Deuteronomy 5

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Moses cal ed al Israel together and said to them, 'Listen, Israel, to the laws and customs that I proclaimto you today. Learn them and take care to observe them.	1 Mosè convocò tutto Israele e disse loro: "Ascolta, Israele, le prescrizioni e i decreti che io oggi pronuncio alle tue orecchie. Imparateli e osservateli, mettendoli in pratica.
2 'Yahweh our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.	2 Il Signore nostro Dio strinse con noi un'alleanza all'Oreb.
3 Yahweh made this covenant not with our ancestors, but with us, with all of us alive here today.	3 Non con i nostri padri il Signore strinse quest'alleanza, ma con noi che oggi siamo qui tutti vivi.
4 On the mountain, from the heart of the fire, Yahweh spoke to you face to face,	4 Il Signore parlò con voi sulla montagna in mezzo al fuoco faccia a faccia;
5 while I stood between you and Yahweh to let you know what Yahweh was saying, since you were afraidof the fire and had not gone up the mountain. He said:	5 io stavo tra il Signore e voi in quel tempo per riferirvi le parole del Signore. Perché voi aveste paura del fuoco e non saliste sulla montagna. Egli disse:
6 ' "I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, out of the place of slave-labour.	6 "Io sono il Signore tuo Dio, che ti ho fatto uscire dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù.
7 ' "You will have no gods other than me.	7 Non avrai altri dèi davanti a me.
8 ' "You must not make yourselves any image or any likeness of anything in heaven above or on earthbeneath or in the waters under the earth;	8 Non ti farai nessuna figura scolpita di qualsiasi genere: di ciò ch'è in alto nei cieli, di ciò ch'è in basso sulla terra e di ciò che è nelle acque sotto la terra.
9 you must not bow down to these gods or serve them. For I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God and Ipunish the parents' fault in the children, the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren, among those who hateme;	9 Non li adorerai e non li servirai. Perché io, il Signore tuo Dio, sono un Dio geloso, che punisce l'iniquità dei padri sui figli, sulla terza e quarta generazione di coloro che mi odiano,
10 but I show faithful love to thousands, to those who love me and keep my commandments.	10 ma fa grazia fino alla millesima generazione di coloro che mi amano e osservano i miei precetti.
11 ' "You must not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh wil not leave unpunished anyonewho uses his name for what is false.	11 Non ti servirai del nome del Signore tuo Dio per la menzogna, poiché il Signore non lascia impunito chi si serve del suo nome per la menzogna.
12 ' "Observe the Sabbath day and keep it holy, as Yahweh your God has commanded you.	12 Osserva il giorno del sabato per santificarlo, come ti ha ordinato il Signore tuo Dio.
13 Labour for six days, doing all your work,	13 Per sei giorni lavorerai e farai tutte le tue opere,
14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God. You must not do any work that day, neitheryou, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servants -- male or female -- nor your ox, nor your donkey, norany of your animals, nor the foreigner who has made his home with you;	14 ma il settimo giorno è il sabato per il Signore tuo Dio; non farai alcun lavoro, né tu né tuo figlio né tua figlia né il tuo servo né la tua serva né il tuo bue né il tuo asino né alcuna delle tue bestie né il forestiero che si trova entro le tue porte affinché si riposi il tuo servo e la tua serva come te.
15 so that your servants, male and female, may rest, as you do. Remember that you were once a slave inEgypt, and that Yahweh your God brought you out of there with mighty hand and outstretched arm; this is whyYahweh your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.	15 Ricorda che sei stato servo nella terra d'Egitto e che il Signore tuo Dio ti ha fatto uscire di là con mano forte e braccio steso; perciò il Signore tuo Dio ti ha ordinato di celebrare il giorno del sabato.
16 ' "Honour your father and your mother, as Yahweh your God has commanded you, so that you mayhave long life and may prosper in the country which Yahweh your God is giving you.	16 Onora tuo padre e tua madre come ti ha ordinato il Signore tuo Dio, affinché prolunghi i tuoi giorni e sii felice sul suolo che il Signore tuo Dio ti dona.
17 ' "You must not kil .	17 Non ucciderai.
18 ' "You must not commit adultery.	18 Non commetterai adulterio.
