1 Naomi had a kinsman on her husband's side, wel -to-do and of Elimelech's clan. His name was Boaz.	1 Or il marito di lei Elimelech avea un parente, uomo potente e di grandi ricchezze, per nome Booz.
2 Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, 'Let me go into the fields and glean ears of corn in the footsteps ofsome man who will look on me with favour.' She replied, 'Go, daughter.'	2 E Ruth di Moab disse alla suocera: Se tu mel comandi, andrò alla campagna, e raccoglierò le spighe che scapperanno alle mani de' mietitori, dovunque troverò grazia presso alcun padre di famiglia, che usi bontà con me. E quella risposele: Va, figliuola mia.
3 So she set out and went to glean in the fields behind the reapers. Chance led her to a plot of landbelonging to Boaz of Elimelech's clan.	3 Ella adunque andò, e raccoglieva le spighe andando dietro a' mietitori. Or egli avvenne, che il padrone di quel campo era colui che chiarivasi Booz, il quale era della famiglia di Elimelech.
4 Boaz, as it happened, had just come from Bethlehem. 'Yahweh be with you!' he said to the reapers.'Yahweh bless you!' they replied.	4 Ed ecco che egli venne da Bethlehem, e disse a' mietitori: II Signore sia con voi. Ed essi gli risposero: II Signore ti benedica.
5 Boaz said to a servant of his who was in charge of the reapers, 'To whom does this young womanbelong?'	5 E disse Booz al giovane che soprantendeva a' mietitori: Di chi è questa fanciulla?
6 And the servant in charge of the reapers replied, 'The girl is the Moabitess, the one who came back withNaomi from the Plains of Moab.	6 E quegli rispose: Questa è la Moabitide, che è venuta con Noemi dal paese di Moab;
7 She said, "Please let me glean and pick up what fal s from the sheaves behind the reapers." Thus shecame, and here she stayed, with hardly a rest from morning until now.'	7 E ha domandato in grazia di raccogliere le spighe che restavano andando dietro alle pedate de' mietitori: e dal mattino sino a quest'ora se ne sta nel campo, e non se n' è andata a casa neppure un momento.
8 Boaz said to Ruth, 'Listen to me, daughter. You must not go gleaning in any other field. You must not goaway from here. Stay close to my work-women.	8 E Booz disse a Ruth: Senti, figliuola non andare in altro campo a raccogliere, e non partire da questo luogo; ma stà insieme colle mie figlie,
9 Keep your eyes on whatever part of the field they are reaping and fol ow behind. I have forbidden mymen to molest you. And if you are thirsty, go to the pitchers and drink what the servants have drawn.'	9 E va lor dietro, dove avranno mietuto: perocché io ho ordinato a’ miei servi che nissuno ti dia fastidio: e di più se avrai sete, va dove sono i vasi, e bevi dell'acqua, di cui beve anche la mia gente.
10 Ruth fel on her face, prostrated herself and said, 'How have I attracted your favour, for you to noticeme, who am only a foreigner?'	10 Ed ella inchinandosi fino a terra colla sua faccia gli fece riverenza, e disse: E donde a me questo, che io abbia trovato grazia dinanzi a’ tuoi occhi, e che tu ti degni di far conto di me donna straniera?
11 Boaz replied, 'I have been told al about the way you have behaved to your mother-in-law since yourhusband's death, and how you left your own father and mother and the land where you were born to come to apeople of whom you previously knew nothing.	11 Egli le rispose: Mi è stato raccontato tutto quello che hai fatto in verso la tua suocera dopo la morte di tuo marito: e come hai abbandonati i tuoi parenti, e il paese, dove nascesti, e sei venuta in un popolo, cui tu prima non conoscevi.
12 May Yahweh repay you for what you have done, and may you be richly rewarded by Yahweh, the Godof Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge!'	12 Il Signore renda mercede alle opere tue, e ti rimuneri con pienezza il Signore Dio d' Israele, a cui se' ricorsa, e sotto le ali del quale ti sei rifuggita.
