NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 From James, servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. Greetings to the twelve tribes of theDispersion.	1 Santiago, servidor de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, saluda a las doce tribus de la Dispersión.
2 My brothers, consider it a great joy when trials of many kinds come upon you,	2 Hermanos, alégrense profundamente cuando se vean sometidos a cualquier clase de pruebas,
3 for you wel know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance, and	3 sabiendo que la fe, al ser probada, produce la paciencia.
4 perseverance must complete its work so that you wil become ful y developed, complete, not deficient inany way.	4 Y la paciencia debe ir acompañada de obras perfectas, a fin de que ustedes lleguen a la perfección y a la madurez, sin que les falte nada.
5 Any of you who lacks wisdom must ask God, who gives to al generously and without scolding; it wil begiven.	5 Si a alguno de ustedes le falta sabiduría, que la pida a Dios, y la recibirá, porque él la da a todos generosamente, sin exigir nada en cambio.
6 But the prayer must be made with faith, and no trace of doubt, because a person who has doubts is likethe waves thrown up in the sea by the buffeting of the wind.	6 Pero que pida con fe, sin vacilar, porque el que vacila se parece a las olas del mar levantadas y agitadas por el viento.
7 That sort of person, in two minds,	7 El que es así no espere recibir nada del Señor,
8 inconsistent in every activity, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.	8 ya que es un hombre interiormente dividido e inconstante en su manera de proceder.
9 It is right that the brother in humble circumstances should glory in being lifted up,	9 Que el hermano de condición humilde se gloríe cuando es exaltado,
10 and the rich in being brought low. For the rich wil last no longer than the wild flower;	10 y el rico se alegre cuando es humillado, porque pasará como una flor del campo:
11 the scorching sun comes up, and the grass withers, its flower falls, its beauty is lost. It is the samewith the rich: in the middle of a busy life, the rich wil wither.	11 apenas sale el sol y calienta con fuerza, la hierba se seca, su flor se marchita y desaparece su hermosura. Lo mismo sucederá con el rico en sus empresas.
12 Blessed is anyone who perseveres when trials come. Such a person is of proven worth and will winthe prize of life, the crown that the Lord has promised to those who love him.	12 Feliz el hombre que soporta la prueba, porque después de haberla superado, recibirá la corona de Vida que el Señor prometió a los que lo aman.
13 Never, when you are being put to the test, say, 'God is tempting me'; God cannot be tempted by evil,and he does not put anybody to the test .	13 Nadie, al ser tentado, diga que Dios lo tienta: Dios no puede ser tentado por el mal, ni tienta a nadie,
14 Everyone is put to the test by being attracted and seduced by that person's own wrong desire.	14 sino que cada uno es tentado por su propia concupiscencia, que lo atrae y lo seduce.
15 Then the desire conceives and gives birth to sin, and when sin reaches ful growth, it gives birth todeath.	15 La concupiscencia es madre del pecado, y este, una vez cometido, engendra la muerte.
16 Make no mistake about this, my dear brothers:	16 No se engañen, queridos hermanos.
17 al that is good, al that is perfect, is given us from above; it comes down from the Father of al light;with him there is no such thing as alteration, no shadow caused by change.	17 Todo lo que es bueno y perfecto es un don de lo alto y desciende del Padre de los astros luminosos, en quien no hay cambio ni sombra de declinación.
18 By his own choice he gave birth to us by the message of the truth so that we should be a sort of first-fruits of all his creation.	18 El ha querido engendrarnos por su Palabra de verdad, para que seamos como las primicias de su creación.
19 Remember this, my dear brothers: everyone should be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow tohuman anger;	19 Tengan bien presente, hermanos muy queridos, que debemos estar dispuestos a escuchar y ser lentos para hablar y para enojarnos.
20 God's saving justice is never served by human anger;	20 La ira del hombre nunca realiza la justicia de Dios.
21 so do away with al impurities and remnants of evil. Humbly welcome the Word which has beenplanted in you and can save your souls.	21 Dejen de lado, entonces, toda impureza y todo resto de maldad, y reciban con docilidad la Palabra sembrada en ustedes, que es capaz de salvarlos.
22 But you must do what the Word tel s you and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves.	22 Pongan en práctica la Palabra y no se contenten sólo con oírla, de manera que se engañen a ustedes mismos.
23 Anyone who listens to the Word and takes no action is like someone who looks at his own features ina mirror and,	23 El que oye la Palabra y no la practica, se parece a un hombre que se mira en el espejo,
24 once he has seen what he looks like, goes off and immediately forgets it.	24 pero en seguida se va y se olvida de cómo es.
25 But anyone who looks steadily at the perfect law of freedom and keeps to it -- not listening andforgetting, but putting it into practice -- will be blessed in every undertaking.	25 En cambio, el que considera atentamente la Ley perfecta, que nos hace libres, y se aficiona a ella, no como un oyente distraído, sino como un verdadero cumplidor de la Ley, será feliz al practicarla.
26 Nobody who fails to keep a tight rein on the tongue can claim to be religious; this is mere self-deception; that person's religion is worthless.	26 Si alguien cree que es un hombre religioso, pero no domina su lengua, se engaña a sí mismo y su religiosidad es vacía.
27 Pure, unspoilt religion, in the eyes of God our Father, is this: coming to the help of orphans andwidows in their hardships, and keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world.	27 La religiosidad pura y sin mancha delante de Dios, nuestro Padre, consiste en ocuparse de los huérfanos y de las viudas cuando están necesitados, y en no contaminarse con el mundo.
