NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 Naomi had a kinsman on her husband's side, wel -to-do and of Elimelech's clan. His name was Boaz.	1 Du côté de son mari, Noémi avait un parent qui s’appelait Booz; c’était un homme respecté qui était du même clan qu’Élimélek.
2 Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, 'Let me go into the fields and glean ears of corn in the footsteps ofsome man who will look on me with favour.' She replied, 'Go, daughter.'	2 Ruth la Moabite dit à Noémi: “Laisse-moi aller dans les champs glaner des épis derrière quelqu’un qui ne me fera pas d’histoire.” Elle lui répondit: “Va, ma fille.”
3 So she set out and went to glean in the fields behind the reapers. Chance led her to a plot of landbelonging to Boaz of Elimelech's clan.	3 Ruth partit donc et s’en alla glaner dans les champs, derrière les moissonneurs. Par bonheur, elle arriva dans une pièce de terre appartenant à Booz, du clan d’Élimélek.
4 Boaz, as it happened, had just come from Bethlehem. 'Yahweh be with you!' he said to the reapers.'Yahweh bless you!' they replied.	4 Or Booz arrivait de Bethléem: “Que Yahvé soit avec vous!” dit-il aux moissonneurs, et ils lui répondirent: “Que Yahvé te bénisse.”
5 Boaz said to a servant of his who was in charge of the reapers, 'To whom does this young womanbelong?'	5 Booz demanda alors à celui de ses serviteurs qui commandait les moissonneurs: “À qui est cette jeune femme?”
6 And the servant in charge of the reapers replied, 'The girl is the Moabitess, the one who came back withNaomi from the Plains of Moab.	6 Le serviteur qui commandait les moissonneurs répondit: “Cette jeune femme est la Moabite, celle qui est revenue des champs de Moab avec Noémi.
7 She said, "Please let me glean and pick up what fal s from the sheaves behind the reapers." Thus shecame, and here she stayed, with hardly a rest from morning until now.'	7 Elle m’a dit: Permets-moi de glaner et de ramasser ce qui tombe des gerbes derrière les moissonneurs. Elle est donc venue et elle est restée là; depuis le matin jusqu’à présent elle s’est à peine arrêtée.”
8 Boaz said to Ruth, 'Listen to me, daughter. You must not go gleaning in any other field. You must not goaway from here. Stay close to my work-women.	8 Booz dit à Ruth: “Écoute-moi ma fille: ne va pas glaner dans un autre champ, ne t’éloigne pas d’ici mais attache-toi à mes servantes.
9 Keep your eyes on whatever part of the field they are reaping and fol ow behind. I have forbidden mymen to molest you. And if you are thirsty, go to the pitchers and drink what the servants have drawn.'	9 Regarde le champ qu’on moissonne et suis-les. Sache bien que j’ai défendu aux serviteurs de te frapper. Si tu as soif, va boire aux cruches l’eau qu’ils auront puisée.”
10 Ruth fel on her face, prostrated herself and said, 'How have I attracted your favour, for you to noticeme, who am only a foreigner?'	10 Alors Ruth se prosterna la face contre terre et lui dit: “Qu’ai-je donc fait pour que tu me regardes avec bonté et que tu t’intéresses à moi qui ne suis qu’une étrangère?”
11 Boaz replied, 'I have been told al about the way you have behaved to your mother-in-law since yourhusband's death, and how you left your own father and mother and the land where you were born to come to apeople of whom you previously knew nothing.	11 Booz lui répondit: “On m’a rapporté tout ce que tu as fait pour ta belle-mère après la mort de ton mari. On m’a dit comment tu as quitté ton père, ta mère et ton pays natal, pour te rendre dans un peuple que tu ne connaissais pas, ni d’hier, ni d’avant-hier.
12 May Yahweh repay you for what you have done, and may you be richly rewarded by Yahweh, the Godof Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge!'	12 Que Yahvé te rende aujourd’hui ce que tu as fait et que tu obtiennes une bonne récompense de la part de Yahvé, le Dieu d’Israël, puisque tu es venue t’abriter sous ses ailes.”