13 She said, 'My lord, I hope you wil always look on me with favour! You have comforted and encouragedme, though I am not even the equal of one of your work-women.'	13 Ed ella disse: Io ho trovato grazia dinanzi agli occhi tuoi, o signor mio, che mi hai consolata, e hai parlato al cuore di me tua serva che non son da paragonare con una di tue ancelle.
14 When it was time to eat, Boaz said to her, 'Come and eat some of this bread and dip your piece in thevinegar.' Ruth sat down beside the reapers and Boaz made a heap of roasted grain for her; she ate til herhunger was satisfied, and she had some left over.	14 E Booz le disse: Quando sarà l'ora di mangiare, vieni qua, e mangia del pane, e intingi i tuoi bocconi nell’aceto. Ed ella si pose a sedere accanto a' mietitori, ed ei le diede in copia della polenta, ed ella mangiò, e si satollò, e ne mise a parte gli avanzi.
15 When she had got up to glean, Boaz gave orders to his work-people, 'Let her glean among thesheaves themselves. Do not molest her.	15 E di poi si alzò per raccorre le spighe secondo il solito. Ma Booz ordinò, e disse ai suoi servi: Quand'anche ella volesse mietere con voi, lasciatela fare:
16 And be sure you pull a few ears of corn out of the bundles and drop them. Let her glean them, and donot scold her.'	16 E gettate ancora per terra apposta delle spighe dei vostri manipoli, e lasciate che vi restino, affinchè ella non abbia rossore a raccorle, e nissuno la riprenda, mentre le raccorrà.
17 So she gleaned in the field till evening. Then she beat out what she had gleaned and it came to abouta bushel of barley.	17 Ella adunque spigolò nel campo fino alla sera: e battendo con un bastone, e scuotendo quello che avea raccolto, trovò all’incirca un ephi di orzo, cioè tre misure.
18 Taking it with her, she went back to the town. Her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. Ruth alsotook out what she had kept after eating al she wanted, and gave that to her.	18 E portandole seco tornò alla città, e le fece vedere alla suocera: e oltre a questo mise fuori, e le offerse la porzione del cibo che l’era avanzata dopo essersi saziata.
19 Her mother-in-law said, 'Where have you been gleaning today? Where have you been working?Blessed be the man who took notice of you!' Ruth told her mother-in-law in whose field she had been working.'The name of the man with whom I have been working today', she said, 'is Boaz.'	19 E la suocera dissele: Dove se' stata oggi a raccogliere, e a lavorare? sia benedetto colui che ha avuto misericordia di te. Ed ella le disse presso di chi avesse lavorato, e le disse il nome di quell’uomo, e come chiamavasi Booz.
20 Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, 'May he be blessed by Yahweh who does not withhold his faithfullove from living or dead! This man', Naomi added, 'is a close relation of ours. He is one of those who have theright of redemption over us.'	20 Rispose Noemi: Sia egli benedetto dal Signore, dappoiché l’amore che ha avuto pei vivi, lo serba anche pei morti. E soggiunse: Quest'uomo è nostro parente.
21 Ruth the Moabitess said to her mother-in-law, 'He also said, "Stay with my work-people until they havefinished my whole harvest." '	21 E Ruth disse: Egli ha ancora ordinato che io vada co' suoi mietitori per fino a tanto che sia finita tutta la messe.
22 Naomi said to Ruth, her daughter-in-law, 'It is better for you, daughter, to go with his work-women thanto go to some other field where you might be il -treated.'	22 Dissele la suocera: E’ meglio, figliuola mia, che tu vada a mietere colle figlie di lui, affinchè andando al campo d'un altro non ti sia dato fastidio da qualcheduno.
23 So she stayed with Boaz's work-women, and gleaned until the barley and wheat harvests werefinished. And she went on living with her mother-in-law.	23 Ella adunque andò colle fanciulle di Booz, e continuò a raccorre fino a tanto che l'orzo, e il frumento furono riposti ne' granai.
