Deuteronomy 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Moses cal ed al Israel together and said to them, 'Listen, Israel, to the laws and customs that I proclaimto you today. Learn them and take care to observe them.	1 Mosè convocò tutto Israele e gli disse: « Ascolta, o Israele, le cerimonie e le ordinazioni che oggi io proclamo alle vostre orecchie; imparatele e mettetele in pratica.
2 'Yahweh our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.	2 In Oreb il Signore Dio nostro fece un patto con noi:
3 Yahweh made this covenant not with our ancestors, but with us, with all of us alive here today.	3 non lo fece coi nostri padri; ma con noi che siam presenti e viviamo.
4 On the mountain, from the heart of the fire, Yahweh spoke to you face to face,	4 Egli sul monte ci parlò faccia, a faccia, di mezzo al fuoco.
5 while I stood between you and Yahweh to let you know what Yahweh was saying, since you were afraidof the fire and had not gone up the mountain. He said:	5 Io fui allora l'interprete e il mediatore tra il Signore e voi e vi annunziavo le sue parole, perchè voi, temendo quel fuoco, non osaste salire sul monte. Egli disse:
6 ' "I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, out of the place of slave-labour.	6 Io sono il Signore Dio tuo, che ti ho tratto dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù.
7 ' "You will have no gods other than me.	7 Non avere altri dèi nel mio cospetto.
8 ' "You must not make yourselves any image or any likeness of anything in heaven above or on earthbeneath or in the waters under the earth;	8 Non ti fare alcuna scultura nè imagine delle cose che sono lassù in cielo, nè di quelle che sono quaggiù in terra o nelle acque sotto terra.
9 you must not bow down to these gods or serve them. For I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God and Ipunish the parents' fault in the children, the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren, among those who hateme;	9 Non le adorare, non render loro culto; perchè io sono il Signore Dio tuo, Dio geloso, che punisco l'iniquità dei padri sopra i figli, fino alla terza e alla quarta generazione di coloro che mi odiano,
10 but I show faithful love to thousands, to those who love me and keep my commandments.	10 ed uso misericordia fino alla millesima generazione a coloro che mi amano e osservano i miei comandamenti.
11 ' "You must not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh wil not leave unpunished anyonewho uses his name for what is false.	11 Non proferire invano il nome del Signore Dio tuo, perchè non resterà impunito chi proferirà quel nome per una cosa vana.
12 ' "Observe the Sabbath day and keep it holy, as Yahweh your God has commanded you.	12 Osserva il giorno di sabato, santificalo, come ti ha comandato il Signore Dio tuo.
13 Labour for six days, doing all your work,	13 Lavorerai per sei giorni e farai in essi tutti i tuoi lavori,
14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God. You must not do any work that day, neitheryou, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servants -- male or female -- nor your ox, nor your donkey, norany of your animals, nor the foreigner who has made his home with you;	14 ma il settimo è il giorno del sabato, cioè del riposo del Signore Dio tuo. In esso non farai alcun lavoro, nè tu, nè il tuo figlio, nè la tua figlia, nè il tuo servo, nè la tua serva, nè il tuo bue, nè il tuo asino, nè alcuna delle tue bestie, nè il forestiero che è dentro le tue porte. Affinchè il tuo servo e la tua serva possano riposarsi come te,
15 so that your servants, male and female, may rest, as you do. Remember that you were once a slave inEgypt, and that Yahweh your God brought you out of there with mighty hand and outstretched arm; this is whyYahweh your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.	15 ricordati che anche tu sei stato servo in Egitto, e che il Signore Dio tuo ti ha tratto di là con mano possente e braccio disteso. Per questo il Signore ti comanda d'osservare il giorno del sabato.
16 ' "Honour your father and your mother, as Yahweh your God has commanded you, so that you mayhave long life and may prosper in the country which Yahweh your God is giving you.	16 Onora tuo padre e tua madre, come il Signore Dio tuo ti ha comandato, affinchè tù possa vivere lungamente ed aver bene sopra la terra che il Signore Dio tuo sta per darti.
17 ' "You must not kil .	17 Non ammazzare.
18 ' "You must not commit adultery.	18 Non commettere adulterio.
