1 When we had at last torn ourselves away from them and put to sea, we set a straight course andarrived at Cos; the next day we reached Rhodes, and from there went on to Patara.	1 І розлучившися з ними, ми попливли простою дорогою і прибули на Кос, а другого дня на Родос, звідси ж — у Патару.
2 Here we found a ship bound for Phoenicia, so we went on board and sailed in her.	2 Найнявши корабель, що плив у Фінікію, ми сіли і попливли.
3 After sighting Cyprus and leaving it to port, we sailed to Syria and put in at Tyre, since the ship was tounload her cargo there.	3 Коли виринув перед нами Кіпр, ми лишили його ліворуч і попливли в Сирію та й пристали до Тиру, бо там мав корабель скинути вантаж.
4 We sought out the disciples and stayed there a week. Speaking in the Spirit, they kept tel ing Paul notto go on to Jerusalem,	4 А знайшовши учнів, ми перебули там сім день. Вони під впливом Духа говорили Павлові не йти в Єрусалим.
5 but when our time was up we set off. Together with the women and children they all escorted us on ourway til we were out of the town. When we reached the beach, we knelt down and prayed;	5 Коли скінчились нам дні побуту, ми вирушили, і як ми йшли, то нас проводжали всі з жінками і дітьми аж за місто. На березі ми стали на коліна і помолилися.
6 then, after saying good -- bye to each other, we went aboard and they returned home.	6 Потім поцілували ми одні одних на прощання і сіли на корабель; вони ж вернулися додому.
7 The end of our voyage from Tyre came when we landed at Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothersand stayed one day with them.	7 А ми, скінчивши плавбу, прибули з Тиру у Птолемаїду і, привітавши братів, перебули в них один день.
8 The next day we left and came to Caesarea. Here we cal ed on Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven,and stayed with him.	8 На другий день ми далі вибралися у дорогу і, прибувши в Кесарію, увійшли в дім Филипа євангелиста, одного з сімох, і зосталися в нього.
9 He had four unmarried daughters who were prophets.	9 Було ж у нього четверо дочок-дівчат, які пророкували.
10 When we had been there several days a prophet called Agabus arrived from Judaea.	10 І коли ми більше днів перебули, якийсь пророк, Агав на ім’я, прибув з Юдеї.
11 He came up to us, took Paul's belt and tied up his own feet and hands, and said, 'This is what theHoly Spirit says, "The man to whom this girdle belongs wil be tied up like this by the Jews in Jerusalem andhanded over to the gentiles." '	11 Він прийшов до нас і, взявши пояс Павла, зв’язав собі руки й ноги та й мовив: «Святий Дух каже це: Отак юдеї зв’яжуть В Єрусалимі того чоловіка, що йому належить цей пояс, і видадуть в руки поган.»
12 When we heard this, we and al the local people urged Paul not to go on to Jerusalem.	12 Коли ми це почули, заходилися просити, ми й тамошні, щоб він не йшов до Єрусалиму.
13 To this he replied, 'What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For my part, I am ready notonly to be bound but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.'	13 Тоді Павло озвався: «Що ви робите, плачучи і надриваючи моє серце? Таж я готовий не тільки бути зв’язаний, але й життя своє покласти в Єрусалимі за ім’я Господа Ісуса.»
14 And so, as he would not be persuaded, we gave up the attempt, saying, 'The Lord's wil be done.'	14 Коли ж годі було його переконати, ми погодилися, кажучи: «Нехай буде воля Господня.»
15 After this we made our preparations and went on up to Jerusalem.	15 А по цих днях, узявши клунки, ми пустилися в Єрусалим.
16 Some of the disciples from Caesarea accompanied us and took us to the house of a Cypriot withwhom we were to lodge; he was cal ed Mnason and had been one of the earliest disciples.	16 Учні з Кесарії теж пішли з нами і привели нас до якогось Мнасона з Кіпру, старого учня, в якого ми мали оселитися.
17 On our arrival in Jerusalem the brothers gave us a very warm welcome.	17 Коли ми прибули в Єрусалим брати радо нас прийняли.
18 The next day Paul went with us to visit James, and all the elders were present.	18 На другий день Павло пішов з нами до Якова, де й усі старші зібрались.
19 After greeting them he gave a detailed account of al that God had done among the gentiles throughhis ministry.	19 І, привітавши їх, він розповів їм докладно те, що Бог учинив поміж поганами завдяки його службі.
20 They gave glory to God when they heard this. Then they said, 'You see, brother, how thousands ofJews have now become believers, al of them staunch upholders of the Law;	20 А вони, послухавши, прославляли Бога і сказали йому: «Бачиш, брате, скільки тисяч є між юдеями, що увірували, і всі вони ревнителі закону.
21 and what they have heard about you is that you instruct al Jews living among the gentiles to breakaway from Moses, authorising them not to circumcise their children or to fol ow the customary practices.	21 Та вони про тебе чули, що ти всіх юдеїв поміж поганами навчаєш відступства від Мойсея, говорячи, щоб не обрізували дітей і не дотримувались звичаїв.
