Deuteronomy 31

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Moses went and spoke to all Israel as follows,	1 Moisés acabó diciendo estas palabras a todo Israel:
2 'Today, I am one hundred and twenty years old, and can no longer act as leader. Yahweh has toldme, "You shal not cross this Jordan."	2 «He cumplido 120 años. Ya no puedo salir ni entrar. Y Yahveh me ha dicho: Tú no pasarás este Jordán.
3 Yahweh your God himself will lead you across, he himself wil destroy and dispossess these nationsconfronting you; Joshua too wil lead you across, as Yahweh has said.	3 Yahveh tu Dios pasará delante de ti, él destruirá ante ti esas naciones y las desalojará. Será Josué quien pasará delante de ti, como ha dicho Yahveh.
4 Yahweh wil treat them as he has treated Sihon and Og the Amorite kings and their country -- hedestroyed them.	4 Yahveh las tratará como trató a Sijón y a Og, reyes amorreos, y a su país, a los cuales destruyó.
5 Yahweh wil put them at your mercy, and you wil deal with them exactly as prescribed by thecommandments which I have laid down for you.	5 Yahveh os los entregará, y vosotros los trataréis exactamente conforme a la orden que yo os he dado.
6 Be strong, stand firm, have no fear, do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is going with you;he wil not fail you or desert you.'	6 ¡Sed fuertes y valerosos!, no temáis ni os asustéis ante ellos, porque Yahveh tu Dios marcha contigo: no te dejará ni te abandonará».
7 Moses then summoned Joshua and, in the presence of al Israel, said to him, 'Be strong, stand firm;you wil be the one to go with this people into the country which Yahweh has sworn to their ancestors that hewould give them; you are to be the one who puts them into possession of it.	7 Después Moisés llamó a Josué y le dijo en presencia de todo Israel: «¡Se fuerte y valeroso!, tú entrarás con este pueblo en la tierra que Yahveh juró dar a sus padres, y tú se la darás en posesión.
8 Yahweh himself will lead you; he wil be with you; he will not fail you or desert you. Have no fear, donot be alarmed.'	8 Yahveh marchará delante de ti, él estará contigo; no te dejará ni te abandonará. No temas ni te asustes».
9 Moses committed this Law to writing and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark ofYahweh's covenant, and to al the elders of Israel.	9 Moisés puso esta Ley por escrito y se la dio a los sacerdotes, hijos de Leví, que llevaban el arca de la alianza de Yahveh, así como a todos los ancianos de Israel.
10 And Moses gave them this command, 'At the end of every seven years, at the time fixed for the yearof remission, at the feast of Shelters,	10 Y Moisés les dio esta orden: «Cada siete años, tiempo fijado para el año de la Remisión, en la fiesta de las Tiendas,
11 when all Israel assembles in the presence of Yahweh your God in the place chosen by him, you mustproclaim this Law in the hearing of al Israel.	11 cuando todo Israel acuda, para ver el rostro de Yahveh tu Dios, al lugar elegido por él, leerás esta Ley a oídos de todo Israel.
12 Cal the people together, men, women, children, and the foreigner residing with you, so that, hearingit, they may learn to fear Yahweh your God and keep and observe al the words of this Law.	12 Congrega al pueblo, hombres, mujeres y niños, y al forastero que vive en tus ciudades, para que oigan, aprendan a temer a Yahveh vuestro Dios, y cuiden de poner en práctica todas las palabras de esta Ley.
13 Their children, who as yet do not know it, wil hear it and learn to fear Yahweh your God, all the timeyou live in the country which you are crossing the Jordan to possess.'	13 Y sus hijos, que todavía no la conocen, la oirán y aprenderán a temer a Yahveh vuestro Dios todos los días que viváis en el suelo que vais a tomar en posesión al pasar el Jordán».
14 Yahweh said to Moses, 'And now the time is near when you must die. Summon Joshua and takeyour places at the Tent of Meeting, so that I can give him his orders.' Moses and Joshua went and took theirplaces at the Tent of Meeting,	14 Yahveh dijo a Moisés: «Ya se acerca el día de tu muerte; llama a Josué y presentaos en la Tienda del Encuentro, para que yo le dé mis órdenes». Fue, pues, Moisés con Josué a presentarse en la Tienda del Encuentro.
15 and Yahweh showed himself at the Tent in a pil ar of cloud; the pil ar of cloud stood at the door of theTent.	15 Y Yahveh se apareció en la Tienda, en una columna de nube; la columna de nube estaba parada a la entrada de la Tienda.
16 Yahweh said to Moses, 'You will soon be sleeping with your ancestors, and this people is about toplay the harlot by fol owing the gods of the foreigners of the country, among whom they are going to live. Theywil desert me and break my covenant, which I have made with them.	16 Yahveh dijo a Moisés: «He aquí que vas a acostarte con tus padres, y este pueblo se levantará para prostituirse yendo en pos de dioses extraños, los de la tierra en la que va a entrar. Me abandonará y romperá mi alianza, que yo he concluido con él.
