Deuteronomy 7

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 'When Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are going to make your own,many nations wil fal before you: Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites,seven nations greater and stronger than yourselves.	1 Quando o Senhor, teu Deus, te tiver introduzido na terra que vais possuir, e tiver despojado em teu favor muitas nações, os heteus, os gergeseus, os amorreus, os cananeus, os ferezeus, os heveus e os jebuseus, sete nações maiores e mais poderosas do que tu;
2 Yahweh your God will put them at your mercy and you will conquer them. You must put them under thecurse of destruction. You must not make any treaty with them or show them any pity.	2 quando o Senhor, teu Deus, as tiver entregado e tu as tiveres vencido, então as votarás ao interdito; não farás pacto algum com elas, nem as tratarás com misericórdia.
3 You must not intermarry with them; you must not give a daughter of yours to a son of theirs, or take adaughter of theirs for a son of yours,	3 Não contrairás com elas matrimônios: não darás tua filha a seus filhos, e não tomarás de suas filhas para teu filho,
4 for your son would be seduced from fol owing me into serving other gods; the wrath of Yahweh wouldblaze out against you and he would instantly destroy you.	4 pois elas afastariam do Senhor o teu filho, que serviria a outros deuses; a cólera do Senhor se inflamaria contra ele e não tardaria a exterminar-vos.
5 Instead, treat them like this: tear down their altars, smash their standing-stones, cut down their sacredpoles and burn their idols.	5 Mas eis como procedereis a seu respeito: destruireis seus altares, quebrareis suas estelas, cortareis suas asserás de madeira e queimareis suas imagens de escultura,
6 For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God; of al the peoples on earth, you have beenchosen by Yahweh your God to be his own people.	6 porque és um povo consagrado ao Senhor, teu Deus, o qual te escolheu para seres o seu povo, sua propriedade exclusiva, entre todas as outras nações da terra.
7 'Yahweh set his heart on you and chose you not because you were the most numerous of al peoples --for indeed you were the smal est of al -	7 Não é porque sois mais numerosos que todos os outros povos que o Senhor se uniu a vós e vos escolheu; ao contrário, sois o menor de todos.
8 but because he loved you and meant to keep the oath which he swore to your ancestors: that was whyYahweh brought you out with his mighty hand and redeemed you from the place of slave-labour, from the powerof Pharaoh king of Egypt.	8 Mas o Senhor ama-vos e quer guardar o juramento que fez a vossos pais. Por isso a sua mão poderosa tirou-vos da casa da servidão, e livrou-vos do poder do faraó, rei do Egito.
9 From this you can see that Yahweh your God is the true God, the faithful God who, though he is true tohis covenant and his faithful love for a thousand generations as regards those who love him and keep hiscommandments,	9 Reconhece, pois, que o Senhor, teu Deus, é verdadeiramente Deus, um Deus fiel, que guarda a sua aliança e a sua misericórdia até a milésima geração para com aqueles que o amam e observam os seus mandamentos,
10 punishes in their own persons those that hate him. He destroys anyone who hates him, without delay;and it is in their own persons that he punishes them.	10 mas castiga diretamente aqueles que o odeiam, exterminando-os, e infligindo sem demora o castigo direto àquele que o odeia.
11 Hence, you must keep and observe the commandments, laws and customs which I am laying downfor you today.	11 Observai, pois, as ordenações, as leis e os preceitos que vos prescrevo hoje, e praticai-os.
12 'Listen to these ordinances, be true to them and observe them, and in return Yahweh your God wil betrue to the covenant and love which he promised on oath to your ancestors.	12 Se ouvirdes esses preceitos e os praticardes fielmente, o Senhor, teu Deus, guardará para contigo a aliança de misericórdia que jurou a teus pais,
13 He wil love you and bless you and increase your numbers; he wil bless the fruit of your body and theproduce of your soil, your corn, your new wine, your oil, the issue of your cattle, the young of your flock, in thecountry which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.	13 amando-te, abençoando-te e multiplicando-te: abençoará o fruto de teu ventre e o fruto do teu solo, teu trigo, teu vinho e teu óleo, as crias de tuas vacas e de tuas ovelhas, na terra que jurou a teus pais dar-te.