22 What is to be done? A crowd is sure to gather, for they wil hear that you have come.	22 Що ж, отже? Люди, певно, збіжаться, бо почують, що ти прибув.
23 So this is what we suggest that you should do; we have four men here who are under a vow;	23 Зроби, отже, що ми тобі порадимо. Є тут у нас чотири чоловіки, що зв’язані обітом.
24 take these men along and be purified with them and pay al the expenses connected with the shavingof their heads. This wil let everyone know there is no truth in the reports they have heard about you, and thatyou too observe the Law by your way of life.	24 Візьми їх, очисться з ними і заплати за них, щоб вони обстригли собі голови, і всі взнають, що це неправда, що вони про тебе чули, а, навпаки, ти також тримаєшся закону.
25 About the gentiles who have become believers, we have written giving them our decision that theymust abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from il icitmarriages.'	25 Відносно ж поган, які увірували, то ми послали те, що ухвалили: берегтись ідоложертвенного м’яса, крови, задушеного м’яса та розпусти.»
26 So the next day Paul took the men along and was purified with them, and he visited the Temple togive notice of the time when the period of purification would be over and the offering would have to be presentedon behalf of each of them.	26 Тоді Павло, взявши тих чоловіків, на другий день очистився з ними, ввійшов у храм й об’явив реченець, за якого, по сповненні днів очищення, за кожного з них мала бути принесена офіра.
27 The seven days were nearly over when some Jews from Asia caught sight of him in the Temple andstirred up the crowd and seized him,	27 Якже тих сім день добігало до кінця, юдеї з Азії, побачивши Павла у храмі, збунтували ввесь натовп і наклали на нього руки,
28 shouting, 'Men of Israel, help! This is the man who preaches to everyone everywhere against ourpeople, against the Law and against this place. He has even profaned this Holy Place by bringing Greeks intothe Temple.'	28 гукаючи: «Мужі ізраїльські, на поміч! Ось той, що всіх навчає всюди проти нашого народу, проти закону й проти цього місця! Та мало того: він увів у храм греків і опоганив це святе місце!»
29 They had, in fact, previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him and thought that Paulhad brought him into the Temple.	29 Бо бачили перед тим у місті разом з ним Трофима, ефесянина, і гадали, що Павло його впровадив до храму.
30 This roused the whole city; people came running from al sides; they seized Paul and dragged him outof the Temple, and the gates were closed behind them.	30 Тоді заворушилось усе місто, зчинилося збіговисько народу і, схопивши Павла, почали тягнути його з храму й негайно зачинили двері.
31 While they were setting about killing him, word reached the tribune of the cohort that there was tumultal over Jerusalem.	31 А як вони хотіли його вбити, дійшла до тисяцького чоти вістка, що ввесь Єрусалим заметушився.
32 He immediately called out soldiers and centurions and charged down on the crowd, who stoppedbeating Paul when they saw the tribune and the soldiers.	32 Він зараз же з вояками та сотниками бігом на них накинувся; якже ті побачили тисяцького та вояків, перестали Павла бити.
33 When the tribune came up he took Paul into custody, had him bound with two chains and enquiredwho he was and what he had done.	33 Тоді тисяцький, наблизившися до нього, схопив його і звелів зв’язати двома ланцюгами. Потім спитав, хто він такий і що зробив.
34 People in the crowd called out different things, and since the noise made it impossible for him to getany positive information, the tribune ordered Paul to be taken into the fortress.	34 А в натовпі одні одне, другі друге кричали. Не мігши довідатися чогось певного через метушню, він наказав відвести його у твердиню.
35 When Paul reached the steps, the crowd became so violent that he had to be carried by the soldiers;	35 Коли Павло дійшов до сходів, — вояки мусіли його нести з приводу розшалілої юрби;
36 and indeed the whole mob was after them, shouting, 'Do away with him!'	36 народ бо йшов за ним гурмою і кричав: «Геть його!»
37 Just as Paul was being taken into the fortress, he asked the tribune if he could have a word with him.The tribune said, 'You speak Greek, then?	37 І коли саме Павла вводили у твердиню, він сказав до тисяцького: «Чи можна мені щось тобі сказати?» Той озвався: «Вмієш по-грецькому?
38 Aren't you the Egyptian who started the recent revolt and led those four thousand cut-throats out intothe desert?'	38 То ти не той єгиптянин, що цими днями збунтував і вивів у пустиню чотири тисячі опришків?»
39 'I?' said Paul, 'I am a Jew and a citizen of the wel -known city of Tarsus in Cilicia. Please give mepermission to speak to the people.'	39 «Я — відповів Павло- юдей із Тарсу, громадянин міста, що не без слави у Кілікії. Дозволь мені, будь ласка, звернутися до народу.»
40 The man gave his consent and Paul, standing at the top of the steps, raised his hand to the people forsilence. A profound silence fol owed, and he started speaking to them in Hebrew.	40 Коли той дозволив, Павло став на сходах, дав знак рукою до народу, а як настала велика тиша, промовив до них єврейською мовою:
