Deuteronomy 7

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 'When Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are going to make your own,many nations wil fal before you: Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites,seven nations greater and stronger than yourselves.	1 QUANDO il Signore Iddio tuo ti avrà introdotto nel paese, al quale tu vai per possederlo, e avrà stirpate d’innanzi a te molte nazioni, gli Hittei, e i Ghirgasei, e gli Amorrei, e i Cananei, e i Ferezei, e gli Hivvei, e i Gebusei, sette nazioni maggiori e più potenti di te;
2 Yahweh your God will put them at your mercy and you will conquer them. You must put them under thecurse of destruction. You must not make any treaty with them or show them any pity.	2 e il Signore le avrà messe in tuo potere, e tu le avrai sconfitte; del tutto distruggile al modo dell’interdetto; non far patto con loro, e non far loro grazia.
3 You must not intermarry with them; you must not give a daughter of yours to a son of theirs, or take adaughter of theirs for a son of yours,	3 E non imparentarti con loro; non dar le tue figliuole a’ lor figliuoli, e non prender le lor figliuole per li tuoi figliuoli.
4 for your son would be seduced from fol owing me into serving other gods; the wrath of Yahweh wouldblaze out against you and he would instantly destroy you.	4 Perciocchè rivolgerebbero i tuoi figliuoli di dietro a me; onde essi servirebbero a dii stranieri; e l’ira del Signore si accenderebbe contro a voi, ed egli vi distruggerebbe subitamente.
5 Instead, treat them like this: tear down their altars, smash their standing-stones, cut down their sacredpoles and burn their idols.	5 Anzi fate loro così: Disfate i loro altari, e spezzate le loro statue, e tagliate i lor boschi, e bruciate col fuoco le loro sculture.
6 For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God; of al the peoples on earth, you have beenchosen by Yahweh your God to be his own people.	6 Perciocchè tu sei un popol santo al Signore Iddio tuo; il Signore Iddio tuo ti ha scelto, acciocchè tu gli sii un popolo peculiare d’infra tutti i popoli che son sopra la faccia della terra.
7 'Yahweh set his heart on you and chose you not because you were the most numerous of al peoples --for indeed you were the smal est of al -	7 Il Signore non vi ha posta affezione, e non vi ha eletti, perchè foste più grandi che tutti gli altri popoli; conciossiachè eravate in minor numero che alcun di tutti gli altri popoli.
8 but because he loved you and meant to keep the oath which he swore to your ancestors: that was whyYahweh brought you out with his mighty hand and redeemed you from the place of slave-labour, from the powerof Pharaoh king of Egypt.	8 Anzi, perchè il Signore vi ha amati, e perchè egli attiene il giuramento fatto a’ vostri padri, egli vi ha tratti fuori con potente mano, e vi ha riscossi della casa di servitù, della man di Faraone, re di Egitto.
9 From this you can see that Yahweh your God is the true God, the faithful God who, though he is true tohis covenant and his faithful love for a thousand generations as regards those who love him and keep hiscommandments,	9 Conosci adunque che il Signore Iddio tuo è Iddio, l’Iddio verace che osserva il patto e la benignità in mille generazioni, inverso quelli che l’amano, e osservano i suoi comandamenti;
10 punishes in their own persons those that hate him. He destroys anyone who hates him, without delay;and it is in their own persons that he punishes them.	10 e che fa la retribuzione in faccia a quelli che l’odiano, per distruggerli; egli non la prolunga a quelli che l’odiano, anzi la rende loro in faccia.
11 Hence, you must keep and observe the commandments, laws and customs which I am laying downfor you today.	11 Osserva adunque i comandamenti, e gli statuti, e le leggi, le quali oggi ti do, acciocchè tu le metta in opera
12 'Listen to these ordinances, be true to them and observe them, and in return Yahweh your God wil betrue to the covenant and love which he promised on oath to your ancestors.	12 E avverrà, perciocchè voi avrete udite queste leggi, e le avrete osservate, e messe in opera, che il Signore Iddio vostro vi osserverà il patto e la benignità ch’egli ha giurata a’ vostri padri.