14 You wil be the most blessed of al peoples. None of you, man or woman, will be sterile, no male orfemale of your beasts infertile.	14 Serás bendito mais que todos os povos. Não haverá no meio de ti quem seja estéril, macho ou fêmea, tanto entre os homens como entre os animais.
15 Yahweh wil deflect al il ness from you; he wil not afflict you with those evil plagues of Egypt whichyou have known, but will inflict them on al who hate you.	15 O Senhor apartará de ti toda a enfermidade; e não permitirá que te toque nenhuma daquelas funestas epidemias do Egito, que conheceste, mas ferirá com elas todos os que te odeiam.
16 'So, devour all the peoples whom Yahweh your God puts at your mercy, show them no pity, do notserve their gods: or you wil be ensnared.	16 Devorarás todos os povos que o Senhor, teu Deus, te entregar; os teus olhos não terão piedade deles. Não servirás os seus deuses, porque isso te seria um laço.
17 'You may say in your heart, "These nations outnumber me; how shal I be able to dispossess them?"	17 Se disseres no teu coração: estes povos são mais numerosos do que eu; como poderia eu despojá-los?
18 Do not be afraid of them: remember how Yahweh your God treated Pharaoh and all Egypt,	18 Não os temas; lembra-te do que fez o Senhor, teu Deus, ao faraó e a todos os egípcios,
19 the great ordeals that you yourselves have seen, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand andoutstretched arm with which Yahweh your God brought you out. This is how Yahweh your God will treat al thepeoples whom you fear to face.	19 das grandes provas que os teus olhos viram, dos sinais e dos prodígios que o Senhor fez quando te tirou do Egito com sua mão forte e seu braço poderoso. O mesmo fará ele a todos os povos que temes.
20 And what is more, Yahweh your God wil send hornets to destroy those who are left and who hidefrom you.	20 O Senhor, teu Deus, enviará mesmo vespas contra eles, até destruir e exterminar todos os que tiverem escapado e se houverem ocultado de tua presença.
21 'Do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is among you, a great and terrible God.	21 Não te assustes por causa deles, porque tens o Senhor, teu Deus, no meio de ti, um Deus grande e temível.
22 Little by little, Yahweh your God will clear away these nations before you; you cannot destroy them allat once, or wild animals wil breed and be disastrous for you.	22 Ele expulsará pouco a pouco essas nações diante de ti; tu não as destruirás de uma só vez, para que não se multipliquem as feras ao redor de ti.
23 But Yahweh your God wil put them at your mercy, and disaster after disaster wil overtake them untilthey are finally destroyed.	23 O Senhor, teu Deus, as entregará a ti e semeará o pânico no meio delas até que todas sejam exterminadas.
24 He wil put their kings at your mercy and you wil blot out their names under heaven; no one wil beable to resist you -- until you have destroyed them al .	24 Entregará os seus reis nas tuas mãos, e tu apagarás os seus nomes de debaixo dos céus. Ninguém te poderá resistir, até que os tenhas derrotado.
25 'You must burn the statues of their gods, not coveting the gold and silver that covers them; take it andyou wil be caught in a snare: it is detestable to Yahweh your God.	25 Queimareis as imagens esculpidas de seus deuses, mas não cobiçareis a prata nem o ouro de que são revestidas, nem delas tomareis nada, para que isso não te seja um laço, pois são uma abominação para o Senhor.
26 You must not bring any detestable thing into your house: or you, like it, wil come under the curse ofdestruction. You must regard them as unclean and loathsome, for they are under the curse of destruction.'	26 Não introduzirás em tua casa coisa alguma abominável, porque serias, como ela, votado ao interdito. Tê-la-ás em extremo horror e grande abominação, porque é votada ao interdito.
