Deuteronomy 13

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 'Whatever I am now commanding you, you must keep and observe, adding nothing to it, takingnothing away.	1 Practiquen cuidadosamente todo lo que yo les ordeno, sin añadir ni quitar nada.
2 'If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you, offering you some sign or wonder,	2 Si surge en medio de ustedes un profeta o un intérprete de sueños, que te propone un signo o un prodigio,
3 and the sign or wonder comes about; and if he then says to you, "Let us follow other gods (hithertounknown to you) and serve them,"	3 y te dice: «Vamos detrás de otros dioses –que tú no conoces– para rendirles culto», aunque se cumplan el signo o el prodigio,
4 you must not listen to that prophet's words or to that dreamer's dreams. Yahweh your God is testingyou to know if you love Yahweh your God with all your heart and al your soul.	4 no hagas caso de las palabras de ese profeta o de los sueños de ese visionario. Porque el Señor, su Dios, los pone a prueba para ver si ustedes lo aman realmente con todo su corazón y con toda su alma.
5 Yahweh your God is the one whom you must fol ow, him you must fear, his commandments you mustkeep, his voice you must obey, him you must serve, to him you must hold fast.	5 Sigan al Señor, su Dios. Témanlo y observen sus mandamientos, escuchen su voz, sírvanlo y sean fieles a él.
6 That prophet or that dreamer of dreams must be put to death, since he has preached apostasy fromYahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the place of slave-labour; and he wouldhave diverted you from the way in which Yahweh your God has commanded you to walk. You must banish thisevil from among you.	6 Y ese profeta o ese intérprete de sueños deberá ser castigado con la muerte, por haber incitado a la rebelión contra el Señor, tu Dios –el que te hizo salir de Egipto y te rescató de la esclavitud– para desviarte del camino por donde el te ordenó que fueras. Así harás desaparecer el mal de entre ustedes.
7 'If your brother, the son of your father or of your mother, or your son or daughter, or the spouse whomyou embrace, or your most intimate friend, tries secretly to seduce you, saying, "Let us go and serve othergods," unknown to you or your ancestors before you,	7 Si tu hermano –el hijo de tu padre o de tu madre– tu hijo o tu hija, la esposa que duerme en tus brazos, o tu amigo más íntimo, trata de seducirte en secreto, diciendo: «Vamos a servir a otros dioses», que ni tú ni tus padres conocieron
8 gods of the peoples surrounding you, whether near you or far away, anywhere throughout the world,	8 –los dioses de los pueblos próximos o lejanos que están a tu alrededor, de un extremo al otro de la tierra–
9 you must not consent, you must not listen to him; you must show him no pity, you must not spare himor conceal his guilt.	9 no cedas a sus instigaciones ni le hagas caso. Sé implacable con él, no lo perdones ni lo encubras.
10 No, you must kil him, your hand must strike the first blow in putting him to death and the hands ofthe rest of the people following.	10 Tendrás que hacerlo morir irremediablemente. que tu mano sea la primera en levantarse contra él para quitarle la vida. y que después todo el pueblo haga lo mismo.
11 You must stone him to death, since he has tried to divert you from Yahweh your God who broughtyou out of Egypt, from the place of slave-labour.	11 Deberás apedrearlo hasta que muera, porque intento apartarte del Señor, tu Dios, que te hizo salir de Egipto, de un lugar de esclavitud.
12 Al Israel, hearing of this, wil be afraid, and none of you wil do such a wicked thing again.	12 Todo Israel, cuando se entere, sentirá temor, y no volverá a cometerse esta infamia entre ustedes.
13 'If you hear that in one of the towns which Yahweh your God has given you for a home,	13 Si de una de las ciudades que te dio el Señor, tu Dios, para que vivas en ella, te llega esta noticia:
14 there are men, scoundrels from your own stock, who have led their fel ow-citizens astray, saying,"Let us go and serve other gods," hitherto unknown to you,	14 Gente despreciable de tu misma raza ha logrado seducir a los habitantes de su ciudad, diciendo» «Vamos a servir a otros dioses» –que tú no conociste–
15 it is your duty to look into the matter, examine it, and enquire most careful y. If it is proved andconfirmed that such a hateful thing has taken place among you,	15 investiga el caso, examinalo e infórmate debidamente. Y si es verdad que la cosa es así, que se ha cometido semejante abominación,
16 you must put the inhabitants of that town to the sword; you must lay it under the curse of destruction-- the town and everything in it.	16 pasa sin compasión al filo de la espada a los habitantes de la ciudad, y conságrala al exterminio total con todo lo que hay en ella, incluido su ganado.
17 You must pile up al its loot in the public square and burn the town and al its loot, offering it al toYahweh your God. It is to be a ruin for al time, and never rebuilt.	17 Reúne luego todos sus despojos en medio de la plaza, e incendia la ciudad con todos esos despojos, como un holocausto para el Señor, tu Dios. Ella se convertirá para siempre en un montón de ruinas y nunca más será reconstruida.
18 From what is thus put under the curse of destruction you must keep nothing back, so that Yahwehmay turn from the ferocity of his anger and show you mercy, and have pity on you and increase your numbers,as he swore he would to your ancestors,	18 Y no retengas nada de lo que debe ser consagrado al exterminio. Así el Señor aplacará el ardor de su ira, se apiadará y tendrá misericordia de ti, y te multiplicará, como lo juró a tus padres,
19 on condition that you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God by keeping al his commandmentswhich I am enjoining on you today, and by doing what is right in the eyes of Yahweh your God.'	19 con tal que tú escuches la voz del Señor, tu Dios. observando los mandamientos que hoy te prescribo y haciendo lo que es recto a los ojos del Señor, tu Dios.
