Deuteronomy 7

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'When Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are going to make your own,many nations wil fal before you: Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites,seven nations greater and stronger than yourselves.	1 Quando il Signore tuo Dio ti avrà introdotto nella terra dove vai, per conquistarla, cadranno innanzi a te molte nazioni: gli Hittiti, i Gergesei, gli Amorrei, i Cananei, i Perizziti, gli Evei, i Gebusei, sette nazioni più numerose e più forti di te.
2 Yahweh your God will put them at your mercy and you will conquer them. You must put them under thecurse of destruction. You must not make any treaty with them or show them any pity.	2 Il Signore te le metterà davanti; tu le batterai e le voterai all'anatema. Non stringerai nessun patto con esse, né avrai misericordia di loro.
3 You must not intermarry with them; you must not give a daughter of yours to a son of theirs, or take adaughter of theirs for a son of yours,	3 Con esse non contrarrai matrimonio: non darai tua figlia a un loro figlio, né prenderai una loro figlia per tuo figlio.
4 for your son would be seduced from fol owing me into serving other gods; the wrath of Yahweh wouldblaze out against you and he would instantly destroy you.	4 Poiché tuo figlio si allontanerebbe da me e servirebbero altri dèi, e l'ira del Signore si accenderebbe contro di voi e vi sterminerebbe presto.
5 Instead, treat them like this: tear down their altars, smash their standing-stones, cut down their sacredpoles and burn their idols.	5 Voi invece agirete così: demolirete i loro altari, spezzerete le loro stele, taglierete i loro pali sacri e brucerete i loro idoli nel fuoco.
6 For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God; of al the peoples on earth, you have beenchosen by Yahweh your God to be his own people.	6 Perché tu sei un popolo santo per il Signore tuo Dio; il Signore tuo Dio ti ha scelto affinché sia un popolo particolarmente suo tra tutti i popoli che sono sulla faccia della terra.
7 'Yahweh set his heart on you and chose you not because you were the most numerous of al peoples --for indeed you were the smal est of al -	7 Non perché siete più numerosi di tutti gli altri popoli il Signore si è unito a voi e vi ha scelto; ché anzi voi siete il più piccolo di tutti i popoli.
8 but because he loved you and meant to keep the oath which he swore to your ancestors: that was whyYahweh brought you out with his mighty hand and redeemed you from the place of slave-labour, from the powerof Pharaoh king of Egypt.	8 Ma perché il Signore vi ama e per mantenere il giuramento fatto ai vostri padri, il Signore vi ha fatto uscire con mano potente e vi ha liberato dalla casa di servitù, dalla mano di faraone re d'Egitto.
9 From this you can see that Yahweh your God is the true God, the faithful God who, though he is true tohis covenant and his faithful love for a thousand generations as regards those who love him and keep hiscommandments,	9 Tu sai che il Signore tuo Dio, lui è Dio: il Dio fedele che mantiene l'alleanza e la benevolenza verso coloro che lo amano e osservano i suoi precetti, per mille generazioni,
10 punishes in their own persons those that hate him. He destroys anyone who hates him, without delay;and it is in their own persons that he punishes them.	10 e ripaga nella sua persona colui che lo odia, fino a farlo perire; non tarda, ma lo ripaga nella sua persona.
11 Hence, you must keep and observe the commandments, laws and customs which I am laying downfor you today.	11 Osserverai i precetti, le prescrizioni e i decreti che oggi ti ordino di mettere in pratica.
12 'Listen to these ordinances, be true to them and observe them, and in return Yahweh your God wil betrue to the covenant and love which he promised on oath to your ancestors.	12 Per il fatto che avrete ascoltato questi decreti, li avrete osservati e praticati, il Signore tuo Dio manterrà l'alleanza in tuo favore e la benevolenza che ha giurato ai tuoi padri.
