1 From James, servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. Greetings to the twelve tribes of theDispersion.	1 Giacomo, servo di Dio e del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo, alle dodici tribù che sono nella dispersione, salute. Bisogna soffrir con gioia.
2 My brothers, consider it a great joy when trials of many kinds come upon you,	2 Abbiate, o fratelli, come argomento di vera gioia le varie tentazioni nelle quali urterete,
3 for you wel know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance, and	3 sapendo che la prova della vostra fede produce la pazienza.
4 perseverance must complete its work so that you wil become ful y developed, complete, not deficient inany way.	4 La pazienza poi fa l'opera perfetta e fa che voi siate perfetti, completi, senza deficenze di sorta.
5 Any of you who lacks wisdom must ask God, who gives to al generously and without scolding; it wil begiven.	5 Se alcuno di voi ha bisogno di sapienza, la chieda a Dio, che dà a tutti con abbondanza, senza mai rinfacciare, e gli sarà concessa.
6 But the prayer must be made with faith, and no trace of doubt, because a person who has doubts is likethe waves thrown up in the sea by the buffeting of the wind.	6 Ma chieda con fede, senza esitare, perchè chi esita è simile al flutto del mare mosso e agitato dal vento.
7 That sort of person, in two minds,	7 Un tal uomo non s'aspetti d'ottener qualche cosa dal Signore,
8 inconsistent in every activity, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.	8 se è d'animo doppio, se è incostante in tutte le sue cose.
9 It is right that the brother in humble circumstances should glory in being lifted up,	9 Or il fratello che è in umile condizione si glorii del suo innalzamento;
10 and the rich in being brought low. For the rich wil last no longer than the wild flower;	10 il ricco invece della sua umiliazione, perchè passerà come fior d'erba.
11 the scorching sun comes up, and the grass withers, its flower falls, its beauty is lost. It is the samewith the rich: in the middle of a busy life, the rich wil wither.	11 Si levò il sole colla vampa, e l'erba seccò e il suo fiore cadde, e sparì la sua bella apparenza; cosi anche il ricco appassirà nelle sue vie.
12 Blessed is anyone who perseveres when trials come. Such a person is of proven worth and will winthe prize of life, the crown that the Lord has promised to those who love him.	12 Beato l'uomo che soffre tentazioni, perchè, quando sarà stato provato, riceverà la corona di vita da Dio promessa a quelli che lo amano.
13 Never, when you are being put to the test, say, 'God is tempting me'; God cannot be tempted by evil,and he does not put anybody to the test .	13 Nessuno, quando è tentato, dica d'esser tentato da Dio, perche Dio non può tentare a fare il male, anzi egli non tenta nessuno;
14 Everyone is put to the test by being attracted and seduced by that person's own wrong desire.	14 ma ciascuno è tentato, attratto, adescato dalla propria concupiscenza,
15 Then the desire conceives and gives birth to sin, and when sin reaches ful growth, it gives birth todeath.	15 la quale poi, avendo concepito, partorisce il peccato, e il peccato, consumato che sia, genera la morte.
16 Make no mistake about this, my dear brothers:	16 Non vogliate dunque ingan­narvi, fratelli miei dilettissimi:
17 al that is good, al that is perfect, is given us from above; it comes down from the Father of al light;with him there is no such thing as alteration, no shadow caused by change.	17 ogni ottima cosa ricevuta, ogni dono perfetto viene dall'alto e scende dal Padre dei lumi, nel quale non v'è variazione, nè ombra di mutamento.
18 By his own choice he gave birth to us by the message of the truth so that we should be a sort of first-fruits of all his creation.	18 Egli ci ha di sua volontà generati colla parola di verità, affinchè noi siamo quali primizie delle sue creature.
19 Remember this, my dear brothers: everyone should be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow tohuman anger;	19 Voi lo sapete, o fratelli miei dilettissimi: ogni uomo deve essere pronto ad ascoltare, lento a parlare, lento all'ira;
20 God's saving justice is never served by human anger;	20 perchè l'ira dell'uomo non fa adempire la giustizia di Dio.
21 so do away with al impurities and remnants of evil. Humbly welcome the Word which has beenplanted in you and can save your souls.	21 Sbarazzandovi quindi di ogni immondezza e d'ogni resto di malizia, abbracciate con mansuetudine la parola deposta in voi, la quale può salvare le anime vostre.
22 But you must do what the Word tel s you and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves.	22 E mettetela in pratica questa parola; non l'ascoltate soltanto, ingannando voi stessi;
23 Anyone who listens to the Word and takes no action is like someone who looks at his own features ina mirror and,	23 perchè, se uno ascolta la parola e non la mette in pratica, è simile ad un uomo che considera il nativo suo volto in uno specchio e,
24 once he has seen what he looks like, goes off and immediately forgets it.	24 appena s'è mirato, se ne va e dimentica subito qual fosse.
25 But anyone who looks steadily at the perfect law of freedom and keeps to it -- not listening andforgetting, but putting it into practice -- will be blessed in every undertaking.	25 Chi invece fisserà con attenzione lo sguardo nella legge perfetta di libertà e persevererà in essa, non come chi ascolta e dimentica, ma come chi mette in pratica, egli sarà beato nel suo operare.
26 Nobody who fails to keep a tight rein on the tongue can claim to be religious; this is mere self-deception; that person's religion is worthless.	26 Se uno crede di essere religioso senza frenare la propria lingua, seduce il proprio cuore, e la sua religione è vana.
27 Pure, unspoilt religion, in the eyes of God our Father, is this: coming to the help of orphans andwidows in their hardships, and keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world.	27 La religione pura e immacolata nel cospetto di Dio e Padre è questa: visitare gli orfani e le vedove nelle loro tribolazioni, conservarsi puro da questo mondo.
