NEW JERUSALEMNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Then, leaving the Plains of Moab, Moses went up Mount Nebo, the peak of Pisgah opposite Jericho,and Yahweh showed him the whole country: Gilead as far as Dan,1 Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, the headland of Pisgah which faces Jericho, and the LORD showed him all the land-Gilead, and as far as Dan,
the whole of Naphtali, the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, the whole country of Judah as far as theWestern Sea,2 all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea,
the Negeb, and the region of the Val ey of Jericho, city of palm trees, as far as Zoar.3 the Negeb, the circuit of the Jordan with the lowlands at Jericho, city of palms, and as far as Zoar.
Yahweh said to him, 'This is the country which I promised on oath to give to Abraham, Isaac andJacob, saying: I shal give it to your descendants. I have al owed you to see it for yourself, but you wil not crossinto it.'4 The LORD then said to him, "This is the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give to their descendants. I have let you feast your eyes upon it, but you shall not cross over."
There in the country of Moab, Moses, servant of Yahweh, died as Yahweh decreed;5 So there, in the land of Moab, Moses, the servant of the LORD, died as the LORD had said;
he buried him in the val ey, in the country of Moab, opposite Beth-Peor; but to this day no one hasever found his grave.6 and he was buried in the ravine opposite Beth-peor in the land of Moab, but to this day no one knows the place of his burial.
Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, his eye undimmed, his vigour unimpaired.7 Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were undimmed and his vigor unabated.
The Israelites wept for Moses on the Plains of Moab for thirty days. The days of weeping for themourning rites of Moses came to an end.8 For thirty days the Israelites wept for Moses in the plains of Moab, till they had completed the period of grief and mourning for Moses.
Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him, and himthe Israelites obeyed, carrying out the order which Yahweh had given to Moses.9 Now Joshua, son of Nun, was filled with the spirit of wisdom, since Moses had laid his hands upon him; and so the Israelites gave him their obedience, thus carrying out the LORD'S command to Moses.
Since then, there has never been such a prophet in Israel as Moses, the man whom Yahweh knewface to face.10 Since then no prophet has arisen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face.
What signs and wonders Yahweh caused him to perform in Egypt against Pharaoh, al his servantsand his whole country!11 He had no equal in all the signs and wonders the LORD sent him to perform in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh and all his servants and against all his land,
How mighty the hand and great the fear that Moses wielded in the eyes of al Israel!12 and for the might and the terrifying power that Moses exhibited in the sight of all Israel.
