Acts of the Apostles 21

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 When we had at last torn ourselves away from them and put to sea, we set a straight course andarrived at Cos; the next day we reached Rhodes, and from there went on to Patara.	1 Después de separarnos de ellos, nos embarcamos y fuimos derecho a Cos; al día siguiente, llegamos a Rodas y de allí pasamos a Pátara.
2 Here we found a ship bound for Phoenicia, so we went on board and sailed in her.	2 Como encontramos un barco que iba a Fenicia, subimos a bordo y partimos.
3 After sighting Cyprus and leaving it to port, we sailed to Syria and put in at Tyre, since the ship was tounload her cargo there.	3 Avistamos la isla de Chipre y, dejándola a nuestra izquierda, seguimos navegando en dirección a Siria, hasta que por fin, atracamos en el puerto de Tiro, donde el barco debía descargar.
4 We sought out the disciples and stayed there a week. Speaking in the Spirit, they kept tel ing Paul notto go on to Jerusalem,	4 Allí encontramos a algunos discípulos y permanecimos una semana con ellos. Estos, iluminados por el Espíritu, aconsejaban a Pablo que no subiera a Jerusalén,
5 but when our time was up we set off. Together with the women and children they all escorted us on ourway til we were out of the town. When we reached the beach, we knelt down and prayed;	5 pero llegado el momento de partir, proseguimos nuestro viaje. Todos nos acompañaron hasta las afueras de la ciudad, incluso las mujeres y los niños. En la playa nos arrodillamos para orar,
6 then, after saying good -- bye to each other, we went aboard and they returned home.	6 y habiéndonos despedido, nosotros subimos al barco y ellos se volvieron a sus casas.
7 The end of our voyage from Tyre came when we landed at Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothersand stayed one day with them.	7 De Tiro fuimos a Tolemaida, poniendo así término a la travesía. Allí saludamos a los hermanos y nos detuvimos un día con ellos.
8 The next day we left and came to Caesarea. Here we cal ed on Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven,and stayed with him.	8 Al día siguiente, volvimos a partir y llegamos a Cesarea, donde fuimos a ver a Felipe, el predicador del evangelio, unos de los Siete, y nos alojamos en su casa.
9 He had four unmarried daughters who were prophets.	9 El tenía cuatro hijas solteras que profetizaban.
10 When we had been there several days a prophet called Agabus arrived from Judaea.	10 Permanecimos allí muchos días, y durante nuestra estadía, bajó de Judea un profeta llamado Agabo.
11 He came up to us, took Paul's belt and tied up his own feet and hands, and said, 'This is what theHoly Spirit says, "The man to whom this girdle belongs wil be tied up like this by the Jews in Jerusalem andhanded over to the gentiles." '	11 Este vino a vernos, tomó el cinturón de Pablo, se ató con él los pies y las manos, y dijo: «El Espíritu Santo dice: Así atarán los judíos en Jerusalén al dueño de este cinturón y lo entregarán a los paganos».
12 When we heard this, we and al the local people urged Paul not to go on to Jerusalem.	12 Al oír estas palabras, los hermanos del lugar y nosotros mismos rogamos a Pablo que no subiera a Jerusalén.
13 To this he replied, 'What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For my part, I am ready notonly to be bound but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.'	13 Pablo respondió: «¿Por qué lloran así y destrozan mi corazón? Yo estoy dispuesto, no solamente a dejarme encadenar, sino también a morir en Jerusalén por el nombre del Señor Jesús».
14 And so, as he would not be persuaded, we gave up the attempt, saying, 'The Lord's wil be done.'	14 Y como no conseguíamos persuadirlo, no insistimos más y dijimos: «Que se haga la voluntad del Señor».
15 After this we made our preparations and went on up to Jerusalem.	15 Algunos días después, terminados nuestros preparativos, subimos a Jerusalén.
16 Some of the disciples from Caesarea accompanied us and took us to the house of a Cypriot withwhom we were to lodge; he was cal ed Mnason and had been one of the earliest disciples.	16 Iban con nosotros algunos discípulos de Cesarea, que nos hicieron alojar en casa de un tal Mnasón de Chipre, un discípulo de la primera hora.
17 On our arrival in Jerusalem the brothers gave us a very warm welcome.	17 Cuando llegamos a Jerusalén, los hermanos nos recibieron con alegría.
18 The next day Paul went with us to visit James, and all the elders were present.	18 Al día siguiente, Pablo fue con nosotros a casa de Santiago, donde también se reunieron todos los presbíteros.
19 After greeting them he gave a detailed account of al that God had done among the gentiles throughhis ministry.	19 Después de saludarlos, Pablo expuso detalladamente todo lo que Dios había hecho entre los paganos a través de su ministerio.
20 They gave glory to God when they heard this. Then they said, 'You see, brother, how thousands ofJews have now become believers, al of them staunch upholders of the Law;	20 Ellos alabaron a Dios por lo que acababan de oír, pero le advirtieron: «Tú sabes, hermano, que millares de judíos han abrazado la fe, y que todos ellos son celosos cumplidores de la Ley.
21 and what they have heard about you is that you instruct al Jews living among the gentiles to breakaway from Moses, authorising them not to circumcise their children or to fol ow the customary practices.	21 Ahora bien, ellos han oído decir que con tus enseñanzas apartas de Moisés a todos los judíos que viven entre los paganos, diciéndoles que no circunciden a sus hijos y no sigan más sus costumbres.
