Deuteronomy 31

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 Moses went and spoke to all Israel as follows,	1 Andò adunque Mosè, e dichiarò tutte queste cose a tutto quanto Israele,
2 'Today, I am one hundred and twenty years old, and can no longer act as leader. Yahweh has toldme, "You shal not cross this Jordan."	2 E disse loro: Io sono oggi in età di cento venti anni, non posso più andare, e venire, particolarmente avendomi detto il Signore: Tu non passerai questo fiume Giordano.
3 Yahweh your God himself will lead you across, he himself wil destroy and dispossess these nationsconfronting you; Joshua too wil lead you across, as Yahweh has said.	3 Il Signore Dio tuo andrà adunque innanzi a te: egli sterminerà al tuo ingresso tutte queste nazioni, e tu avrai il loro dominio, e questo Giosuè passerà innanzi a te, come ha detto il Signore.
4 Yahweh wil treat them as he has treated Sihon and Og the Amorite kings and their country -- hedestroyed them.	4 E il Signore farà a quelle genti, come fece a Sehon, e ad Og regi degli Amorrhei e al loro paese, e le sterminerà.
5 Yahweh wil put them at your mercy, and you wil deal with them exactly as prescribed by thecommandments which I have laid down for you.	5 Quando adunque anche queste avrà egli date in vostro potere, voi farete riguardo ad esse, come io vi ho ordinato.
6 Be strong, stand firm, have no fear, do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is going with you;he wil not fail you or desert you.'	6 Fatevi cuore, siate costanti; non vi prenda timore, o sbigottimento al cospetto di esse: perocché il Signore Dio tuo egli è tuo condottiere, e non ti lascerà, e non ti abbandonerà.
7 Moses then summoned Joshua and, in the presence of al Israel, said to him, 'Be strong, stand firm;you wil be the one to go with this people into the country which Yahweh has sworn to their ancestors that hewould give them; you are to be the one who puts them into possession of it.	7 E Mosè chiamò Giosuè, e alla presenza di tutto Israele gli disse: Fatti coraggio, e prendi vigore: perocché tu introdurrai questo popolo nella terra che il Signore giurò di dare ai padri loro, e tu la dividerai a sorte.
8 Yahweh himself will lead you; he wil be with you; he will not fail you or desert you. Have no fear, donot be alarmed.'	8 E il Signore che è vostro condottiere, sarà egli con te: non ti lascerà, e non ti abbandonerà: non temere, e non isbigottirti.
9 Moses committed this Law to writing and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark ofYahweh's covenant, and to al the elders of Israel.	9 Scrisse adunque Mosè questa legge, e la diede ai sacerdoti figliuoli di Levi, i quali portavano l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore, e a tutti i seniori d'Israele.
10 And Moses gave them this command, 'At the end of every seven years, at the time fixed for the yearof remission, at the feast of Shelters,	10 E ordinò loro, e disse: Ogni sette anni, nell'anno di remissione alla solennità de' tabernacoli,
11 when all Israel assembles in the presence of Yahweh your God in the place chosen by him, you mustproclaim this Law in the hearing of al Israel.	11 Raunato tutto Israele per presentarsi al cospetto del Signore Dio tuo, nel luogo eletto dal Signore leggerai le parole di questa legge dinanzi a tutto Israele, il quale ascolterà.
12 Cal the people together, men, women, children, and the foreigner residing with you, so that, hearingit, they may learn to fear Yahweh your God and keep and observe al the words of this Law.	12 Raunati tutti insieme tanto uomini, come donne, e i ragazzi, e i forestieri che abitano nelle tue città: affinché udendo imparino a temere il Signore Dio vostro, e custodiscano, e adempiano tutte le parole di questa legge:
13 Their children, who as yet do not know it, wil hear it and learn to fear Yahweh your God, all the timeyou live in the country which you are crossing the Jordan to possess.'	13 E affinché anche i vostri figliuoli che ora non intendono, possano udire, e temano il Signore Dio loro per tutti i giorni, che staranno nella terra, della quale andate a prender possesso, passato il Giordano.
14 Yahweh said to Moses, 'And now the time is near when you must die. Summon Joshua and takeyour places at the Tent of Meeting, so that I can give him his orders.' Moses and Joshua went and took theirplaces at the Tent of Meeting,	14 E il Signore disse a Mosè: Si avvicina ormai il giorno della tua morte: chiama Giosuè, e tenetevi nel tabernacolo del testamento, affinché io gli dia ordini. Andarono adunque Mosè, e Giosuè, e si fermarono nel tabernacolo del testamento:
15 and Yahweh showed himself at the Tent in a pil ar of cloud; the pil ar of cloud stood at the door of theTent.	15 E il Signore ivi apparve nella colonna della nuvola, la quale si posò all'ingresso del tabernacolo.
16 Yahweh said to Moses, 'You will soon be sleeping with your ancestors, and this people is about toplay the harlot by fol owing the gods of the foreigners of the country, among whom they are going to live. Theywil desert me and break my covenant, which I have made with them.	16 E il Signore disse a Mosè: Ecco che tu ti addormirai co' padri tuoi, e questo popolo si leverà su, e peccherà cogli dei stranieri nella terra, in cui entra per abitarvi: ivi mi abbandonerà, e violerà il patto fermato con lui da me.
