1 Timothy 4

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 The Spirit has explicitly said that during the last times some wil desert the faith and pay attention todeceitful spirits and doctrines that come from devils,	1 L'Esprit dit expressément que, dans les derniers temps, certains renieront la foi pour s'attacherà des esprits trompeurs et à des doctrines diaboliques,
2 seduced by the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are branded as though with a red-hot iron:	2 séduits par des menteurs hypocrites marqués au fer rouge dans leur conscience:
3 they forbid marriage and prohibit foods which God created to be accepted with thanksgiving by all whobelieve and who know the truth.	3 ces gens-là interdisent le mariage et l'usage d'aliments que Dieu a créés pour être pris avecaction de grâces par les croyants et ceux qui ont la connaissance de la vérité.
4 Everything God has created is good, and no food is to be rejected, provided it is received withthanksgiving:	4 Car tout ce que Dieu a créé est bon et aucun aliment n'est à proscrire, si on le prend avecaction de grâces:
5 the word of God and prayer make it holy.	5 la parole de Dieu et la prière le sanctifient.
6 If you put al this to the brothers, you wil be a good servant of Christ Jesus and show that you havereal y digested the teaching of the faith and the good doctrine which you have always fol owed.	6 Si tu exposes cela aux frères, tu seras un bon serviteur du Christ Jésus, nourri desenseignements de la foi et de la bonne doctrine dont tu t'es toujours montré le disciple fidèle.
7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales. Train yourself for religion.	7 Quant aux fables profanes, racontars de vieilles femmes, rejette-les. Exerce-toi à la piété.
8 Physical exercise is useful enough, but the usefulness of religion is unlimited, since it holds out promiseboth for life here and now and for the life to come;	8 Les exercices corporels, eux, ne servent pas à grand-chose: la piété au contraire est utile àtout, car elle a la promesse de la vie, de la vie présente comme de la vie future.
9 that is a saying that you can rely on and nobody should doubt it.	9 Elle est sûre cette parole et digne d'une entière créance.
10 I mean that the point of al our toiling and battling is that we have put our trust in the living God and heis the Saviour of the whole human race but particularly of al believers.	10 Si en effet nous peinons et combattons, c'est que nous avons mis notre espérance dans leDieu vivant, le Sauveur de tous les hommes, des croyants surtout.
11 This is what you are to instruct and teach.	11 Tel doit être l'objet de tes prescriptions et de ton enseignement.
12 Let no one disregard you because you are young, but be an example to al the believers in the way youspeak and behave, and in your love, your faith and your purity.	12 Que personne ne méprise ton jeune âge. Au contraire, montre-toi un modèle pour lescroyants, par la parole, la conduite, la charité, la foi, la pureté.
13 Until I arrive, devote yourself to reading to the people, encouraging and teaching.	13 En attendant que je vienne, consacre-toi à la lecture, à l'exhortation, à l'enseignement.
14 You have in you a spiritual gift which was given to you when the prophets spoke and the body of elderslaid their hands on you; do not neglect it.	14 Ne néglige pas le don spirituel qui est en toi, qui t'a été conféré par une interventionprophétique accompagnée de l'imposition des mains du collège des presbytres.
15 Let this be your care and your occupation, and everyone wil be able to see your progress.	15 Prends cela à coeur. Sois-y tout entier, afin que tes progrès soient manifestes à tous.
16 Be conscientious about what you do and what you teach; persevere in this, and in this way you wilsave both yourself and those who listen to you.	16 Veille sur ta personne et sur ton enseignement; persévère en ces dispositions. Agissant ainsi,tu te sauveras, toi et ceux qui t'écoutent.
