NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 When we had at last torn ourselves away from them and put to sea, we set a straight course andarrived at Cos; the next day we reached Rhodes, and from there went on to Patara.	1 L’heure du départ est arrivée, et nous nous sommes arrachés à eux. Nous sommes allés droit sur Cos puis, le jour suivant, sur Rhodes, et de là, sur Patara.
2 Here we found a ship bound for Phoenicia, so we went on board and sailed in her.	2 Nous y avons trouvé un bateau en partance pour la Phénicie, nous y sommes montés et le bateau est parti.
3 After sighting Cyprus and leaving it to port, we sailed to Syria and put in at Tyre, since the ship was tounload her cargo there.	3 Nous sommes arrivés en vue de Chypre, nous l’avons laissée sur la gauche et avons fait voile sur la Syrie. Nous avons débarqué à Tyr, car c’était là que le bateau devait décharger sa cargaison.
4 We sought out the disciples and stayed there a week. Speaking in the Spirit, they kept tel ing Paul notto go on to Jerusalem,	4 Nous avons pu retrouver les disciples et nous nous sommes arrêtés sept jours. Ils disaient bien à Paul, sous l’action de l’Esprit, de ne pas monter à Jérusalem,
5 but when our time was up we set off. Together with the women and children they all escorted us on ourway til we were out of the town. When we reached the beach, we knelt down and prayed;	5 mais quand nous nous sommes trouvés à la date du départ, nous sommes partis. Tous nous ont accompagnés avec leurs femmes et leurs enfants pour sortir de la ville. Sur la plage nous nous sommes mis à genoux et nous avons prié.
6 then, after saying good -- bye to each other, we went aboard and they returned home.	6 Après nous être embrassés, nous sommes montés à bord tandis qu’ils retournaient chez eux.
7 The end of our voyage from Tyre came when we landed at Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothersand stayed one day with them.	7 Nous avons achevé la traversée avec cette étape de Tyr à Ptolémaïs. Là nous avons salué les frères et sommes restés un jour chez eux.
8 The next day we left and came to Caesarea. Here we cal ed on Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven,and stayed with him.	8 Le lendemain nous partions et prenions la route de Césarée. Nous y avons été reçus dans la maison de Philippe l’Évangéliste, un des Sept;
9 He had four unmarried daughters who were prophets.	9 il avait quatre filles vierges qui prophétisaient.
10 When we had been there several days a prophet called Agabus arrived from Judaea.	10 Nous étions là depuis quelques jours quand s’est présenté Agabus, un prophète qui arrivait de Judée.
11 He came up to us, took Paul's belt and tied up his own feet and hands, and said, 'This is what theHoly Spirit says, "The man to whom this girdle belongs wil be tied up like this by the Jews in Jerusalem andhanded over to the gentiles." '	11 Reçu chez nous, il a pris la ceinture de Paul avec laquelle il s’est attaché les mains et les pieds, et il a dit: "L’homme à qui appartient cette ceinture, les Juifs de Jérusalem vont le lier juste comme je viens de faire, et ils le remettront aux étrangers.”
12 When we heard this, we and al the local people urged Paul not to go on to Jerusalem.	12 En entendant cela, nous avons insisté auprès de lui, avec tous ceux de là-bas, pour qu’il ne monte pas à Jérusalem.
13 To this he replied, 'What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For my part, I am ready notonly to be bound but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.'	13 Mais Paul a déclaré: "En pleurant ainsi vous ne faites que me déchirer le cœur. Je vous dis que je suis prêt, pour le Nom du Seigneur Jésus, non seulement à me faire arrêter à Jérusalem, mais même à y mourir.”
14 And so, as he would not be persuaded, we gave up the attempt, saying, 'The Lord's wil be done.'	14 Comme il était impossible de le convaincre, nous nous sommes tenus tranquilles, disant: "Que se fasse la volonté du Seigneur”.
15 After this we made our preparations and went on up to Jerusalem.	15 Passés ces quelques jours, nous avons préparé les bagages et sommes repartis pour Jérusalem.
16 Some of the disciples from Caesarea accompanied us and took us to the house of a Cypriot withwhom we were to lodge; he was cal ed Mnason and had been one of the earliest disciples.	16 Des disciples de Césarée y sont montés avec nous et nous ont conduits chez Mnason, un disciple de la première heure, qui était de Chypre. Nous devions loger chez lui.
17 On our arrival in Jerusalem the brothers gave us a very warm welcome.	17 Nous arrivons donc à Jérusalem où nous sommes bien accueillis par les frères et sœurs.
18 The next day Paul went with us to visit James, and all the elders were present.	18 Le lendemain Paul est allé rendre visite à Jacques: nous sommes allés avec lui.
19 After greeting them he gave a detailed account of al that God had done among the gentiles throughhis ministry.	19 Paul les a salués, puis il leur a raconté en détail tout ce que Dieu avait fait dans les contrées païennes grâce à son ministère.
20 They gave glory to God when they heard this. Then they said, 'You see, brother, how thousands ofJews have now become believers, al of them staunch upholders of the Law;	20 Eux, bien sûr, ont rendu grâces à Dieu pour tout ce qu’ils entendaient, mais ensuite ils lui ont dit: "Tu peux voir, frère, que parmi les Juifs les croyants se comptent par dizaines de mille, et tous sont très attachés à la Loi.