19 ' "You must not steal.	19 Non rubare.
20 ' "You must not give false evidence against your fel ow.	20 Non dir falsa testimonianza contro il tuo prossimo.
21 ' "You must not set your heart on your neighbour's spouse, you must not set your heart on yourneighbour's house, or field, or servant-man or woman -- or ox, or donkey or any of your neighbour'spossessions."	21 Non desiderare la moglie del tuo prossimo, nè la casa, nè il campo, nè il servo, nè la serva, nè il bue, nè l'asino, nè alcun'altra cosa che appartengano a lui.
22 'These were the words Yahweh spoke to you when you were al assembled on the mountain.Thunderously, he spoke to you from the heart of the fire, in cloud and thick darkness. He added nothing, butwrote them on two tablets of stone which he gave to me.	22 Queste parole il Signore le disse a tutta la vostra assemblea, di mezzo al fuoco, tra le nubi e la caligine, con voce potente, e non aggiunse altro: le scrisse su due tavole di pietra e me le diede.
23 'Now, having heard this voice coming out of the darkness, while the mountain was al on fire, youcame to me, al of you, heads of tribes and elders,	23 Ma dopo aver sentita quella voce tra le tenebre ed aver veduto il monte in fiamme, voi tutti, principi delle tribù e anziani, veniste da me e diceste:
24 and said, "Yahweh our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voicefrom the heart of the fire. Today we have seen that God can speak with a human being and that person stil live.	24 Ecco, il Signore ci ha fatto vedere la sua maestà e la sua grandezza; abbiamo udita la sua voce di mezzo al fuoco; oggi abbiamo provato che parlando Dio coll'uomo, l'uomo può rimanere in vita.
25 So why should we expose ourselves to death again? For this great fire might devour us if we go onlistening to the voice of Yahweh our God, and then we should die.	25 Ma perchè dovremo noi morire ed essere divorati da questo gran fuoco? Se continuiamo a sentire la voce del Signore Dio nostro, noi morremo!
26 For what creature of flesh could possibly live after hearing, as we have heard, the voice of the livingGod speaking from the heart of the fire?	26 E qual è il mortale che possa udire la voce del Dio vivente che parla di mezzo ai fuoco, come l'abbiamo sentita noi, e possa restare in vita?
27 Go nearer yourself and listen to everything that Yahweh our God may say, and then tel us everything that Yahweh our God has told you; we shal listen and put it into practice!"	27 Pìuttosto appressati tu, e, ascoltato tutto quello che il Signore Dio nostro ti dirà, ce lo riferirai, e noi l'ascolteremo e lo faremo.
28 'Yahweh heard what you were saying to me, and he then said to me, "I have heard what these peopleare saying. Everything they have said is well said.	28 Sentita la cosa, il Signore mi disse: Ho udito il suono delle parole che questo popolo t'ha rivolte: han parlato bene in tutto.
29 If only their heart were always so, set on fearing me and on keeping my commandments, so that theyand their children might prosper for ever!	29 Chi darà loro d'avere un tale spirito, da temermi e da osservare sempre i miei comandamenti, affinchè essi e i loro figli sian felici in eterno?
30 Go and tell them to go back to their tents.	30 Va, e di' loro: Tornate alle vostre tende.
31 But you yourself stay here with me, and I shal tel you all the commandments, the laws and thecustoms which you are to teach them and which they are to observe in the country which I am giving them astheir possession."	31 Ma tu rimani qui con me ed io ti esporrò tutti i miei precetti, le cerimonie e le ordinazioni che insegnerai loro, affinchè le mettano in pratica nel paese che darò loro in possesso.
32 'Keep them and put them into practice: such is Yahweh's command to you. Stray neither to right nor toleft.	32 Abbiate dunque cura di fare ciò che il Signore Dio vi ha comandato; senza volgere a destra o a sinistra,
33 Fol ow the whole way that Yahweh has marked for you, and you wil survive to prosper and live long inthe country which you are going to possess.'	33 camminate per quella via che il Signore Dio vi ha prescritta, affinchè abbiate vita e bene, e si prolunghino i vostri giorni nella terra di cui otterrete il possesso.
