Joshua 18

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The whole community of the Israelites assembled at Shiloh, and the Tent of Meeting was set up there;the whole country had been subdued for them.	1 Si riunì quindi tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele in Silo, dove eressero la tenda del convegno. La terra che stava dinanzi a loro era stata sottomessa.
2 But among the Israelites there were still seven tribes left who had not received their heritage.	2 Erano però rimaste, tra i figli d'Israele, sette tribù che non avevano ricevuto la loro porzione.
3 Joshua then said to the Israelites, 'How much more time are you going to waste before you go andtake possession of the country which Yahweh, God of your ancestors, has given to you?	3 Disse perciò Giosuè ai figli d'Israele: "Fino a quando sarete voi così negligenti nell'andare ad occupare la terra che il Signore, Dio dei padri vostri, vi ha dato?
4 Choose three men from each tribe for me to send al over the country so that they can make a surveywith a view to their inheritances and then come back to me.	4 Sceglietevi tre uomini per tribù e io li invierò a esplorare e descrivere il paese in vista della spartizione e poi torneranno da me.
5 They wil divide the country into seven portions. Judah wil remain in his territory in the south, andthose of the House of Joseph wil remain in their territory in the north.	5 Lo divideranno in sette parti; Giuda resterà nella sua porzione a sud e quelli della casa di Giuseppe resteranno nei loro confini a nord.
6 You must survey the country in seven sections and bring your findings to me here, so that I can castlots for you here, in the presence of Yahweh our God.	6 Voi farete la descrizione del paese in sette parti e me la porterete qui, in modo che io possa tirarvele a sorte, qui davanti al Signore, nostro Dio.
7 The Levites, however, wil have no portion with the rest of you; the priesthood of Yahweh wil be theirheritage. As regards Gad and Reuben and the half-tribe of Manasseh, they have received their heritage on thefurther, eastern side of the Jordan, the one given them by Moses, servant of Yahweh.'	7 I leviti infatti non devono avere parti in mezzo a voi, essendo il sacerdozio del Signore la loro eredità; e Gad e Ruben e metà della tribù di Manasse hanno avuto la loro porzione al di là del Giordano ad oriente, data loro da Mosè, servo del Signore".
8 The men stood up and set off. To those who were to survey the country Joshua gave this order, 'Startout, then, go al over the country, survey it, and then come back to me; and I shal cast lots for you here, in thepresence of Yahweh, at Shiloh.'	8 Si levarono allora e partirono quegli uomini, dopo che Giosuè aveva dato quest'ordine agli esploratori per la descrizione del paese: "Andate e percorrete la terra, descrivetela e poi tornate da me e qui io ve la sorteggerò davanti al Signore, in Silo".
9 The men left, went al over the country and surveyed it by towns, in seven sections, writing down theirfindings in a book, and then went back to Joshua in the camp at Shiloh.	9 Quegli uomini andarono, attraversarono la regione e ne descrissero in un libro le città in sette suddivisioni. Poi ritornarono da Giosuè nell'accampamento di Silo.
10 Joshua cast lots for them in Yahweh's presence at Shiloh, and there Joshua divided the countrybetween the Israelites, share by share.	10 Giosuè tirò per essi le sorti in Silo davanti al Signore e ivi distribuì la terra ai figli d'Israele, secondo le loro divisioni.
11 A portion fell first to the tribe of the sons of Benjamin, by clans: the territory of their portion laybetween the sons of Judah and the sons of Joseph.	11 Fu fatto il sorteggio per la tribù dei figli di Beniamino secondo le loro famiglie: il confine delle parti loro sorteggiate fu tra i figli di Giuda e i figli di Giuseppe.
12 Their northern frontier began at the Jordan, went up the flank of Jericho to the north, climbedwestwards through the highlands and came out at the desert of Beth-Aven.	12 Il loro confine dal lato settentrionale partiva dal Giordano, saliva per il pendio settentrionale di Gerico, saliva sulla montagna verso ovest e terminava al deserto di Bet-Aven.
13 Thence, the frontier went on to Luz, on the southern flank of Luz -- now Bethel-and then down toAtaroth-Arach, on the mountain south of Lower Beth-Horon.	13 Di lì il confine passava a Luza, sul pendio di Luza a sud, che oggi è Betel; poi scendeva ad Atarot-Addar, sul monte che sta a sud di Bet-Oron inferiore.
14 At this westerly point, the frontier curved round and turned south, from the mountain facing Beth-Horon from the south and came out at Kiriath-Baal, now Kiriath-Jearim, a town of the sons of Judah. That wasthe western side.	14 Poi il confine piegava, girando sul lato occidentale, verso sud, dal monte che è dinanzi a Bet-Oron, verso sud, per terminare a Kiriat-Iearim, città dei figli di Giuda. Questo il lato ovest.
15 This was the south side: from the tip of Kiriath-Jearim, the frontier went to Gasin and came out nearthe spring of the Waters of Nephtoah,	15 Il lato sud partiva dall'estremità di Kiriat-Iearim e, continuando il confine ovest, terminava alla sorgente di Neftoach;
16 it then went down to the edge of the mountain facing the Val ey of Hinnom, in the Valley of theRephaim to the north; it then went down into the Val ey of Hinnom, past the southerly flank of the Jebusite, andwent down to En-Rogel.	16 poi il limite scendeva all'estremità del monte che è dinanzi alla valle di Ben-Innom, che è nella valle dei Refaim, dal lato nord, e discendeva per la valle di Innom, sul pendio meridionale dei Gebusei, fino a En-Roghel;
17 It then curved northwards, coming out at En-Shemesh, and came out at the stone circle opposite theAscent of Adummim, then went down to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.	17 piegava poi a nord per uscire ad En-Semes e usciva nelle curve che sono davanti alla salita di Adummim, per discendere al sasso di Bocan, figlio di Ruben.
18 It then went on to Cheteph on the flank of Beth-ha-Arabah northwards, and went down into theArabah;	18 Passava sulle pendici di fronte all'Araba a nord e discendeva verso l'Araba.
19 the frontier then passed round the northern flank of Beth-Hoglah, and the frontier came out at thenorthern bay of the Salt Sea, at the southern end of the Jordan. Such was the southern frontier.	19 Poi il confine continuava sul fianco nord di Bet-Cogla e terminava sulla baia del Mar Morto a nord, all'estremità meridionale del Giordano: questo era il confine meridionale.
20 The Jordan itself formed the frontier on the east. Such was the heritage of the sons of Benjamin asdefined by their frontier, by clans.	20 Il Giordano era il suo confine dalla parte orientale. 22 Jericho, Beth-Hoglah, Emek-Keziz;	22 Bet-Araba, Zemaraim, Betel,

24 Chephar-Ammoni, Ophni, Geba: twelve towns and their vil ages.	24 Chefar-Ammonai, Ofni e Gheba: dodici città e i loro villaggi;
25 Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth;	25 Gabaon, Rama, Beerot,
26 Mizpeh, Chephirah, Mozah;	26 Mizpe, Chefira, Mosa,
27 Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah;	27 Rekem, Irpeel, Tareala,
28 Zela-ha-Eleph, the Jebusite -- that is, Jerusalem -- Gibeah and Kiriath: fourteen towns with theirvil ages. Such was the heritage of the sons of Benjamin, by clans.	28 Zela-Elef, Iebus, cioè Gerusalemme, Gabaa, Kiriat-Iearim: quattordici città e i loro villaggi. Questa fu la parte sorteggiata per la tribù di Beniamino secondo le loro famiglie.