13 She said, 'My lord, I hope you wil always look on me with favour! You have comforted and encouragedme, though I am not even the equal of one of your work-women.'	13 Elle lui dit: “Je voudrais bien mériter ta bonté, mon seigneur. Tu m’as consolée et tu as parlé au cœur de ta servante, alors que je ne suis même pas comme l’une de tes servantes.”
14 When it was time to eat, Boaz said to her, 'Come and eat some of this bread and dip your piece in thevinegar.' Ruth sat down beside the reapers and Boaz made a heap of roasted grain for her; she ate til herhunger was satisfied, and she had some left over.	14 Au moment du repas Booz lui dit: “Approche un peu, mange de ce pain et trempe ton morceau dans le vinaigre.” Elle s’assit donc à côté des moissonneurs et Booz lui mit un tas de grains rôtis devant elle. Elle mangea à sa faim et emporta le reste.
15 When she had got up to glean, Boaz gave orders to his work-people, 'Let her glean among thesheaves themselves. Do not molest her.	15 Ensuite elle se leva de nouveau pour glaner. Booz donna cet ordre à ses serviteurs: “Qu’elle glane même entre les gerbes, ne la tourmentez pas.
16 And be sure you pull a few ears of corn out of the bundles and drop them. Let her glean them, and donot scold her.'	16 Ayez même soin de tirer vous-mêmes quelques épis de vos gerbes. Vous les laisserez tomber pour qu’elle les ramasse et vous ne crierez pas sur elle.”
17 So she gleaned in the field till evening. Then she beat out what she had gleaned and it came to abouta bushel of barley.	17 Ruth glana ainsi dans le champ jusqu’au soir et lorsqu’elle eut battu ce qu’elle avait ramassé, il y avait environ une mesure d’orge.
18 Taking it with her, she went back to the town. Her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. Ruth alsotook out what she had kept after eating al she wanted, and gave that to her.	18 Elle l’emporta, rentra à la ville, et sa belle-mère vit ce qu’elle avait ramassé. Elle tira même ce qu’elle avait mis en réserve de son repas, et le lui donna.
19 Her mother-in-law said, 'Where have you been gleaning today? Where have you been working?Blessed be the man who took notice of you!' Ruth told her mother-in-law in whose field she had been working.'The name of the man with whom I have been working today', she said, 'is Boaz.'	19 “Où as-tu glané aujourd’hui? lui dit sa belle-mère, dans quel champ as-tu ramassé? Béni soit celui qui s’est intéressé à toi!” Ruth apprit à sa belle-mère chez qui elle avait travaillé. Elle lui dit: “L’homme chez qui j’ai travaillé aujourd’hui s’appelle Booz.”
20 Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, 'May he be blessed by Yahweh who does not withhold his faithfullove from living or dead! This man', Naomi added, 'is a close relation of ours. He is one of those who have theright of redemption over us.'	20 Noémi dit alors à sa belle-fille: “Qu’il soit béni de Yahvé, qui ne cesse de montrer sa bonté envers les vivants et envers les morts!” Et Noémi ajouta: “Cet homme est notre proche parent, il est l’un de ceux qui ont sur nous un droit de rachat.”
21 Ruth the Moabitess said to her mother-in-law, 'He also said, "Stay with my work-people until they havefinished my whole harvest." '	21 Ruth la Moabite dit alors à sa belle-mère: “Il m’a dit encore: Reste avec mes serviteurs jusqu’à ce qu’ils aient terminé toute la moisson.”
22 Naomi said to Ruth, her daughter-in-law, 'It is better for you, daughter, to go with his work-women thanto go to some other field where you might be il -treated.'	22 Noémi dit à Ruth, sa belle-fille: “C’est une bonne chose ma fille que tu restes avec ses servantes, car dans un autre champ on risquerait de te maltraiter.”
23 So she stayed with Boaz's work-women, and gleaned until the barley and wheat harvests werefinished. And she went on living with her mother-in-law.	23 Elle resta donc au milieu des servantes de Booz pour glaner jusqu’à la fin de la moisson des orges et de la moisson des blés; elle habitait avec sa belle-mère.