17 That very day, my anger wil blaze against them; I shal desert them and hide my face from them. Ahost of disasters and misfortunes will overtake them to devour them, and when that day comes they wil say, "Ifsuch disasters overtake me, surely Yahweh my God cannot be with me?"	17 Aquel día montaré en cólera contra él, los abandonaré y les ocultaré mi rostro. Será pasto y presa de un sinfin de males y adversidades, de suerte que dirá aquel día: «¿No me habrán llegado estos males porque mi Dios no está en medio de mí?»
18 Yes indeed, I shall hide my face that day, on account of al the evil which they wil have done byturning to other gods.	18 Pero yo ocultaré mi rostro aquel día, a causa de todo el mal que habrá hecho, yéndose en pos de otros dioses.
19 'Now write down this song for you to use; teach it to the Israelites, put it into their mouths, for it to bea witness on my behalf against the Israelites:	19 «Y ahora escribid para vuestro uso el cántico siguiente; ensénaselo a los israelitas, ponlo en su boca para que este cántico me sirva de testimonio contra los israelitas,
20 against Israel, whom I am bringing into the country which I swore to his ancestors that I would givehim, a country flowing with milk and honey: against Israel, who wil eat to his heart's content and grow fat, andwil then turn to other gods and serve them, despising me and breaking my covenant.	20 cuando yo les lleve a la tierra que bajo juramento prometí a sus padres, tierra que mana leche y miel, y ellos, después de comer hasta hartarse y engordar bien, se vuelvan hacia otros dioses, les den culto, y a mí me desprecien y rompan mi alianza.
21 When a host of disasters and misfortunes overtakes him, this song, like a witness, wil give evidenceagainst him, since his descendants wil not have forgotten it. Yes, even today, before I have brought him to thecountry which I have promised him on oath, I know what plans he has in mind.'	21 Y cuando les alcancen males y adversidades sin número, este cántico dará testimonio contra él, porque no caerá en olvido en la boca de su descendencia. Pues sé muy bien los planes que está tramando hoy, incluso antes de haberle introducido en la tierra que le tengo prometida bajo juramento».
22 So, that day, Moses wrote out this song and taught it to the Israelites.	22 Y Moisés escribió aquel día este cántico y se lo enseño a los israelitas.
23 To Joshua son of Nun, Yahweh gave this order, 'Be strong and stand firm, for you are to be the oneto bring the Israelites into the country which I have promised them on oath, and I myself shall be with you.'	23 Luego dio esta orden a Josué, hijo de Nun: «¡Sé fuerte y valeroso!, porque tú llevarás a los israelitas a la tierra que yo les tengo prometida bajo juramento, y yo estaré contigo».
24 When Moses had completely finished writing the words of this Law in a book,	24 Cuando terminó de escribir en un libro las palabras de esta Ley hasta el fin,
25 he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of Yahweh's covenant:	25 Moisés dio esta orden a los levitas que llevaban el arca de la alianza de Yahveh:
26 'Take the book of this Law and put it beside the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your God. Let it liethere as evidence against you.	26 «Tomad el libro de esta Ley. Ponedlo al lado del arca de la alianza de Yahveh vuestro Dios. Ahí quedará como testimonio contra ti.
27 For I know how rebel ious and stiff-necked you are. If today, while I am stil alive and with you, yourebel against Yahweh, how much more wil you rebel against him after my death!	27 Porque conozco tu rebeldía y tu dura cerviz. Si hoy, que vivo todavía entre vosotros, sois rebeldes a Yahveh, ¡cuánto más lo seréis después de mi muerte!»
28 'Gather al your tribal elders and scribes round me, so that I may be sure that they hear these words,as I cal heaven and earth to witness against them.	28 «Congregad junto a mí a todos los ancianos de vuestras tribus y a vuestros escribas, que voy a pronunciar a sus oídos estas palabras, poniendo por testigos contra ellos al cielo y a la tierra.
29 For I know that after my death you are certain to grow corrupt; you wil leave the way which I havemarked out for you; in the final days disaster wil befal you for having done what is evil in Yahweh's eyes, forhaving provoked his anger by your behaviour.'	29 Porque sé que después de mi muerte no dejaréis de pervertiros; os apartaréis del camino que os he prescrito; y la desgracia vendrá sobre vosotros en el futuro, por haber hecho lo que es malo a los ojos de Yahveh, irritándole con vuestras obras».
30 In the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel, Moses then recited the words of this song to the end:	30 Luego, a oídos de toda la asamblea de Israel, Moisés pronunció hasta el fin las palabras de este cantico:
