NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
Paulus et Silvanus et Timo theus ecclesiae Thessalonicen sium in Deo Patre nostro et Domino Iesu Christo:
Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.2 gratia vobis et pax a Deo Patre nostro et Domino Iesu Christo.
We must always thank God for you, brothers; quite rightly, because your faith is growing so wonderfullyand the mutual love that each one of you has for al never stops increasing.3 Gratias agere debemus Deo semper pro vobis, fratres, sicut dignum est, quoniam supercrescit fides vestra, et abundat caritas uniuscuiusque omnium vestrum in invicem,
Among the churches of God we take special pride in you for your perseverance and faith under al thepersecutions and hardships you have to bear.4 ita ut et nos ipsi in vobis gloriemur in ecclesiis Dei pro patientia vestra et fide in omnibus persecutionibus vestris et tribulationibus, quas sustinetis,
It al shows that God's judgement is just, so that you may be found worthy of the kingdom of God; it isfor the sake of this that you are suffering now.5 indicium iusti iudicii Dei, ut digni habeamini regno Dei, pro quo et patimini;
For God's justice wil surely mean hardship being inflicted on those who are now inflicting hardship onyou,6 si quidem iustum est apud Deum retribuere tribulationem his, qui vos tribulant,
and for you who are now suffering hardship, relief with us, when the Lord Jesus appears from heavenwith the angels of his power.7 et vobis, qui tribulamini, requiem nobiscum in revelatione Domini Iesu de caelo cum angelis virtutis eius,
He wil come amid flaming fire; he wil impose a penalty on those who do not acknowledge God andrefuse to accept the gospel of our Lord Jesus.8 in igne flammae, dantis vindictam his, qui non noverunt Deum et qui non oboediunt evangelio Domini nostri Iesu;
Their punishment is to be lost eternal y, excluded from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his strength9 qui poenas dabunt interitu aeterno a facie Domini et a gloria virtutis eius,
on that day when he comes to be glorified among his holy ones and marvelled at by al who believe inhim; and you are among those who believed our witness.10 cum venerit glorificari in sanctis suis et admirabilis fieri in omnibus, qui crediderunt; quia creditum est testimonium nostrum super vos in die illo.
In view of this we also pray continual y that our God wil make you worthy of his cal , and by his powerfulfil all your desires for goodness, and complete al that you have been doing through faith;11 Ad quod etiam oramus semper pro vobis, ut dignetur vos vocatione sua Deus noster et impleat omnem voluntatem bonitatis et opus fidei in virtute;
so that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you and you in him, by the grace of ourGod and the Lord Jesus Christ.12 ut glorificetur nomen Domini nostri Iesu Christi in vobis, et vos in illo, secundum gratiam Dei nostri et Domini Iesu Christi.