13 He wil love you and bless you and increase your numbers; he wil bless the fruit of your body and theproduce of your soil, your corn, your new wine, your oil, the issue of your cattle, the young of your flock, in thecountry which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.	13 Ti amerà, ti benedirà, ti moltiplicherà; benedirà il frutto del tuo seno, il frutto del tuo suolo, il tuo frumento, il tuo mosto, il tuo olio, i parti delle tue vacche, i nati del tuo gregge sul suolo che ha giurato ai tuoi padri di donarti.
14 You wil be the most blessed of al peoples. None of you, man or woman, will be sterile, no male orfemale of your beasts infertile.	14 Sarai benedetto più di tutti i popoli; presso di te non sarà sterile né l'uomo né la donna, nemmeno il tuo bestiame.
15 Yahweh wil deflect al il ness from you; he wil not afflict you with those evil plagues of Egypt whichyou have known, but will inflict them on al who hate you.	15 Il Signore allontanerà da te ogni infermità; non ti metterà addosso alcuno dei malanni funesti dell'Egitto, che tu conosci, e li darà a tutti quelli che ti odiano.
16 'So, devour all the peoples whom Yahweh your God puts at your mercy, show them no pity, do notserve their gods: or you wil be ensnared.	16 Tu sterminerai tutti i popoli che il Signore tuo Dio ti dona: il tuo occhio non avrà misericordia di loro e non servirai i loro dèi. Ciò sarebbe per te un laccio.
17 'You may say in your heart, "These nations outnumber me; how shal I be able to dispossess them?"	17 Che se dirai in cuor tuo: "Quelle nazioni sono più numerose di me: come potrò cacciarle?".
18 Do not be afraid of them: remember how Yahweh your God treated Pharaoh and all Egypt,	18 Non temerle: ricorda bene quanto ha fatto il Signore tuo Dio al faraone e a tutto l'Egitto,
19 the great ordeals that you yourselves have seen, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand andoutstretched arm with which Yahweh your God brought you out. This is how Yahweh your God will treat al thepeoples whom you fear to face.	19 le grandi prove che videro i tuoi occhi, i segni e i prodigi, la mano potente e il braccio teso con cui il Signore tuo Dio ti ha fatto uscire. Così farà il Signore a tutte le nazioni che tu temi.
20 And what is more, Yahweh your God wil send hornets to destroy those who are left and who hidefrom you.	20 Inoltre, il Signore tuo Dio manderà contro di essi i calabroni, fino ad annientare coloro che erano rimasti e si erano nascosti al tuo sguardo.
21 'Do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is among you, a great and terrible God.	21 Non spaventarti innanzi a loro, poiché il Signore tuo Dio è in mezzo a te: un Dio grande e terribile.
22 Little by little, Yahweh your God will clear away these nations before you; you cannot destroy them allat once, or wild animals wil breed and be disastrous for you.	22 Il Signore tuo Dio caccerà dinanzi a te quelle nazioni, ma a poco a poco: tu non le potrai sterminare subito, affinché le bestie selvagge non si moltiplichino a tuo danno;
23 But Yahweh your God wil put them at your mercy, and disaster after disaster wil overtake them untilthey are finally destroyed.	23 ma il Signore te le metterà dinanzi, esse saranno in preda a grande agitazione, finché non saranno distrutte.
24 He wil put their kings at your mercy and you wil blot out their names under heaven; no one wil beable to resist you -- until you have destroyed them al .	24 Metterà il loro re in mano tua, cancellerai il loro nome di sotto il cielo e nessuno potrà resistere contro di te, finché non le abbia distrutte.
25 'You must burn the statues of their gods, not coveting the gold and silver that covers them; take it andyou wil be caught in a snare: it is detestable to Yahweh your God.	25 Darai alle fiamme i simulacri dei loro dèi. Non desiderare l'argento e l'oro che li ricopre e non trattenerlo per te, affinché per esso tu non sia preso in un laccio, poiché è un abominio per il Signore tuo Dio.
26 You must not bring any detestable thing into your house: or you, like it, wil come under the curse ofdestruction. You must regard them as unclean and loathsome, for they are under the curse of destruction.'	26 Non introdurrai quest'abominio nella tua casa, perché tu diventeresti anatema come esso. Devi detestarlo e averlo in abominio poiché è anatema.
