Deuteronomy 31

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Moses went and spoke to all Israel as follows,	1 Mosè andò e rivolse queste parole a tutto Israele.
2 'Today, I am one hundred and twenty years old, and can no longer act as leader. Yahweh has toldme, "You shal not cross this Jordan."	2 Disse loro: "Io oggi ho centovent'anni. Non posso più andare e venire. Il Signore mi ha detto: "Non attraverserai questo Giordano".
3 Yahweh your God himself will lead you across, he himself wil destroy and dispossess these nationsconfronting you; Joshua too wil lead you across, as Yahweh has said.	3 Il Signore tuo Dio, lui lo attraverserà davanti a te, lui distruggerà quelle nazioni davanti a te e le caccerà. E Giosuè, lui lo attraverserà davanti a te, come ti ha detto il Signore.
4 Yahweh wil treat them as he has treated Sihon and Og the Amorite kings and their country -- hedestroyed them.	4 Il Signore farà ad esse come ha fatto a Sicon e a Og re degli Amorrei e alla loro terra, che ha distrutti.
5 Yahweh wil put them at your mercy, and you wil deal with them exactly as prescribed by thecommandments which I have laid down for you.	5 Il Signore le metterà in vostro potere e voi le tratterete secondo il comandamento che vi ho prescritto.
6 Be strong, stand firm, have no fear, do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is going with you;he wil not fail you or desert you.'	6 Siate forti, siate valorosi! Non abbiate paura, non spaventatevi dinanzi a loro, perché il Signore tuo Dio è lui che cammina con te: non ti abbandonerà e non ti trascurerà".
7 Moses then summoned Joshua and, in the presence of al Israel, said to him, 'Be strong, stand firm;you wil be the one to go with this people into the country which Yahweh has sworn to their ancestors that hewould give them; you are to be the one who puts them into possession of it.	7 Allora Mosè chiamò Giosuè e, alla presenza di tutto Israele, gli disse: "Sii forte, sii valoroso! Perché tu condurrai questo popolo nella terra che il Signore promise con giuramento ai suoi padri: tu la metterai in loro possesso.
8 Yahweh himself will lead you; he wil be with you; he will not fail you or desert you. Have no fear, donot be alarmed.'	8 Il Signore stesso cammina davanti a te, e sarà con te. Non ti abbandonerà e non ti trascurerà. Non aver paura, non tremare".
9 Moses committed this Law to writing and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark ofYahweh's covenant, and to al the elders of Israel.	9 Mosè scrisse questa legge e l'affidò ai sacerdoti, figli di Levi, che portavano l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore, e a tutti gli anziani d'Israele;
10 And Moses gave them this command, 'At the end of every seven years, at the time fixed for the yearof remission, at the feast of Shelters,	10 Mosè ordinò loro: "Al termine di sette anni, nel tempo fissato per l'anno del condono, alla festa delle Capanne,
11 when all Israel assembles in the presence of Yahweh your God in the place chosen by him, you mustproclaim this Law in the hearing of al Israel.	11 quando verrà tutto Israele per presentarsi davanti al Signore tuo Dio nel luogo che sceglierà, leggerai questa legge davanti a tutto Israele.
12 Cal the people together, men, women, children, and the foreigner residing with you, so that, hearingit, they may learn to fear Yahweh your God and keep and observe al the words of this Law.	12 Raduna il popolo, uomini, donne, bambini e il forestiero che è nelle tue città, perché ascoltino e imparino a temere il Signore vostro Dio e abbiano cura di mettere in pratica tutte le parole di questa legge.
13 Their children, who as yet do not know it, wil hear it and learn to fear Yahweh your God, all the timeyou live in the country which you are crossing the Jordan to possess.'	13 I loro figli che ancora non la conoscono ascolteranno e impareranno a temere il Signore vostro Dio ogni giorno che vivrete sulla terra verso la quale andate, attraversando il Giordano per conquistarla".
14 Yahweh said to Moses, 'And now the time is near when you must die. Summon Joshua and takeyour places at the Tent of Meeting, so that I can give him his orders.' Moses and Joshua went and took theirplaces at the Tent of Meeting,	14 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Ecco, si avvicinano i giorni della tua morte. Chiama Giosuè e state nella tenda del convegno, perché gli dia i miei ordini". Mosè e Giosuè stettero nella tenda del convegno,
15 and Yahweh showed himself at the Tent in a pil ar of cloud; the pil ar of cloud stood at the door of theTent.	15 e apparve il Signore nella tenda in una colonna di nube; la colonna di nube si fermò all'ingresso della tenda.
16 Yahweh said to Moses, 'You will soon be sleeping with your ancestors, and this people is about toplay the harlot by fol owing the gods of the foreigners of the country, among whom they are going to live. Theywil desert me and break my covenant, which I have made with them.	16 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Ecco, stai per addormentarti con i tuoi padri. Questo popolo si leverà per prostituirsi dietro a dèi stranieri, quelli della terra in mezzo alla quale sta andando; mi abbandonerà e romperà l'alleanza che ho concluso con lui.
