Deuteronomy 21

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 'If, in the country which Yahweh your God gives you as your possession, a victim of murder is foundlying in the open country and it is not known who has kil ed that person,	1 Si en el suelo que Yahveh tu Dios te da en posesión se descubre un hombre muerto, tendido en el campo, sin que se sepa quién lo mató,
2 your elders and scribes must measure the distance between the victim and the surrounding towns,	2 tus ancianos y tus escribas irán a medir la distancia entre la víctima y las ciudades de alrededor.
3 and establish which town is the nearest to the victim. The elders of that town must then take a heiferthat has not yet been put to work or used as a draught animal under the yoke.	3 Los ancianos de la ciudad que resulte más próxima al muerto, tomarán una becerra a la que no se le haya hecho todavía trabajar ni llevar el yugo.
4 The elders of that town must bring the heifer down to a permanently flowing river, to a spot that hasbeen neither ploughed nor sown, and there by the river they must break the heifer's neck.	4 Los ancianos de esa ciudad bajarán la becerra a un torrente de agua perenne, donde no se haya arado ni se siembre, y allí, en el torrente, romperán la nuca de la becerra.
5 The priests, the sons of Levi, wil then step forward, these being the men whom Yahweh your God haschosen to serve him and to bless in Yahweh's name, and it being their business to settle al cases of dispute orof violence.	5 Se adelantarán entonces los sacerdotes hijos de Leví; porque a ellos ha eligido Yahveh tu Dios para estar a su servicio y para dar la bendición en el nombre de Yahveh, y a su decisión corresponde resolver toto litigio y toda causa de lesiones.
6 Al the elders of the town nearest to the victim of murder must then wash their hands in the stream,over the slaughtered heifer.	6 Todos los ancianos de la ciudad mas proxima al hombre muerto se lavarán las manos en el torrente, sobre la becerra desnucada.
7 They must pronounce these words, "Our hands have not shed this blood and our eyes have seennothing.	7 Y pronunciarán estas palabras: «Nuestras manos no han derramado esa sangre y nuestros ojos no han visto nada.
8 O Yahweh, forgive your people Israel whom you have redeemed, and let no innocent blood be shedamong your people Israel. May this bloodshed be forgiven them!"	8 Cubre a Israel tu pueblo, tú Yahveh que lo rescataste, y no dejes que se derrame sangre inocente en medio de tu pueblo Israel». Así quedarán a cubierto de esa sangre,
9 You must banish all shedding of innocent blood from among you, if you mean to do what is right in theeyes of Yahweh.	9 y tú habrás quitado de en medio de ti la sangre inocente, haciendo lo que es justo a los ojos de Yahveh.
10 'When you go to war against your enemies and Yahweh your God delivers them into your power andyou take prisoners,	10 Cuando vayas a la guerra contra tus enemigos, y Yahveh tu Dios los entregue en tus manos y te lleves sus cautivos,
11 and among the prisoners you see a beautiful woman, and you fal in love with her, and you take herto be your wife	11 si ves entre ellos una mujer hermosa, te prendas de ella y quieres tomarla por mujer,
12 and bring her home; she must shave her head and cut her nails,	12 la llevarás a tu casa. Ella se rapará la cabeza y se hará las uñas,
13 and take off her prisoner's garb; she must stay inside your house and mourn her father and motherfor a full month. You may then go to her and be a husband to her, and she wil be your wife.	13 se quitará su vestido de cautiva y quedará en tu casa llorando a su padre y a su madre un mes entero. Después de esto podrás llegarte a ella, y serás su marido y ella será tu mujer.
14 Should she cease to please you, you wil let her go where she wishes, not sel ing her for money: youmust not make any profit out of her, since you have exploited her.	14 Si más tarde resulta que ya no la quieres, la dejarás marchar en libertad, y no podrás venderla por dinero, ni hacerla tu esclava, por cuanto la has humillado.
15 'If a man has two wives, one loved and the other unloved, and the loved one and the unloved bothbear him children, and if the first-born son is of the unloved wife,	15 Si un hombre tiene dos mujeres a una de las cuales ama y a la otra no, y tanto la mujer amada como la otra le dan hijos, si resulta que el primogénito es de la mujer a quien no ama,
16 when the man comes to bequeath his goods to his sons, he may not treat the son of the wife whomhe loves as the first-born, at the expense of the son of the wife whom he does not love, the true first-born.	16 el día que reparta la herencia entre sus hijos no podrá dar el derecho de primogenitura al hijo de la mujer que ama, en perjuicio del hijo de la mujer que no ama, que es el primogénito.
17 As his first-born he must acknowledge the son of the wife whom he does not love, giving him adouble share of his estate; this son being the first-fruit of his vigour, the right of the first-born is his.	17 Sino que reconocerá como primogénito al hijo de ésta, dándole una parte doble de todo lo que posee: porque este hijo, primicias de su vigor, tiene derecho de primogenitura.
18 'If a man has a stubborn and rebel ious son who wil not listen to the voice either of his father or of hismother and, even when they punish him, still wil not pay attention to them,	18 Si un hombre tiene un hijo rebelde y díscolo, que no escucha la voz de su padre ni la voz de su madre, y que, castigado por ellos, no por eso les escucha,
19 his father and mother must take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his town at the gate ofthat place.	19 su padre y su madre le agarrarán y le llevarán afuera donde los ancianos de su ciudad, a la puerta del lugar.
20 To the elders of his town, they wil say, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebel ious and will not listento us; he is a wastrel and a drunkard."	20 Dirán a los ancianos de su ciudad: «Este hijo nuestro es rebelde y díscolo, y no nos escucha, es un libertino y un borracho».
21 Al his fel ow-citizens must then stone him to death. You must banish this evil from among you. AlIsrael, hearing of this, wil be afraid.	21 Y todos los hombres de su ciudad le apedrearán hasta que muera. Así harás desaparecer el mal de en medio de ti, y todo Israel, al saberlo, temerá.
22 'If a man guilty of a capital offence is to be put to death, and you hang him from a tree,	22 Si un hombre, reo de delito capital, ha sido ejecutado y le has colgado de un árbol,
23 his body must not remain on the tree overnight; you must bury him the same day, since anyonehanged is a curse of God, and you must not bring pollution on the soil which Yahweh your God is giving you asyour heritage.'	23 no dejarás que su cadáver pase la noche en el árbol; lo enterrarás el mismo día, porque un colgado es una maldición de Dios. Así no harás impuro el suelo que Yahveh tu Dios te da en herencia.
