NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) got up very early, as did al the people who were with him; he pitched camp at En-Harod; the camp of Midian was north of his, under the Hill of Moreh in the val ey.	1 A la mañana siguiente, Ierubaal –es decir, Gedeón– se levantó de madrugada con la gente que lo acompañaba, y acamparon en En Jarod. Madián habías acampado más al norte, al pie de la colina de Moré, sobre el valle.
2 Yahweh then said to Gideon, 'There are too many people with you for me to put Midian into their power;Israel might claim the credit for themselves at my expense: they might say, "My own hand has rescued me."	2 Entonces el Señor dijo a Gedeón: «La gente que te acompaña es demasiado numerosa para que ponga a Madián en sus manos. No quiero que Israel se gloríe a expensas mías, diciendo: «Es mi mano la que me salvó».
3 So now make this proclamation to the people, "Anyone trembling with fear is to go back and watch fromMount Gilboa." ' Twenty-two thousand of the people went back, and ten thousand remained.	3 Por eso, proclama a oídos del pueblo: «El que tenga miedo o tiemble, que se vuelva». Así Gedeón los puso a prueba, y veintidós mil hombres se volvieron, quedando sólo diez mil.
4 Yahweh said to Gideon, 'There are stil too many people. Take them down to the waterside and I shalsort them out for you there. If I say of someone, "He is to go with you," that man is to go with you. And if I say of anyone, "He is not to go with you," that man is not to go.'	4 Luego el Señor dijo a Gedeón: «Hay todavía demasiada gente; ordénales que bajen hasta el borde del agua, y allí te los pondré a prueba. Irán contigo solamente los que yo te indique; los otros no te acompañarán».
5 So Gideon took the people down to the waterside, and Yahweh said to him, 'Al those who lap the waterwith their tongues, as a dog laps, put these on one side. And al those who kneel down to drink, put these on theother side.'	5 Gedeón hizo que la gente bajara hasta el agua, y el Señor le dijo: «A todos los que beban con la lengua, como lamen los perros, los pondrás a un lado; y a todos los que se arrodillen para beber, los pondrás del otro».
6 The number of those who lapped with their hands to their mouth was three hundred; al the rest of thepeople had knelt to drink.	6 Los que lamieron el agua llevándosela a la boca, fueron trescientos; el resto de la tropa, en cambio, se arrodilló para beber.
7 Yahweh then said to Gideon, 'With the three hundred who lapped the water, I shal rescue you and putMidian into your power. Let the people as a whole disperse to their homes.'	7 El Señor dijo a Gedeón: «Yo los voy a salvar con estos trescientos hombres y pondré a Madián en tus manos. Que el grueso de la tropa regrese cada uno a su casa».
8 So they took the people's provisions and their horns, and then Gideon sent al the Israelites back to theirtents, keeping only the three hundred. The camp of Midian was below his in the val ey.	8 Los trescientos hombres recogieron los cántaros de toda la tropa, y también sus trompetas, mientras Gedeón despedía a los otros israelitas, quedándose sólo con esos trescientos. El campamento de Madián estaba en el valle, debajo del suyo.
9 Now it happened, that same night, that Yahweh said to him, 'Get up and go down to the camp. I amputting it into your power.	9 Aquella noche, el Señor dijo a Gedeón: «Baja ahora mismo contra el campamento de Madián, porque lo he puesto en tus manos.
10 If, however, you are nervous about going down, go down to the camp with your servant Purah;	10 Si tienes miedo de atacar, baja tú primero con tu servidor Purá
11 listen to what they are saying, and that wil encourage you to go down to the camp.' So, with hisservant Purah, he went down to the edge of the outposts of the camp.	11 y escucha lo que dicen. Así tendrás valor y atacarás el campamento». Gedeón bajó acompañado de Purá, su servidor, hasta el extremo del campamento, donde estaban los puestos de guardia.
12 Midian, Amalek and al the sons of the East were deployed in the val ey as thick as locusts; theircamels were as innumerable as the sand on the seashore.	12 Madián, Amalec y todos los Orientales que habían irrumpido en el valle eran numerosos como langostas, y sus camellos eran incontables, como la arena de la playa.
13 Gideon got there just as a man was tel ing his comrade a dream; he was saying, 'This was the dream Ihad: a cake made of barley bread came rolling into the camp of Midian; it came to a tent, struck against it andturned it upside down.'	13 Cuando llegó Gedeón, oyó que un hombre le estaba contando un sueño a su compañero. «Tuve un sueño, le decía; vi que una galleta de cebada venía rodando por el campamento de Madián. Al llegar a una carpa, chocó contra ella y la volteó, de manera que la carpa cayó por tierra».