19 ' "You must not steal.	19 Non ruberai.
20 ' "You must not give false evidence against your fel ow.	20 Non renderai una testimonianza falsa contro il tuo prossimo.
21 ' "You must not set your heart on your neighbour's spouse, you must not set your heart on yourneighbour's house, or field, or servant-man or woman -- or ox, or donkey or any of your neighbour'spossessions."	21 Non desidererai la moglie del tuo prossimo; non bramerai la casa del tuo prossimo né il suo campo né il suo servo né la sua serva né il suo bue né il suo asino e nulla di quanto è del tuo prossimo".
22 'These were the words Yahweh spoke to you when you were al assembled on the mountain.Thunderously, he spoke to you from the heart of the fire, in cloud and thick darkness. He added nothing, butwrote them on two tablets of stone which he gave to me.	22 Queste parole disse il Signore a tutta la vostra assemblea sul monte, in mezzo al fuoco, alle nubi e ai nembi: voce grande! Non aggiunse altro; le scrisse su due tavole di pietra e le diede a me.
23 'Now, having heard this voice coming out of the darkness, while the mountain was al on fire, youcame to me, al of you, heads of tribes and elders,	23 Quando voi udiste la voce di mezzo alle tenebre, mentre il monte era in fiamme, si avvicinarono a me tutti i vostri capitribù e anziani
24 and said, "Yahweh our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voicefrom the heart of the fire. Today we have seen that God can speak with a human being and that person stil live.	24 e mi dissero: "Il Signore nostro Dio ci ha mostrato la sua gloria e la sua grandezza, e abbiamo udito la sua voce di mezzo al fuoco: oggi abbiamo visto che Dio può parlare all'uomo e questi rimanere vivo.
25 So why should we expose ourselves to death again? For this great fire might devour us if we go onlistening to the voice of Yahweh our God, and then we should die.	25 Ma ora perché dovremmo morire? Questo gran fuoco, infatti, ci divorerà. Se noi continuiamo a udire la voce del Signore nostro Dio, moriremo.
26 For what creature of flesh could possibly live after hearing, as we have heard, the voice of the livingGod speaking from the heart of the fire?	26 Perché chi è fra tutti i mortali che, come noi, abbia udito la voce del Dio vivo che parla in mezzo al fuoco e sia rimasto vivo?
27 Go nearer yourself and listen to everything that Yahweh our God may say, and then tel us everything that Yahweh our God has told you; we shal listen and put it into practice!"	27 Accostati tu e ascolta tutto ciò che dirà il Signore nostro Dio; tu ripeterai a noi tutto ciò che ti avrà detto il Signore nostro Dio e noi ascolteremo ed eseguiremo".
28 'Yahweh heard what you were saying to me, and he then said to me, "I have heard what these peopleare saying. Everything they have said is well said.	28 Il Signore udì il suono delle vostre parole mentre voi mi parlavate e mi disse: "Ho udito il suono delle parole di questo popolo, che ti hanno rivolto. Hanno parlato bene in tutto.
29 If only their heart were always so, set on fearing me and on keeping my commandments, so that theyand their children might prosper for ever!	29 Potesse il loro cuore essere sempre così nel temere me e nell'osservare tutti i miei precetti, perché fossero felici loro e i loro figli!
30 Go and tell them to go back to their tents.	30 Va' e di' loro: Ritornate alle vostre tende.
31 But you yourself stay here with me, and I shal tel you all the commandments, the laws and thecustoms which you are to teach them and which they are to observe in the country which I am giving them astheir possession."	31 Tu invece resta qui presso di me. Io ti indicherò tutti i precetti, le prescrizioni e i decreti che dovrai insegnare loro, perché li mettano in pratica nella terra che do loro in possesso".
32 'Keep them and put them into practice: such is Yahweh's command to you. Stray neither to right nor toleft.	32 Guardate dunque di fare come vi ha ordinato il Signore vostro Dio. Non devierete né a destra né a sinistra.
33 Fol ow the whole way that Yahweh has marked for you, and you wil survive to prosper and live long inthe country which you are going to possess.'	33 Seguirete tutta la strada che vi ha ordinato il Signore vostro Dio, perché viviate, siate felici, e prolunghiate i vostri giorni sulla terra che occuperete.