22 What is to be done? A crowd is sure to gather, for they wil hear that you have come.	22 ¿Qué haremos entonces? Pronto seguramente se van a enterar de tu llegada.
23 So this is what we suggest that you should do; we have four men here who are under a vow;	23 Tienes que hacer lo que te vamos a decir: Aquí tenemos a cuatro hombres que están obligados por un voto:
24 take these men along and be purified with them and pay al the expenses connected with the shavingof their heads. This wil let everyone know there is no truth in the reports they have heard about you, and thatyou too observe the Law by your way of life.	24 llévalos contigo, purifícate con ellos y paga lo que corresponde para que se hagan cortar el cabello. Así todo el mundo sabrá que no es verdad lo que han oído acerca de ti, sino que tú también eres un fiel cumplidor de la Ley.
25 About the gentiles who have become believers, we have written giving them our decision that theymust abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from il icitmarriages.'	25 En cuanto a los paganos que abrazaron la fe, les hemos enviado nuestras decisiones, a saber: que se abstengan de la carne inmolada a los ídolos, de la sangre, de la carne de animales muertos sin desangrar y de las uniones ilegales».
26 So the next day Paul took the men along and was purified with them, and he visited the Temple togive notice of the time when the period of purification would be over and the offering would have to be presentedon behalf of each of them.	26 Al día siguiente, Pablo tomó consigo a esos hombres, se purificó con ellos y entró en el Templo. Allí hizo saber cuándo concluiría el plazo fijado para la purificación, es decir, cuándo debía ofrecerse la oblación por cada uno de ellos.
27 The seven days were nearly over when some Jews from Asia caught sight of him in the Temple andstirred up the crowd and seized him,	27 Casi al final de los siete días, cuando los judíos venidos de Asia vieron a Pablo en el Templo, amotinaron a la multitud y se apoderaron de él,
28 shouting, 'Men of Israel, help! This is the man who preaches to everyone everywhere against ourpeople, against the Law and against this place. He has even profaned this Holy Place by bringing Greeks intothe Temple.'	28 gritando: «¡Socorro, israelitas! Este es el hombre que predica a todos y en todas partes contra nuestro pueblo, contra la Ley y contra este Templo, y ahora ha llegado a introducir en él a los paganos, profanando este lugar santo».
29 They had, in fact, previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him and thought that Paulhad brought him into the Temple.	29 Decían esto porque antes habían visto con él en la ciudad a Trófimo de Efeso, y creían que Pablo lo había introducido en el Templo.
30 This roused the whole city; people came running from al sides; they seized Paul and dragged him outof the Temple, and the gates were closed behind them.	30 La ciudad entera se alborotó, y de todas partes acudió el pueblo. Se apoderaron de Pablo, lo sacaron fuer del Templo y cerraron inmediatamente las puertas.
31 While they were setting about killing him, word reached the tribune of the cohort that there was tumultal over Jerusalem.	31 Ya iban a matarlo, cuando llegó al tribunal de la cohorte la noticia de que toda Jerusalén estaba convulsionada.
32 He immediately called out soldiers and centurions and charged down on the crowd, who stoppedbeating Paul when they saw the tribune and the soldiers.	32 En seguida el tribuno, con unos soldados y centuriones, se precipitó sobre los manifestantes. Al ver al tribuno y a los soldados, dejaron de golpear a Pablo.
33 When the tribune came up he took Paul into custody, had him bound with two chains and enquiredwho he was and what he had done.	33 El tribuno se acercó, tomó a Pablo y mandó que lo ataran con dos cadenas; después preguntó quién era y qué había hecho.
34 People in the crowd called out different things, and since the noise made it impossible for him to getany positive information, the tribune ordered Paul to be taken into the fortress.	34 Todos gritaban al mismo tiempo, y a causa de la confusión, no pudo sacar nada en limpio. Por eso hizo conducir a Pablo a la fortaleza.
35 When Paul reached the steps, the crowd became so violent that he had to be carried by the soldiers;	35 Al llegar a la escalinata, los soldados tuvieron que alzarlo debido a la violencia de la multitud,
36 and indeed the whole mob was after them, shouting, 'Do away with him!'	36 porque el pueblo en masa lo seguía, gritando: «¡Que lo maten!».
37 Just as Paul was being taken into the fortress, he asked the tribune if he could have a word with him.The tribune said, 'You speak Greek, then?	37 Cuando lo iban a introducir en la fortaleza, Pablo dijo al tribuno: «¿Puedo decirte una palabra?». «¿Tú sabes griego?», le preguntó el tribuno.
38 Aren't you the Egyptian who started the recent revolt and led those four thousand cut-throats out intothe desert?'	38 Entonces, ¿no eres el egipcio que hace unos días provocó un motín y llevó al desierto a cuatro mil terroristas?».
39 'I?' said Paul, 'I am a Jew and a citizen of the wel -known city of Tarsus in Cilicia. Please give mepermission to speak to the people.'	39 «Yo soy judío, dijo Pablo, originario de Tarso, ciudadano de una importante ciudad de Cilicia. Te ruego que me permitas hablar al pueblo».
40 The man gave his consent and Paul, standing at the top of the steps, raised his hand to the people forsilence. A profound silence fol owed, and he started speaking to them in Hebrew.	40 El trino se lo permitió, y Pablo, de pie sobre la escalinata, hizo una señal al pueblo con la mano. Se produjo un gran silencio, y Pablo comenzó a hablarles en hebreo.
