James 1

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 From James, servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. Greetings to the twelve tribes of theDispersion.	1 Jacques, serviteur de Dieu et du Seigneur Jésus Christ, aux douze tribus de la Dispersion, salut!
2 My brothers, consider it a great joy when trials of many kinds come upon you,	2 Tenez pour une joie suprême, mes frères, d'être en butte à toutes sortes d'épreuves.
3 for you wel know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance, and	3 Vous le savez: bien éprouvée, votre foi produit la constance;
4 perseverance must complete its work so that you wil become ful y developed, complete, not deficient inany way.	4 mais que la constance s'accompagne d'une oeuvre parfaite, afin que vous soyez parfaits,irréprochables, ne laissant rien à désirer.
5 Any of you who lacks wisdom must ask God, who gives to al generously and without scolding; it wil begiven.	5 Si l'un de vous manque de sagesse, qu'il la demande à Dieu - il donne à tous généreusement, sansrécriminer - et elle lui sera donnée.
6 But the prayer must be made with faith, and no trace of doubt, because a person who has doubts is likethe waves thrown up in the sea by the buffeting of the wind.	6 Mais qu'il demande avec foi, sans hésitation, car celui qui hésite ressemble au flot de la mer que levent soulève et agite.
7 That sort of person, in two minds,	7 Qu'il ne s'imagine pas, cet homme-là, recevoir quoi que ce soit du Seigneur:
8 inconsistent in every activity, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.	8 homme à l'âme partagée, inconstant dans toutes ses voies!
9 It is right that the brother in humble circumstances should glory in being lifted up,	9 Que le frère d'humble condition se glorifie de son exaltation
10 and the rich in being brought low. For the rich wil last no longer than the wild flower;	10 et le riche de son humiliation, car il passera comme fleur d'herbe.
11 the scorching sun comes up, and the grass withers, its flower falls, its beauty is lost. It is the samewith the rich: in the middle of a busy life, the rich wil wither.	11 Le soleil brûlant s'est levé: il a desséché l'herbe et sa fleur tombe, sa belle apparence est détruite.Ainsi se flétrira le riche dans ses démarches!
12 Blessed is anyone who perseveres when trials come. Such a person is of proven worth and will winthe prize of life, the crown that the Lord has promised to those who love him.	12 Heureux homme, celui qui supporte l'épreuve! Sa valeur une fois reconnue, il recevra la couronnede vie que le Seigneur a promise à ceux qui l'aiment.
13 Never, when you are being put to the test, say, 'God is tempting me'; God cannot be tempted by evil,and he does not put anybody to the test .	13 Que nul, s'il est éprouvé, ne dise: "C'est Dieu qui m'éprouve." Dieu en effet n'éprouve pas le mal, iln'éprouve non plus personne.
14 Everyone is put to the test by being attracted and seduced by that person's own wrong desire.	14 Mais chacun est éprouvé par sa propre convoitise qui l'attire et le leurre.
15 Then the desire conceives and gives birth to sin, and when sin reaches ful growth, it gives birth todeath.	15 Puis la convoitise, ayant conçu, donne naissance au péché, et le péché, parvenu à son terme,enfante la mort.
16 Make no mistake about this, my dear brothers:	16 Ne vous égarez pas, mes frères bien-aimés:
17 al that is good, al that is perfect, is given us from above; it comes down from the Father of al light;with him there is no such thing as alteration, no shadow caused by change.	17 tout don excellent, toute donation parfaite vient d'en haut et descend du Père des lumières, chez quin'existe aucun changement, ni l'ombre d'une variation.
18 By his own choice he gave birth to us by the message of the truth so that we should be a sort of first-fruits of all his creation.	18 Il a voulu nous enfanter par une parole de vérité, pour que nous soyons comme les prémices de sescréatures.
19 Remember this, my dear brothers: everyone should be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow tohuman anger;	19 Sachez-le, mes frères bien-aimés: que chacun soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, lent à la colère;
20 God's saving justice is never served by human anger;	20 car la colère de l'homme n'accomplit pas la justice de Dieu.
21 so do away with al impurities and remnants of evil. Humbly welcome the Word which has beenplanted in you and can save your souls.	21 Rejetez donc toute malpropreté, tout reste de malice, et recevez avec docilité la Parole qui a étéimplantée en vous et qui peut sauver vos âmes.
22 But you must do what the Word tel s you and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves.	22 Mettez la Parole en pratique. Ne soyez pas seulement des auditeurs qui s'abusent eux-mêmes!
23 Anyone who listens to the Word and takes no action is like someone who looks at his own features ina mirror and,	23 Qui écoute la Parole sans la mettre en pratique ressemble à un homme qui observe sa physionomiedans un miroir.
24 once he has seen what he looks like, goes off and immediately forgets it.	24 Il s'observe, part, et oublie comment il était.
25 But anyone who looks steadily at the perfect law of freedom and keeps to it -- not listening andforgetting, but putting it into practice -- will be blessed in every undertaking.	25 Celui, au contraire, qui se penche sur la Loi parfaite de liberté et s'y tient attaché, non pas enauditeur oublieux, mais pour la mettre activement en pratique, celui-là trouve son bonheur en la pratiquant.
26 Nobody who fails to keep a tight rein on the tongue can claim to be religious; this is mere self-deception; that person's religion is worthless.	26 Si quelqu'un s'imagine être religieux sans mettre un frein à sa langue et trompe son propre coeur,sa religion est vaine.
27 Pure, unspoilt religion, in the eyes of God our Father, is this: coming to the help of orphans andwidows in their hardships, and keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world.	27 La religion pure et sans tache devant Dieu notre Père consiste en ceci: visiter les orphelins et lesveuves dans leurs épreuves, se garder de toute souillure du monde.
