Deuteronomy 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 'When Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are going to make your own,many nations wil fal before you: Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites,seven nations greater and stronger than yourselves.	1 Quando il Signore Dio tuo ti avrà introdotto nella terra ove vai per prenderne il possesso, ed avrà disperso dinanzi a te molte nazioni: l'Eteo, il Gergeseo, l'Amorreo, il Cananeo, il Ferezeo, l'Eveo, il Gebuseo, sette nazioni molto più numerose e più potenti di te;
2 Yahweh your God will put them at your mercy and you will conquer them. You must put them under thecurse of destruction. You must not make any treaty with them or show them any pity.	2 quando il Signore Dio tuo le avrà date in tuo potere, le combatterai fino allo sterminio senza fare alleanza con esse, senza usar misericordia con loro.
3 You must not intermarry with them; you must not give a daughter of yours to a son of theirs, or take adaughter of theirs for a son of yours,	3 Non t'imparenterai con loro: non darai le tue figlie ai loro figli, non prenderai la loro figlia pel tuo figlio;
4 for your son would be seduced from fol owing me into serving other gods; the wrath of Yahweh wouldblaze out against you and he would instantly destroy you.	4 perchè essa con seduzioni indurrà il tuo figlio a lasciar me per servire a dèi stranieri, e allora, divampandone il furore del Signore, ben presto vi sterminerà.
5 Instead, treat them like this: tear down their altars, smash their standing-stones, cut down their sacredpoles and burn their idols.	5 Invece fate loro cosi: demolite i loro altari, spezzate le statue, tagliate i boschetti, date alle fiamme le sculture.
6 For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God; of al the peoples on earth, you have beenchosen by Yahweh your God to be his own people.	6 Essendo tu un popolo consacrato al Signore Dio tuo, il Signore Dio tuo ti ha scelto come un popolo speciale fra tutti i popoli della terra.
7 'Yahweh set his heart on you and chose you not because you were the most numerous of al peoples --for indeed you were the smal est of al -	7 Il Signore si è unito a voi e vi ha eletti, non perchè superate in numero tutte le altre nazioni, essendo voi inferiori di numero a tutti i popoli;
8 but because he loved you and meant to keep the oath which he swore to your ancestors: that was whyYahweh brought you out with his mighty hand and redeemed you from the place of slave-labour, from the powerof Pharaoh king of Egypt.	8 ma perchè vi ha amati ed ha voluto mantenere il giuramento fatto ai vostri padri, per questo vi ha tratti con mano potente, riscattandovi dalla casa di schiavitù, dalla mano di Faraone re d'Egitto.
9 From this you can see that Yahweh your God is the true God, the faithful God who, though he is true tohis covenant and his faithful love for a thousand generations as regards those who love him and keep hiscommandments,	9 Riconosci adunque che il Signore Dio tuo è il Dio forte e fedele che mantiene il patto e la misericordia per mille generazioni con chi lo ama ed osserva i suoi precetti,
10 punishes in their own persons those that hate him. He destroys anyone who hates him, without delay;and it is in their own persons that he punishes them.	10 e rende subito a coloro che l'odiano, sterminandoli senza alcuna dilazione, rende subito quel che hanno meritato.
11 Hence, you must keep and observe the commandments, laws and customs which I am laying downfor you today.	11 Ma tu osserva i precetti, le cerimonie e le ordinazioni che oggi t'ingiungo di praticare.
12 'Listen to these ordinances, be true to them and observe them, and in return Yahweh your God wil betrue to the covenant and love which he promised on oath to your ancestors.	12 Se, udite queste ordinazioni, le manterrai e le metterai in pratica, anche il Signore Dio tuo ti manterrà il patto e la misericordia giurata ai tuoi padri;
13 He wil love you and bless you and increase your numbers; he wil bless the fruit of your body and theproduce of your soil, your corn, your new wine, your oil, the issue of your cattle, the young of your flock, in thecountry which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.	13 e ti amerà, e ti moltiplicherà, e benedirà il frutto del tuo seno, e i frutti della tua terra, il tuo frumento, la tua vendemmia, e l'olio, gli armenti e i greggi delle tue pecore nella terra che egli giurò ai tuoi padri di darti.