17 That very day, my anger wil blaze against them; I shal desert them and hide my face from them. Ahost of disasters and misfortunes will overtake them to devour them, and when that day comes they wil say, "Ifsuch disasters overtake me, surely Yahweh my God cannot be with me?"	17 Si infiammerà la mia ira contro di lui in quel giorno: li abbandonerò, nasconderò loro la mia faccia, perché siano divorati; lo colpiranno molti mali e avversità. Dirà in quel giorno: "Non mi hanno forse colpito questi mali perché il mio Dio non è più in mezzo a me?".
18 Yes indeed, I shall hide my face that day, on account of al the evil which they wil have done byturning to other gods.	18 Io nasconderò completamente la mia faccia in quel giorno a causa di tutto il male che farà rivolgendosi ad altri dèi.
19 'Now write down this song for you to use; teach it to the Israelites, put it into their mouths, for it to bea witness on my behalf against the Israelites:	19 Ora scrivete questo cantico e insegnatelo ai figli d'Israele: mettilo sulla loro bocca affinché questo cantico mi sia di testimonio contro i figli d'Israele.
20 against Israel, whom I am bringing into the country which I swore to his ancestors that I would givehim, a country flowing with milk and honey: against Israel, who wil eat to his heart's content and grow fat, andwil then turn to other gods and serve them, despising me and breaking my covenant.	20 Quando lo avrò condotto alla terra che ho giurato ai suoi padri, dove scorre latte e miele, dopo che avrà mangiato, si sarà saziato e ingrassato, si volgerà ad altri dèi e li serviranno; disprezzeranno me e romperanno la mia alleanza.
21 When a host of disasters and misfortunes overtakes him, this song, like a witness, wil give evidenceagainst him, since his descendants wil not have forgotten it. Yes, even today, before I have brought him to thecountry which I have promised him on oath, I know what plans he has in mind.'	21 Ma quando lo avranno colpito molti mali e avversità, questo cantico sarà testimonio contro di lui, poiché non sarà dimenticato dalla sua discendenza. Conosco infatti i disegni che egli va formando oggi, prima ancora che lo conduca nella terra che ho promesso con giuramento ai suoi padri".
22 So, that day, Moses wrote out this song and taught it to the Israelites.	22 Mosè scrisse questo cantico in quel giorno e lo insegnò ai figli d'Israele.
23 To Joshua son of Nun, Yahweh gave this order, 'Be strong and stand firm, for you are to be the oneto bring the Israelites into the country which I have promised them on oath, and I myself shall be with you.'	23 Poi il Signore comunicò i suoi ordini a Giosuè, figlio di Nun e gli disse: "Sii forte, sii valoroso! Perché tu condurrai i figli d'Israele nella terra che io ho promesso loro con giuramento. Io sarò con te".
24 When Moses had completely finished writing the words of this Law in a book,	24 Quando Mosè ebbe finito di scrivere su un libro tutte le parole di questa legge,
25 he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of Yahweh's covenant:	25 ordinò ai leviti, che portavano l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore:
26 'Take the book of this Law and put it beside the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your God. Let it liethere as evidence against you.	26 "Prendete il libro di questa legge e mettetelo a fianco dell'arca dell'alleanza del Signore vostro Dio: vi resterà come testimonio contro di te.
27 For I know how rebel ious and stiff-necked you are. If today, while I am stil alive and with you, yourebel against Yahweh, how much more wil you rebel against him after my death!	27 Perché io conosco il tuo spirito ribelle e la tua dura cervice. Ecco, oggi mentre io sono ancora vivo con voi, voi siete ribelli verso il Signore; quanto più dopo la mia morte!
28 'Gather al your tribal elders and scribes round me, so that I may be sure that they hear these words,as I cal heaven and earth to witness against them.	28 Radunate presso di me tutti gli anziani delle vostre tribù e i vostri scribi: pronuncerò alle loro orecchie queste parole e chiamerò a testimoniare contro di loro il cielo e la terra.
29 For I know that after my death you are certain to grow corrupt; you wil leave the way which I havemarked out for you; in the final days disaster wil befal you for having done what is evil in Yahweh's eyes, forhaving provoked his anger by your behaviour.'	29 Perché so che dopo la mia morte certamente prevaricherete e devierete dalle vie che vi ho ordinato; negli ultimi giorni il male vi coglierà, perché farete il male agli occhi del Signore, per irritarlo con l'opera delle vostre mani".
30 In the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel, Moses then recited the words of this song to the end:	30 Allora Mosè recitò a tutta l'assemblea di Israele le parole di questo cantico, fino al termine:
