Deuteronomy 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 'When Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are going to make your own,many nations wil fal before you: Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites,seven nations greater and stronger than yourselves.	1 Cuando Yahveh tu Dios te haya introducido en la tierra a la que vas a entrar para tomarla en posesión, y haya arrojado delante de ti a naciones numerosas: hititas, guirgasitas, amorreos, cananeos, perizitas, jivitas y jebuseos, siete naciones más numerosas y fuertes que tú,
2 Yahweh your God will put them at your mercy and you will conquer them. You must put them under thecurse of destruction. You must not make any treaty with them or show them any pity.	2 cuando Yahveh tu Dios te las entregue y las derrotes, las consagrarás al anatema. No harás alianza con ellas, no les tendrás compasión.
3 You must not intermarry with them; you must not give a daughter of yours to a son of theirs, or take adaughter of theirs for a son of yours,	3 No emparentarás con ellas, no darás tu hija a su hijo ni tomarás su hija para tu hijo.
4 for your son would be seduced from fol owing me into serving other gods; the wrath of Yahweh wouldblaze out against you and he would instantly destroy you.	4 Porque tu hijo se apartaría de mi seguimiento, serviría o otros dioses; y a la ira de Yahveh se encendería contra vosotros y se apresuraría a destruiros.
5 Instead, treat them like this: tear down their altars, smash their standing-stones, cut down their sacredpoles and burn their idols.	5 Por el contrario, esto es lo que haréis con ellos: demoleréis sus altares, romperéis sus estelas, cortaréis sus cipos y prenderéis fuego a sus ídolos.
6 For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God; of al the peoples on earth, you have beenchosen by Yahweh your God to be his own people.	6 Porque tú eres un pueblo consagrado a Yahveh tu Dios; él te ha elegido a ti para que seas el pueblo de su propiedad personal entre todos los pueblos que hay sobre la haz de la tierra.
7 'Yahweh set his heart on you and chose you not because you were the most numerous of al peoples --for indeed you were the smal est of al -	7 No porque seáis el más numeroso de todos los pueblos se ha prendado Yahveh de vosotros y os ha elegido, pues sois el menos numeroso de todos los pueblos;
8 but because he loved you and meant to keep the oath which he swore to your ancestors: that was whyYahweh brought you out with his mighty hand and redeemed you from the place of slave-labour, from the powerof Pharaoh king of Egypt.	8 sino por el amor que os tiene y por guardar el juramento hecho a vuestros padres, por eso os ha sacado Yahveh con mano fuerte y os ha librado de la casa de servidumbre, del poder de Faraón, rey de Egipto.
9 From this you can see that Yahweh your God is the true God, the faithful God who, though he is true tohis covenant and his faithful love for a thousand generations as regards those who love him and keep hiscommandments,	9 Has de saber, pues, que Yahveh tu Dios es el Dios verdadero, el Dios verdadero, el Dios fiel que guarda la alianza y el amor por mil generaciones a los que le aman y guardan sus mandamientos,
10 punishes in their own persons those that hate him. He destroys anyone who hates him, without delay;and it is in their own persons that he punishes them.	10 pero que da su merecido en su propia persona a quien le odia, destruyéndole. No es remiso con quien le odia: en su propia persona le da su merecido.
11 Hence, you must keep and observe the commandments, laws and customs which I am laying downfor you today.	11 Guarda, pues, los mandamientos, preceptos y normas que yo te mando hoy poner en práctica.
12 'Listen to these ordinances, be true to them and observe them, and in return Yahweh your God wil betrue to the covenant and love which he promised on oath to your ancestors.	12 Y por haber escuchado estas normas, por haberlas guardado y practicado, Yahveh tu Dios te mantendrá la alianza y el amor que bajo juramento prometió a tus pades.
