Deuteronomy 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 Moses cal ed al Israel together and said to them, 'Listen, Israel, to the laws and customs that I proclaimto you today. Learn them and take care to observe them.	1 E Mosè convocò tutto Israele, e gli disse: Ascolta, o Israele, le ceremonie, e le leggi, le quali io intimo alle vostre orecchie: imparatele, e mettetele in pratica.
2 'Yahweh our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.	2 Il Signore Dio nostro ha fermato un patto con noi in Horeb.
3 Yahweh made this covenant not with our ancestors, but with us, with all of us alive here today.	3 Non co' padri nostri fermò egli questo patto, ma con noi, che or siamo e viviamo.
4 On the mountain, from the heart of the fire, Yahweh spoke to you face to face,	4 Egli ci parlò faccia a faccia dal monte di mezzo al fuoco.
5 while I stood between you and Yahweh to let you know what Yahweh was saying, since you were afraidof the fire and had not gone up the mountain. He said:	5 Io fui allora interprete e mediatore tra’ l Signore e voi per annunziarvi le sue parole: perché voi temeste quel fuoco, e non saliste al monte. Or egli disse:
6 ' "I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, out of the place of slave-labour.	6 Io il Signore Dio tuo, che ti condussi fuor della terra di Egitto, della casa di schiavitù.
7 ' "You will have no gods other than me.	7 Non avrai altri dei in mio confronto.
8 ' "You must not make yourselves any image or any likeness of anything in heaven above or on earthbeneath or in the waters under the earth;	8 Non ti formerai statua, o figura di alcuna delle cose, che sono lassù in cielo, né di quelle che sono quaggiù in terra, o abitano nelle acque sotto la terra.
9 you must not bow down to these gods or serve them. For I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God and Ipunish the parents' fault in the children, the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren, among those who hateme;	9 Non le adorerai, né renderai loro verun culto. Perocché io sono il Signore Dio tuo: Dio geloso, che punisco l'iniquità de' padri sopra i figliuoli sino alla terza, e alla quarta generazione di coloro, che mi odiano:
10 but I show faithful love to thousands, to those who love me and keep my commandments.	10 E fo misericordia per molte migliaia di generazioni a coloro, che mi amano, e osservano i miei comandamenti.
11 ' "You must not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh wil not leave unpunished anyonewho uses his name for what is false.	11 Non prenderai il nome del Signore Dio tuo invano: perocché non andrà impunito chiunque per una cosa vana avrà adoprato il nome di lui.
12 ' "Observe the Sabbath day and keep it holy, as Yahweh your God has commanded you.	12 Osserva il giorno di sabato per santificarlo, come ti ordinò il Signore Dio tuo.
13 Labour for six days, doing all your work,	13 Sei giorni lavorerai, e farai tutto quello che ti occorre.
14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God. You must not do any work that day, neitheryou, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servants -- male or female -- nor your ox, nor your donkey, norany of your animals, nor the foreigner who has made his home with you;	14 Il settimo giorno egli è il sabato, vale a dire la requie del Signore Dio tuo. In esso non farai alcun lavoro tu, e il tuo figliuolo, e la figliuola, il servo, e la serva, e il bue, e l’asino, e tutte le tue bestie, e il forestiero, che sta dentro le tue porte, affinché abbia requie il tuo servo, e la tua serva, come anche tu.
15 so that your servants, male and female, may rest, as you do. Remember that you were once a slave inEgypt, and that Yahweh your God brought you out of there with mighty hand and outstretched arm; this is whyYahweh your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.	15 Ricordati, che tu pur fosti servo in Egitto, e di là ti trasse il Signore Dio tuo con mano possente, e braccio disteso. Per questo ei ti comandò di ricordarti del giorno di sabato.
16 ' "Honour your father and your mother, as Yahweh your God has commanded you, so that you mayhave long life and may prosper in the country which Yahweh your God is giving you.	16 Onora il padre tuo, e la madre, come ti ordinò il Signore Dio tuo, affinché tu viva lungamente, e sii felice sopra la terra, di cui il Signore Dio tuo ti darà il dominio.
17 ' "You must not kil .	17 Non ammazzare.
18 ' "You must not commit adultery.	18 Non fornicare.
19 ' "You must not steal.	19 Non rubare.