14 His comrade replied, 'This can only be the sword of Gideon son of Joash the Israelite. God has putMidian and the whole camp into his power.'	14 Su compañero le respondió: «Esto no significa otra cosa que la espada de Gedeón, hijo de Joás, el hombre de Israel. Dios ha puesto en sus manos a Madián y todo su campamento».
15 When Gideon heard the dream thus told and interpreted, he bowed in reverence; he then went back tothe camp of Israel and said, 'On your feet, for Yahweh has put the camp of Midian into your power!'	15 Cuando Gedeón oyó el relato del sueño y su interpretación, se postró para adorar. Luego regresó al campamento de Israel, y dijo: «¡Arriba! El Señor ha puesto en manos de ustedes el campamento de Madián».
16 Gideon then divided his three hundred men into three groups. To each he gave a horn and an emptypitcher, with a torch inside each pitcher.	16 Gedeón dividió a los trescientos hombres en tres cuerpos, y distribuyó entre ellos trompetas y cántaros vacíos, con antorchas dentro de los cántaros.
17 He said to them, 'Watch me, and do as I do. When I reach the edge of the camp, whatever I do, youmust do also.	17 Después dijo: «Fíjense bien en lo que yo hago, y hagan ustedes lo mismo. Cuando llegue al extremo del campamento, hagan lo mismo que yo.
18 I shal blow my horn, and so wil all those who are with me; you too will then blow your horns al roundthe camp and shout, "For Yahweh and for Gideon!"	18 Yo y todos mis compañeros tocaremos las trompetas; entonces también ustedes tocarán las trompetas alrededor del campamento y gritarán: ¡Por el Señor y por Gedeón!».
19 Gideon and his hundred companions reached the edge of the camp at the beginning of the middlewatch, when the new sentries had just been posted; they blew their horns and smashed the pitchers in theirhands.	19 Gedeón y los cien hombres que lo acompañaban llegaron al extremo del campamento al comienzo de la guardia de la medianoche. Cuando se acababa de hacer el relevo de los centinelas, ellos tocaron las trompetas y rompieron los cántaros que llevaban en la mano.
20 The three groups blew their horns and smashed their pitchers; with their left hands they grasped thetorches, with their right hands the horns for blowing them; and they shouted, 'The sword for Yahweh and forGideon!'	20 Los tres cuerpos de la tropa hicieron lo mismo. Tenían las antorchas en la mano izquierda, y con la derecha tocaban las trompetas. Y todos gritaban: «¡Por el Señor y por Gedeón!».
21 And they stood stil , spaced out round the camp. The whole camp was thrown into confusion and theMidianites fled, shouting.	21 Cada uno permanecía quieto en su respectivo lugar, alrededor del campamento. Entonces se despertó todo el campamento, y se dieron a la fuga lanzando alaridos.
22 While the three hundred blew their horns, Yahweh made each man turn his sword against his comradethroughout the entire camp. They al fled as far as Beth-ha-Shittah in the direction of Zarethan, as far as thebank of Abel-Meholah opposite Tabbath.	22 Mientras los trescientos hombres tocaban las trompetas, el Señor hizo que en todo el campamento volvieran la espada unos contra otros. La tropa huyó hasta Bet Sitá, hacia Sartán, hasta la orilla de Abel Mejolá, frente a Tabat.
23 The men of Israel mustered from Naphtali, Asher and all Manasseh, and pursued Midian.	23 Entonces se reunieron los hombres de Israel, procedentes de Neftalí, de Aser y de Todo Manasés, y persiguieron a Madián.
24 Gideon sent messengers throughout the highlands of Ephraim to say, 'Come down to meet Midian,seize the water-points ahead of them as far as Beth-Barah and the Jordan.' Al the men of Ephraim musteredand seized the water-points as far as Beth-Barah and the Jordan.	24 Gedeón envió mensajeros por toda la montaña de Efraím, para que dijeran: «Bajen al encuentro de Madián y ocupen antes que ellos los vados hasta Bet Bará y el Jordán». Los hombres de Efraím se reunieron y ocuparon los vados hasta Bet Bará y el Jordán.
25 They captured the two Midianite chieftains, Oreb and Zeeb; they killed Oreb at Oreb's Rock and Zeebat Zeeb's Winepress. They pursued Midian; and they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on theother side of the Jordan.	25 Así tomaron prisioneros a los dos jefes madianitas, Oreb y Zeeb. Luego de perseguir a Madián, presentaron a Gedeón, que estaba al otro lado del Jordán, las cabezas de Oreb y Zeeb.