22 What is to be done? A crowd is sure to gather, for they wil hear that you have come.	22 Sûrement ils sauront que tu es là: que faire? “Il va falloir réunir une assemblée générale
23 So this is what we suggest that you should do; we have four men here who are under a vow;	23 et toi, tu vas faire comme nous te disons. Nous avons ici quatre hommes qui ont fait un vœu.
24 take these men along and be purified with them and pay al the expenses connected with the shavingof their heads. This wil let everyone know there is no truth in the reports they have heard about you, and thatyou too observe the Law by your way of life.	24 Tu vas les parrainer, tu te sanctifieras avec eux et tu paieras les frais quand ils se feront couper leur chevelure. Comme cela tous sauront qu’il n’y a rien de vrai dans ce qu’on rapporte sur ton compte, mais que toi aussi tu restes fidèle à la Loi.
25 About the gentiles who have become believers, we have written giving them our decision that theymust abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from il icitmarriages.'	25 “Pour ce qui est des croyants d’origine païenne, nous leur avons envoyé des directives, leur demandant de s’abstenir des viandes consacrées aux idoles, du sang et des viandes d’animaux non saignés, et des unions illégitimes.”
26 So the next day Paul took the men along and was purified with them, and he visited the Temple togive notice of the time when the period of purification would be over and the offering would have to be presentedon behalf of each of them.	26 Voilà donc Paul qui parraine les hommes en question. Le lendemain il se sanctifie avec eux et il entre au Temple pour faire savoir la date où s’achèvera leur consécration temporaire et où on offrira pour eux le sacrifice.
27 The seven days were nearly over when some Jews from Asia caught sight of him in the Temple andstirred up the crowd and seized him,	27 La semaine était sur le point de se terminer. C’est alors que des Juifs d’Asie l’ont vu dans le Temple: ils ont ameuté la foule et ils ont mis la main sur lui.
28 shouting, 'Men of Israel, help! This is the man who preaches to everyone everywhere against ourpeople, against the Law and against this place. He has even profaned this Holy Place by bringing Greeks intothe Temple.'	28 Ils criaient: "Israélites, aidez-nous! Voici l’homme qui prêche partout contre le peuple, contre la Loi et contre le Lieu-Saint. Maintenant il est venu profaner le Lieu-Saint, il a fait entrer des Grecs dans l’enceinte du Temple.”
29 They had, in fact, previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him and thought that Paulhad brought him into the Temple.	29 C’est qu’ils avaient prévu que Trophime, un Grec d’Ephèse, serait en ville avec lui, et ils croyaient que Paul l’avait introduit dans le Temple.
30 This roused the whole city; people came running from al sides; they seized Paul and dragged him outof the Temple, and the gates were closed behind them.	30 Du coup, toute la ville s’est agitée. Il y a eu un attroupement. Ceux qui tenaient Paul l’ont emmené vers la sortie et aussitôt on a fermé les portes.
31 While they were setting about killing him, word reached the tribune of the cohort that there was tumultal over Jerusalem.	31 Ils voulaient le tuer, mais déjà on avait fait dire au commandant du bataillon que tout Jérusalem était en émoi.
32 He immediately called out soldiers and centurions and charged down on the crowd, who stoppedbeating Paul when they saw the tribune and the soldiers.	32 Lui, aussitôt, rassemble soldats et centurions, et il fonce sur la foule. Quand les gens voient arriver le commandant et la troupe, ils arrêtent de frapper Paul.
33 When the tribune came up he took Paul into custody, had him bound with two chains and enquiredwho he was and what he had done.	33 Le commandant s’approche, met la main sur Paul et ordonne de lui passer des chaînes. Puis il demande qui il est et ce qu’il a fait.
34 People in the crowd called out different things, and since the noise made it impossible for him to getany positive information, the tribune ordered Paul to be taken into the fortress.	34 Mais dans la foule chacun crie n’importe quoi. Voyant qu’il ne peut rien tirer au clair dans un tel tumulte, le commandant ordonne d’emmener Paul à la forteresse.
35 When Paul reached the steps, the crowd became so violent that he had to be carried by the soldiers;	35 Quand on arrive aux escaliers, les soldats sont obligés de porter Paul tant la foule est excitée:
36 and indeed the whole mob was after them, shouting, 'Do away with him!'	36 tout le peuple est là qui suit en criant: "Faites-le disparaître!”
37 Just as Paul was being taken into the fortress, he asked the tribune if he could have a word with him.The tribune said, 'You speak Greek, then?	37 Au moment de passer la porte de la forteresse, Paul a dit au commandant: "Est-ce que je pourrais te demander quelque chose?” Il a répondu: "Tu parles grec?
38 Aren't you the Egyptian who started the recent revolt and led those four thousand cut-throats out intothe desert?'	38 Tu n’es donc pas l’Égyptien qui s’est révolté il y a quelques jours et qui est parti au désert avec 400 terroristes?”
39 'I?' said Paul, 'I am a Jew and a citizen of the wel -known city of Tarsus in Cilicia. Please give mepermission to speak to the people.'	39 Paul alors lui a dit: "Je suis Juif, mais je suis de Tarse en Cilicie, une ville assez connue. Permets-moi, s’il te plaît, de dire quelque chose à la foule.”
40 The man gave his consent and Paul, standing at the top of the steps, raised his hand to the people forsilence. A profound silence fol owed, and he started speaking to them in Hebrew.	40 Avec l’autorisation du commandant, Paul s’est tenu sur les escaliers et il a fait signe de la main au peuple.
