1 From James, servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. Greetings to the twelve tribes of theDispersion.	1 Giacomo servo di Dio, e del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo, alle dodici tribù disperse, salute.
2 My brothers, consider it a great joy when trials of many kinds come upon you,	2 Abbiate, fratelli miei come argomento di vero gaudio le varie tentazioni, nelle quali urterete:
3 for you wel know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance, and	3 Sapendo, come Io sperimento della vostra fede produce la pazienza.
4 perseverance must complete its work so that you wil become ful y developed, complete, not deficient inany way.	4 La pazienza poi fa opera perfetta: onde voi siate perfetti, e intieri, e in nulla cosa manchevoli.
5 Any of you who lacks wisdom must ask God, who gives to al generously and without scolding; it wil begiven.	5 Che se alcuno di voi è bisognoso di sapienza, la chieda a Dio, che da a tutti abbondantemente, e noi rimprovera: esaragli conceduta.
6 But the prayer must be made with faith, and no trace of doubt, because a person who has doubts is likethe waves thrown up in the sea by the buffeting of the wind.	6 Ma chieda con fede senza niente esitare: imperocché chi esita, egli è simile al flutto del mare mosso, e agitato dal vento:
7 That sort of person, in two minds,	7 Non si pensi adunque un tal uomo di ottener cosa alcuna dal Signore.
8 inconsistent in every activity, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.	8 L'uomo di animo doppio egli è incostante in tutti i suoi andamenti.
9 It is right that the brother in humble circumstances should glory in being lifted up,	9 Or il fratello, che è in basso stato, faccia gloria del suo innalzamento:
10 and the rich in being brought low. For the rich wil last no longer than the wild flower;	10 Il ricco poi della sua umiliazione, perché come fior d'erba ci passerà:
11 the scorching sun comes up, and the grass withers, its flower falls, its beauty is lost. It is the samewith the rich: in the middle of a busy life, the rich wil wither.	11 Imperocché si levò il sole cocente, e l'erba si seccò, e il fior ne cadde, e la venustà dell'aspetto di lui perì: cosi anche il ricco ne' suoi avanzamenti appassirà.
12 Blessed is anyone who perseveres when trials come. Such a person is of proven worth and will winthe prize of life, the crown that the Lord has promised to those who love him.	12 Beato l'uomo, che tollera tentazione: perché quando sarà stato provato, riceverà la corona di vita promessa da Dio a quegli, che lo amano.
13 Never, when you are being put to the test, say, 'God is tempting me'; God cannot be tempted by evil,and he does not put anybody to the test .	13 Nissuno quand'è tentato, dica, che è tentato da Dio: imperocché Dio non è tentatore di cose male: ed ei non tenta nissuno.
14 Everyone is put to the test by being attracted and seduced by that person's own wrong desire.	14 Ma ciascuno è tentato dalla propria concupiscenza, che lo tragge, e lo alletta.
15 Then the desire conceives and gives birth to sin, and when sin reaches ful growth, it gives birth todeath.	15 Indi la concupiscenza quando ha conceputo, partorisce il peccato: il peccato poi consumato che sia, genera la morte.
16 Make no mistake about this, my dear brothers:	16 Non vogliate adunque ingannarvi, fratelli miei dilettissimi.
17 al that is good, al that is perfect, is given us from above; it comes down from the Father of al light;with him there is no such thing as alteration, no shadow caused by change.	17 Ogni buon dato, e ogni perfetto dono viene di sopra, scendendo da quel Padre de' lumi, in cui non è mutamento, né alternativa di adombramento.
18 By his own choice he gave birth to us by the message of the truth so that we should be a sort of first-fruits of all his creation.	18 Imperocché egli per sua volontà ci generò per la partita di verità: affinchè noi siamo quali primizie delle sue creature.
19 Remember this, my dear brothers: everyone should be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow tohuman anger;	19 Voi lo sapete, fratelli miei dilettissimi. Or sia ogni uomo pronto ad ascoltare; lento a parlare, e lento all'ira:
20 God's saving justice is never served by human anger;	20 Imperocché l'ira dell'uomo non adempie la giustizia di Dio.
21 so do away with al impurities and remnants of evil. Humbly welcome the Word which has beenplanted in you and can save your souls.	21 Per la qual cosa rigettando ogni immondezza, e la ridondante malizia, con mansueto animo abbracciate la parola (in voi) innestata, la quale può salvare le anime vostre.
22 But you must do what the Word tel s you and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves.	22 Siate perciò facitori della parola, e non uditori solamente, ingannando voi stessi.
23 Anyone who listens to the Word and takes no action is like someone who looks at his own features ina mirror and,	23 Imperocché se uno è uditore, e non facitore della parola, ei si rassomiglierà a un uomo, che considera il nativo suo volto ad uno specchio:
24 once he has seen what he looks like, goes off and immediately forgets it.	24 Il quale considerato che si è, se ne va, e si scorda subita, qual ei si fosse.
25 But anyone who looks steadily at the perfect law of freedom and keeps to it -- not listening andforgetting, but putting it into practice -- will be blessed in every undertaking.	25 Ma chi mirerà addentro nella perfetta legge della libertà, e in essa persevererà, non essendo uditore smemorato, ma facitore di opere: questi nel suo fare sarà beato.
26 Nobody who fails to keep a tight rein on the tongue can claim to be religious; this is mere self-deception; that person's religion is worthless.	26 Che se uno si crede di essere religioso, senza raffrenare la propria lingua, anzi seducendo il proprio cuore, la religione di costui è vana.
27 Pure, unspoilt religion, in the eyes of God our Father, is this: coming to the help of orphans andwidows in their hardships, and keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world.	27 Religione para, e immacolata nel cospetto di Dio, e del Padre, è questa: di visitare i pupilli, e le vedove nella loro tribolazione, e di conservarsi puro da questo secolo.