13 He wil love you and bless you and increase your numbers; he wil bless the fruit of your body and theproduce of your soil, your corn, your new wine, your oil, the issue of your cattle, the young of your flock, in thecountry which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.	13 Te amará, te bendecirá, te multiplicará, bendecirá el fruto de tu seno y el fruto de tu suelo, tu trigo, tu mosto, tu aceite, las crías de tus vacas y las camadas de tus rebaños, en el suelo que a tus padres juró que te daría.
14 You wil be the most blessed of al peoples. None of you, man or woman, will be sterile, no male orfemale of your beasts infertile.	14 Serás bendito más que todos los pueblos. No habrá macho ni hembra estéril en ti ni en tus rebaños.
15 Yahweh wil deflect al il ness from you; he wil not afflict you with those evil plagues of Egypt whichyou have known, but will inflict them on al who hate you.	15 Yahveh apartará de ti toda enfermedad; no dejará caer sobre ti nunguna de esas malignas epidemias de Egipto que tú conoces, sino que se las enviará a todos los que te odian.
16 'So, devour all the peoples whom Yahweh your God puts at your mercy, show them no pity, do notserve their gods: or you wil be ensnared.	16 Destruirás, pues, todos esos pueblos que Yahveh tu Dios te entrega, sin que tu ojo tenga piedad de ellos; y no darás culto a sus dioses, porque eso sería un lazo para ti.
17 'You may say in your heart, "These nations outnumber me; how shal I be able to dispossess them?"	17 Acaso digas en tu corazón: «Esas naciones son más numerosas que yo; ¿cómo voy a poder desalojarlas?»
18 Do not be afraid of them: remember how Yahweh your God treated Pharaoh and all Egypt,	18 Pero no las temas: acuérdate bien de lo que Yahveh tu Dios hizo con Faraón y con todo Egipto,
19 the great ordeals that you yourselves have seen, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand andoutstretched arm with which Yahweh your God brought you out. This is how Yahweh your God will treat al thepeoples whom you fear to face.	19 de las grandes pruebas que tus ojos vieron, las señales y prodigios, la mano fuerte y el tenso brazo con que Yahveh tu Dios te sacó. Lo mismo hará Yahveh tu Dios con todos los pueblos a los que temes.
20 And what is more, Yahweh your God wil send hornets to destroy those who are left and who hidefrom you.	20 Yahveh tu Dios enviará incluso avispas contra ellos para destruir a los que hubieren quedado y se te hubieren ocultado a ti.
21 'Do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is among you, a great and terrible God.	21 Así que no tiembles ante ellos, porque en medio de ti está Yahveh tu Dios, Dios grande y temible.
22 Little by little, Yahweh your God will clear away these nations before you; you cannot destroy them allat once, or wild animals wil breed and be disastrous for you.	22 Yahveh tu Dios irá arrojando a esas naciones de delante de ti poco a poco; no podrás exterminarlas de golpe, no sea que las bestias salvajes se multipliquen contra ti,
23 But Yahweh your God wil put them at your mercy, and disaster after disaster wil overtake them untilthey are finally destroyed.	23 sino que Yahveh tu Dios te las entregará y les infligirá grandes descalabros hasta que queden destruidas.
24 He wil put their kings at your mercy and you wil blot out their names under heaven; no one wil beable to resist you -- until you have destroyed them al .	24 Entregará a sus reyes en tu mano y tú borrarás sus nombres de debajo del cielo: nadie podrá resistir ante ti, hasta que los hayas destruido.
25 'You must burn the statues of their gods, not coveting the gold and silver that covers them; take it andyou wil be caught in a snare: it is detestable to Yahweh your God.	25 Quemaréis las esculturas de sus dioses, y no codiciarás el oro y la plata que los recubren, ni lo tomarás para ti, no sea que por ello caigas en un lazo, pues es una cosa abominable para Yahveh tu Dios;
26 You must not bring any detestable thing into your house: or you, like it, wil come under the curse ofdestruction. You must regard them as unclean and loathsome, for they are under the curse of destruction.'	26 y no debes meter en tu casa una cosa abominable, pues te harías anatema como ella. Las tendrás por cosa horrenda y abominable, porque son anatema.