17 That very day, my anger wil blaze against them; I shal desert them and hide my face from them. Ahost of disasters and misfortunes will overtake them to devour them, and when that day comes they wil say, "Ifsuch disasters overtake me, surely Yahweh my God cannot be with me?"	17 E il mio furore si accenderà contro di lui in quel giorno: e io lo abbandonerò, e nasconderò a lui la mia faccia, ed ei sarà dato in preda: e cadranno sopra di lui tutti i mali, e sciagure, talmente che dirà egli in quel dì: Veramente perché Dio non è meco, mi son venuti addosso tutti questi mali.
18 Yes indeed, I shall hide my face that day, on account of al the evil which they wil have done byturning to other gods.	18 E io asconderò, e celerò a lui in quel dì la mia faccia a causa di tutti i mali fatti da lui in andando dietro agli dei stranieri.
19 'Now write down this song for you to use; teach it to the Israelites, put it into their mouths, for it to bea witness on my behalf against the Israelites:	19 Adesso pertanto scrivete voi questo cantico, e insegnatelo a' figliuoli d'Israele, affinché lo imparino a memoria, e lo cantino; e questo cantico sia una testimonianza per me tra’ figliuoli d'Israele.
20 against Israel, whom I am bringing into the country which I swore to his ancestors that I would givehim, a country flowing with milk and honey: against Israel, who wil eat to his heart's content and grow fat, andwil then turn to other gods and serve them, despising me and breaking my covenant.	20 Perocché io gl'introdurró nella terra che scorre latte, e miele, promessa da me con giuramento a' padri loro. Ed eglino quando avranno mangiato, e saranno satolli, e ingrassati, si rivolgeranno agli dei stranieri, e li serviranno: e parleranno contro di me, e violeranno il mio patto.
21 When a host of disasters and misfortunes overtakes him, this song, like a witness, wil give evidenceagainst him, since his descendants wil not have forgotten it. Yes, even today, before I have brought him to thecountry which I have promised him on oath, I know what plans he has in mind.'	21 E allora quando saran caduti sopra di lui molti mali, e sciagure, parlerà contro di essi qual testimone questo cantico, il quale essendo nelle bocche dei loro figliuoli, non sarà mai dimenticato. Imperocché io so i suoi pensieri, e quello ch'ei farà oggi, prima che io lo introduca nella terra, che gli ho promesso.
22 So, that day, Moses wrote out this song and taught it to the Israelites.	22 Scrisse adunque Mosè il cantico, e lo insegnò ai figliuoli d’Israele.
23 To Joshua son of Nun, Yahweh gave this order, 'Be strong and stand firm, for you are to be the oneto bring the Israelites into the country which I have promised them on oath, and I myself shall be with you.'	23 E il Signore ordinò, e disse a Giosuè figliuolo di Nun: Fatti coraggio, e prendi vigore, imperocché tu introdurrai i figliuoli d'Israele nella terra che io loro promisi, e io sarò teco.
24 When Moses had completely finished writing the words of this Law in a book,	24 Quando adunque Mosè ebbe finito di scrivere in un libro le parole di questa legge,
25 he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of Yahweh's covenant:	25 Ordinò, e disse ai Leviti, i quali portavan l'arca del testamento del Signore:
26 'Take the book of this Law and put it beside the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your God. Let it liethere as evidence against you.	26 Prendete questo libro, e mettetelo in un lato dell'arca del testamento del Signore Dio vostro; affinché ivi rimanga qual testimone contro di te (o Israele):
27 For I know how rebel ious and stiff-necked you are. If today, while I am stil alive and with you, yourebel against Yahweh, how much more wil you rebel against him after my death!	27 Imperocché io conosco la tua contumacia, e la durezza grande della tua testa. Tuttora vivendo io, e conversando con voi, sempre voi altercaste contro il Signore: quanto più allorché io sarò morto?
28 'Gather al your tribal elders and scribes round me, so that I may be sure that they hear these words,as I cal heaven and earth to witness against them.	28 Raunate dinanzi a me tutti i seniori di ciascheduna delle vostre tribù, e i dottori; e io esporrò dinanzi a loro le mie parole, e invocherò contro di essi il cielo, e la terra.
29 For I know that after my death you are certain to grow corrupt; you wil leave the way which I havemarked out for you; in the final days disaster wil befal you for having done what is evil in Yahweh's eyes, forhaving provoked his anger by your behaviour.'	29 Perocché io so, come voi dopo la mia morte vi porterete iniquamente, e uscirete ben presto fuori della strada, che io vi ho insegnata: e vi avverranno molti mali negli ultimi tempi, allorché avrete fatto il male al cospetto del Signore, provocandolo a sdegno colle opere delle vostre mani.
30 In the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel, Moses then recited the words of this song to the end:	30 Intonò adunque Mosè, e recitò sino al fine le parole di questo cantico, stando l'adunanza tutta d'Israele ad ascoltarlo.