20 ' "You must not give false evidence against your fel ow.	20 Non dire il falso testimonio contro il prossimo tuo.
21 ' "You must not set your heart on your neighbour's spouse, you must not set your heart on yourneighbour's house, or field, or servant-man or woman -- or ox, or donkey or any of your neighbour'spossessions."	21 Non desiderare la moglie del prossimo tuo; non la casa, non il podere, non il servo, non la serva, non il bue, non l’asino, non alcuna cosa di tutte quelle che a lui appartengono.
22 'These were the words Yahweh spoke to you when you were al assembled on the mountain.Thunderously, he spoke to you from the heart of the fire, in cloud and thick darkness. He added nothing, butwrote them on two tablets of stone which he gave to me.	22 Queste parole disse il Signore a tutta la vostra adunanza sul monte di mezzo al fuoco, e alla nuvola, e alla caligine con voce grande, e non aggiunse nulla di più: e le scrisse su due tavole di pietra, le quali ei diede a me.
23 'Now, having heard this voice coming out of the darkness, while the mountain was al on fire, youcame to me, al of you, heads of tribes and elders,	23 Ma voi dopo avere udita quella voce di mezzo alle tenebre, e dopo aver veduto ardere il monte, veniste da me voi tutti principi delle tribù, e seniori, e diceste:
24 and said, "Yahweh our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voicefrom the heart of the fire. Today we have seen that God can speak with a human being and that person stil live.	24 Ecco che il Signore Dio nostro ci ha fatto conoscere la sua maestà e grandezza: abbiamo udito la sua voce di mezzo al fuoco, e abbiamo oggi fatto prova, che parlando Dio a un uomo, l'uomo sia rimaso in vita.
25 So why should we expose ourselves to death again? For this great fire might devour us if we go onlistening to the voice of Yahweh our God, and then we should die.	25 Ma perché morremo noi, e sarem divorati da quel gran fuoco? Imperocché, se udiremo un poco più la voce del Signore Dio nostro, noi morremo.
26 For what creature of flesh could possibly live after hearing, as we have heard, the voice of the livingGod speaking from the heart of the fire?	26 Che è egli l'uomo, chiunque egli sia, che possa udire la voce di Dio vivente, che parla di mezzo al fuoco, come l'abbiamo udita noi, e possa vivere?
27 Go nearer yourself and listen to everything that Yahweh our God may say, and then tel us everything that Yahweh our God has told you; we shal listen and put it into practice!"	27 Piuttosto appressati tu, e ascolta tutto quello che il Signore Dio nostro ti dirà: e lo ridirai a noi, e noi avendolo udito lo faremo.
28 'Yahweh heard what you were saying to me, and he then said to me, "I have heard what these peopleare saying. Everything they have said is well said.	28 Udita tal cosa, il Signore disse a me: Ho sentito il suono delle parole dette a te da questo popolo: hanno parlato bene in tutto.
29 If only their heart were always so, set on fearing me and on keeping my commandments, so that theyand their children might prosper for ever!	29 Chi darà loro tale spirito, che mi temano, e osservino tutti i miei comandamenti in ogni tempo, affinché sien felici eglino, e i loro figliuoli in eterno?
30 Go and tell them to go back to their tents.	30 Va' e di' loro: Tornatevene alle vostre tende.
31 But you yourself stay here with me, and I shal tel you all the commandments, the laws and thecustoms which you are to teach them and which they are to observe in the country which I am giving them astheir possession."	31 Ma tu sta qui meco, e io ti spiegherò tutti i miei precetti, e le cerimonie, e le leggi, le quali tu insegnerai ad essi, affinché le osservino nel paese, di cui darò loro il possesso.
32 'Keep them and put them into practice: such is Yahweh's command to you. Stray neither to right nor toleft.	32 Osservate adunque, e adempite tutti i precetti dati a voi dal Signore Dio: non torcete né a destra, né a sinistra:
33 Fol ow the whole way that Yahweh has marked for you, and you wil survive to prosper and live long inthe country which you are going to possess.'	33 Ma camminate per quella via, che vi ha prescritta il Signore Dio vostro, affinché abbiate vita e felicità, e si moltiplichino i giorni vostri nella terra, di cui otterrete il possesso.