14 You wil be the most blessed of al peoples. None of you, man or woman, will be sterile, no male orfemale of your beasts infertile.	14 Sarai benedetto fra tutti i popoli, e non vi sarà presso di te sterilità, in nessuno dei due sessi; nè fra gli uomini, nè fra il bestiame.
15 Yahweh wil deflect al il ness from you; he wil not afflict you with those evil plagues of Egypt whichyou have known, but will inflict them on al who hate you.	15 Il Signore allontanerà da te ogni malattia, ed i terribili morbi d'Egitto che tu ben conosci, non li farà cadere sopra te, ma sopra i tuoi nemici.
16 'So, devour all the peoples whom Yahweh your God puts at your mercy, show them no pity, do notserve their gods: or you wil be ensnared.	16 Tu divorerai tutti i popoli che il Signore Dio tuo sta per dare in tuo potere: non ne abbia pietà il tuo occhio, non servire ai loro dèi, perchè sarebbe la tua rovina.
17 'You may say in your heart, "These nations outnumber me; how shal I be able to dispossess them?"	17 Forse dirai in cuor tuo: Questi popoli son più numerosi di me, e come potrò sterminarli?
18 Do not be afraid of them: remember how Yahweh your God treated Pharaoh and all Egypt,	18 Non li temere; ma ricordati di quello che il Signore Dio tuo ha fatto a Faraone e a tutti gli Egiziani,
19 the great ordeals that you yourselves have seen, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand andoutstretched arm with which Yahweh your God brought you out. This is how Yahweh your God will treat al thepeoples whom you fear to face.	19 ricorda le piaghe grandissime che tu vedesti coi tuoi occhi, i segni, i prodigi, la mano forte e il braccio steso con cui il Signore Dio tuo ti ha tratto fuori: così farà a tutti i popoli di cui hai timore.
20 And what is more, Yahweh your God wil send hornets to destroy those who are left and who hidefrom you.	20 Il Signore Dio tuo manderà inoltre anche i calabroni contro di loro, finché quelli che ti fossero sfuggiti o avessero potuto nascondersi non sian distrutti e sterminati.
21 'Do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is among you, a great and terrible God.	21 Dunque non li temere, perchè il Signore Dio tuo è in mezzo a te, Dio grande e terribile.
22 Little by little, Yahweh your God will clear away these nations before you; you cannot destroy them allat once, or wild animals wil breed and be disastrous for you.	22 Egli stesso distruggerà a poco a poco, ad una ad una, dinanzi a te queste nazioni. Tu non le potrai sterminare ad un tratto, perchè altrimenti le fiere dei boschi si moltiplicherebbero contro di te.
23 But Yahweh your God wil put them at your mercy, and disaster after disaster wil overtake them untilthey are finally destroyed.	23 Il Signore Dio tuo le darà in tuo potere, le farà morire fino a distruggerle del tutto.
24 He wil put their kings at your mercy and you wil blot out their names under heaven; no one wil beable to resist you -- until you have destroyed them al .	24 Egli ti darà nelle mani i loro re: tu farai sparire i loro nomi di sotto il cielo: nessuno potrà resisterti finché tu non li abbia ridotti in polvere.
25 'You must burn the statues of their gods, not coveting the gold and silver that covers them; take it andyou wil be caught in a snare: it is detestable to Yahweh your God.	25 Darai alle fiamme le loro sculture, senza agognare l'argento e l'oro di cui son fatte: nulla prenderai di esse, acciò non ti sia di scandalo, perchè sono abbominazione pel Signore Dio tuo.
26 You must not bring any detestable thing into your house: or you, like it, wil come under the curse ofdestruction. You must regard them as unclean and loathsome, for they are under the curse of destruction.'	26 E dell'idolo nulla porterai in casa tua, per non esser condannato alla distruzione come lui. Lo detesterai come immondezza, l'avrai in abbominazione qual sudiciume e sporcizia perchè è condannato ad esser distrutto.