13 He wil love you and bless you and increase your numbers; he wil bless the fruit of your body and theproduce of your soil, your corn, your new wine, your oil, the issue of your cattle, the young of your flock, in thecountry which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.	13 Ed egli ti amerà, e ti benedirà, e ti accrescerà, e benedirà il frutto del tuo seno, e il frutto della tua terra; il tuo frumento, e il tuo mosto, e il tuo olio; i parti delle tue vacche, e le gregge delle tue pecore; nel paese del quale egli giurò a’ tuoi padri, ch’egli te lo darebbe.
14 You wil be the most blessed of al peoples. None of you, man or woman, will be sterile, no male orfemale of your beasts infertile.	14 Tu sarai benedetto sopra tutti i popoli; ei non vi sarà nel mezzo di te, e del tuo bestiame, nè maschio, nè femmina sterile.
15 Yahweh wil deflect al il ness from you; he wil not afflict you with those evil plagues of Egypt whichyou have known, but will inflict them on al who hate you.	15 E il Signore rimoverà da te ogni malattia; e non ti metterà addosso alcuna di quelle malvage infermità di Egitto, delle quali tu hai avuto conoscenza; anzi le metterà addosso a tutti i tuoi nemici.
16 'So, devour all the peoples whom Yahweh your God puts at your mercy, show them no pity, do notserve their gods: or you wil be ensnared.	16 Distruggi adunque tutti i popoli che il Signore Iddio tuo ti dà; l’occhio tuo non li risparmi, e non servire agl’iddii loro; perciocchè ciò ti sarebbe un laccio.
17 'You may say in your heart, "These nations outnumber me; how shal I be able to dispossess them?"	17 Se pur tu dici nel tuo cuore: Queste nazioni sono più grandi di me, come le potrò io scacciare?
18 Do not be afraid of them: remember how Yahweh your God treated Pharaoh and all Egypt,	18 Non temer di loro; ricordati pur delle cose che il Signore Iddio tuo ha fatte a Faraone, e a tutti gli Egizj;
19 the great ordeals that you yourselves have seen, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand andoutstretched arm with which Yahweh your God brought you out. This is how Yahweh your God will treat al thepeoples whom you fear to face.	19 delle gran prove che gli occhi tuoi hanno vedute, e de’ miracoli, e de’ prodigi, e della potente mano, e del braccio steso, col quale il Signore Iddio tuo ti ha tratto fuori; e così farà il Signore Iddio tuo a tutti i popoli, dei quali tu temi.
20 And what is more, Yahweh your God wil send hornets to destroy those who are left and who hidefrom you.	20 Il Signore Iddio tuo manderà eziandio de’ calabroni contro a loro, finchè quelli che saran rimasti, e quelli che si saran nascosti dal tuo cospetto, sieno periti.
21 'Do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is among you, a great and terrible God.	21 Non isgomentarti per cagion di loro; conciossiachè il Signore Iddio tuo, Dio grande e tremendo, sia nel mezzo di te.
22 Little by little, Yahweh your God will clear away these nations before you; you cannot destroy them allat once, or wild animals wil breed and be disastrous for you.	22 Or il Signore Iddio tuo stirperà quelle nazioni d’innanzi a te, a poco a poco; tu non le potrai distruggere subitamente; che talora le fiere della campagna non moltiplichino contro a te.
23 But Yahweh your God wil put them at your mercy, and disaster after disaster wil overtake them untilthey are finally destroyed.	23 E il Signore Iddio tuo le metterà in tuo potere, e le romperà d’una gran rotta, finchè sieno distrutte.
24 He wil put their kings at your mercy and you wil blot out their names under heaven; no one wil beable to resist you -- until you have destroyed them al .	24 E ti darà i re loro nelle mani, e tu farai perire il lor nome di sotto al cielo; niuno potrà starti a fronte, finchè tu le abbia distrutte.
25 'You must burn the statues of their gods, not coveting the gold and silver that covers them; take it andyou wil be caught in a snare: it is detestable to Yahweh your God.	25 Brucia col fuoco le sculture de’ loro dii; non appetir l’argento, nè l’oro che sarà sopra esse, e non prenderlo per te; che talora tu non ne sii allacciato; perciocchè è cosa abbominevole al Signore Iddio tuo.
26 You must not bring any detestable thing into your house: or you, like it, wil come under the curse ofdestruction. You must regard them as unclean and loathsome, for they are under the curse of destruction.'	26 E non recare in casa tua cosa abbominevole, onde tu sii interdetto, come è quella cosa; abbilo del tutto in detestazione, e abbominalo; conciossiachè sia interdetto
