Deuteronomy 21

1 'If, in the country which Yahweh your God gives you as your possession, a victim of murder is foundlying in the open country and it is not known who has kil ed that person,	1 Quando nella terra, che il Signore Dio tuo ti darà, avvenga che si trovi il cadavere d'un uomo ucciso, senza che sappiasi il reo dell'omicidio,
2 your elders and scribes must measure the distance between the victim and the surrounding towns,	2 Andranno i seniori tuoi, e i giudici, e misureranno le distanze di tutte le città, che sono all’intorno del luogo, dov'è il cadavere:
3 and establish which town is the nearest to the victim. The elders of that town must then take a heiferthat has not yet been put to work or used as a draught animal under the yoke.	3 E i seniori di quella città, che troverassi essere più vicina, prenderanno una vitella di branco, che non avrà portato giogo, né rotta terra coll’aratro,
4 The elders of that town must bring the heifer down to a permanently flowing river, to a spot that hasbeen neither ploughed nor sown, and there by the river they must break the heifer's neck.	4 E la condurranno in una valle incolta, e sassosa, la quale non sia stata arata giammai, né seminata: e ivi taglieranno il capo alla vitella:
5 The priests, the sons of Levi, wil then step forward, these being the men whom Yahweh your God haschosen to serve him and to bless in Yahweh's name, and it being their business to settle al cases of dispute orof violence.	5 E si accosteranno i sacerdoti figliuoli di Levi eletti dal Signore Dio tuo pel suo ministero, e per dar la benedizione nel nome di lui, secondo il giudizio de’ quali si finisce ogni affare, e si determina quel che sia mondo, o immondo;
6 Al the elders of the town nearest to the victim of murder must then wash their hands in the stream,over the slaughtered heifer.	6 E si accosteranno i seniori della città al corpo morto, e laveranno le loro mani sopra la vitella uccisa nella valle,
7 They must pronounce these words, "Our hands have not shed this blood and our eyes have seennothing.	7 E diranno: Le nostre mani non hanno sparso questo sangue, né gli occhi nostri han veduto:
8 O Yahweh, forgive your people Israel whom you have redeemed, and let no innocent blood be shedamong your people Israel. May this bloodshed be forgiven them!"	8 Sii propizio al tuo popolo d'Israele riscattato da te, o Signore, e questo sangue innocente non sia sopra il popol tuo d'Israele. Così non saranno più rei del sangue.
9 You must banish all shedding of innocent blood from among you, if you mean to do what is right in theeyes of Yahweh.	9 E tu non renderai conto del sangue sparso dall'innocente, quando avrai fatto quel che ha comandato il Signore.
10 'When you go to war against your enemies and Yahweh your God delivers them into your power andyou take prisoners,	10 Se tu sarai andato a combattere contro de' tuoi nimici, e il Signore Dio tuo gli avrà dati nelle tue mani, e gli avrai fatti prigionieri,
11 and among the prisoners you see a beautiful woman, and you fal in love with her, and you take herto be your wife	11 E vedendo nel numero de' prigionieri una bella donna, le porrai affetto, e bramerai di averla per moglie:
12 and bring her home; she must shave her head and cut her nails,	12 Tu la menerai a casa tua, ed ella si toserà la chioma, e si taglierà le unghie,
13 and take off her prisoner's garb; she must stay inside your house and mourn her father and motherfor a full month. You may then go to her and be a husband to her, and she wil be your wife.	13 E deporrà il vestito, col quale fu presa, e standosi in casa tua piangerà il padre, e la madre sua per un mese: e dipoi tu sarai suo marito, ed ella sarà tua moglie.
14 Should she cease to please you, you wil let her go where she wishes, not sel ing her for money: youmust not make any profit out of her, since you have exploited her.	14 Che se in appresso non ti desse più nel genio, la rimanderai libera, e non potrai venderla per denaro, né opprimerla con prepotenza, perché tu la umiliasti.
15 'If a man has two wives, one loved and the other unloved, and the loved one and the unloved bothbear him children, and if the first-born son is of the unloved wife,	15 Se un uomo avrà due mogli, l'una amata, l’altra malveduta, ed elle abbiano avuto da lui de’ figliuoli, e il figlio di quella che è mal veduta sia il primogenito,
16 when the man comes to bequeath his goods to his sons, he may not treat the son of the wife whomhe loves as the first-born, at the expense of the son of the wife whom he does not love, the true first-born.	16 Se ei vorrà dividere i suoi beni tra' suoi figliuoli, non potrà far primogenito il figliuolo della sua diletta, e preferirlo al figliuolo della malveduta:
17 As his first-born he must acknowledge the son of the wife whom he does not love, giving him adouble share of his estate; this son being the first-fruit of his vigour, the right of the first-born is his.	17 Ma riconoscerà il figliuolo della malveduta per primogenito, e daragli una doppia porzione di tutto quello che ha: perocché egli è il primo de' suoi figliuoli, e a lui appartiene il diritto di primogenitura.
18 'If a man has a stubborn and rebel ious son who wil not listen to the voice either of his father or of hismother and, even when they punish him, still wil not pay attention to them,	18 Se un uomo avrà generata un figliuolo contumace, e protervo, che non ascolta i comandi del padre, o della madre, e gastigato dispettosamente ricusa di obbedire:
19 his father and mother must take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his town at the gate ofthat place.	19 Ei lo prenderanno, e lo condurranno davanti a' seniori di quella città, alla porta, dove si tien ragione,
20 To the elders of his town, they wil say, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebel ious and will not listento us; he is a wastrel and a drunkard."	20 E diranno loro: Questo nostro figliuolo è protervo, e contumace, si fa beffe delle nostre ammonizioni, non pensa ad altro, che a bagordi, dissolutezze, e conviti:
21 Al his fel ow-citizens must then stone him to death. You must banish this evil from among you. AlIsrael, hearing of this, wil be afraid.	21 Allora il popolo della città lo lapiderà, ed ei morrà, affinché sia tolta di mezzo a voi l'iniquità, è tutto Israele udendo ciò sia in timore.
22 'If a man guilty of a capital offence is to be put to death, and you hang him from a tree,	22 Quando un uomo avrà fatto un peccato da punirsi colla morte, e condannato a morire sarà stato appeso al patibolo,
23 his body must not remain on the tree overnight; you must bury him the same day, since anyonehanged is a curse of God, and you must not bring pollution on the soil which Yahweh your God is giving you asyour heritage.'	23 Non rimarrà sul legno il suo cadavere, ma sarà sepolto lo stesso dì: perocché è maledetto da Dio, chiunque è appeso al legno: e tu non dei contaminar quella terra, di cui il Signore Dio tuo ti avrà dato il possesso.
