Deuteronomy 13

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 'Whatever I am now commanding you, you must keep and observe, adding nothing to it, takingnothing away.	1 Todo esto que yo os mando, cuidaréis de ponerlo por obra, sin añadir ni quitar nada.
2 'If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you, offering you some sign or wonder,	2 Si surge en medio de ti un profeta o vidente en sueños, que te propone una señal o un prodigio,
3 and the sign or wonder comes about; and if he then says to you, "Let us follow other gods (hithertounknown to you) and serve them,"	3 y llega a realizarse la señal o el prodigio que te ha anunciado, y te dice: «Vamos en pos de otros dioses (que tú no conoces) a servirles»,
4 you must not listen to that prophet's words or to that dreamer's dreams. Yahweh your God is testingyou to know if you love Yahweh your God with all your heart and al your soul.	4 no escucharás las palabras de ese profeta o de ese vidente en sueños. Es que Yahveh vuestro Dios os pone a prueba para saber si verdaderamente amáis a Yahveh vuestro Dios con todo vuestro corazón y con toda vuestra alma.
5 Yahweh your God is the one whom you must fol ow, him you must fear, his commandments you mustkeep, his voice you must obey, him you must serve, to him you must hold fast.	5 A Yahveh vuestro Dios seguiréis y a él temeréis, guardaréis sus mandamientos y escucharéis su voz, a él serviréis y viviréis unidos a él.
6 That prophet or that dreamer of dreams must be put to death, since he has preached apostasy fromYahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the place of slave-labour; and he wouldhave diverted you from the way in which Yahweh your God has commanded you to walk. You must banish thisevil from among you.	6 Ese profeta o vidente en sueños deberá morir por haber predicado la rebelión contra Yahveh tu Dios - que te sacó del país de Egipto y te rescató de la casa de servidumbre - para apartarte del camino que Yahveh tu Dios te ha mandado seguir. Así harás desaparecer el mal de en medio de ti.
7 'If your brother, the son of your father or of your mother, or your son or daughter, or the spouse whomyou embrace, or your most intimate friend, tries secretly to seduce you, saying, "Let us go and serve othergods," unknown to you or your ancestors before you,	7 Si tu hermano, hijo de tu padre o hijo de tu madre, tu hijo o tu hija, la esposa que reposa en tu seno o el amigo que es tu otro yo, trata de seducirte en secreto diciéndote: «Vamos a servir a otros dioses», desconocidos de ti y de tus padres,
8 gods of the peoples surrounding you, whether near you or far away, anywhere throughout the world,	8 de entre los dioses de los pueblos próximos o lejanos que os rodean de un extremo a otro de la tierra,
9 you must not consent, you must not listen to him; you must show him no pity, you must not spare himor conceal his guilt.	9 no accederás ni le escucharás, tu ojo no tendrá piedad de él, no le perdonarás ni le encubrirás,
10 No, you must kil him, your hand must strike the first blow in putting him to death and the hands ofthe rest of the people following.	10 sino que le harás morir; tu mano caerá la primera sobre él para darle muerte, y después la mano de todo el pueblo.
11 You must stone him to death, since he has tried to divert you from Yahweh your God who broughtyou out of Egypt, from the place of slave-labour.	11 Le apedrearás hasta que muera, porque trató de apartarte de Yahveh tu Dios, el que te sacó del país de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre.
12 Al Israel, hearing of this, wil be afraid, and none of you wil do such a wicked thing again.	12 Y todo Israel, cuando lo sepa, tendrá miedo y dejará de cometer este mal en medio de ti.
13 'If you hear that in one of the towns which Yahweh your God has given you for a home,	13 Si oyes decir que en una de las ciudades que Yahveh tu Dios te da para habitar en ella
14 there are men, scoundrels from your own stock, who have led their fel ow-citizens astray, saying,"Let us go and serve other gods," hitherto unknown to you,	14 algunos hombres, malvados, salidos de tu propio seno, han seducido a sus conciudadanos diciendo: «Vamos a dar culto a otros dioses», desconocidos de vosotros,
15 it is your duty to look into the matter, examine it, and enquire most careful y. If it is proved andconfirmed that such a hateful thing has taken place among you,	15 consultarás, indagarás y preguntarás minuciosamente. Si es verdad, si se comprueba que en medio de ti se ha cometido tal abominación,
16 you must put the inhabitants of that town to the sword; you must lay it under the curse of destruction-- the town and everything in it.	16 deberás pasar a filo de espada a los habitantes de esa ciudad; la consagrarás al anatema con todo lo que haya dentro de ella;
17 You must pile up al its loot in the public square and burn the town and al its loot, offering it al toYahweh your God. It is to be a ruin for al time, and never rebuilt.	17 amontonarás todos sus despojos en medio de la plaza pública y prenderás fuego a la ciudad con todos sus despojos, todo ello en honor de Yahveh tu Dios. Quedará para siempre convertida en un montón de ruinas, y no volverá a ser edificada.
18 From what is thus put under the curse of destruction you must keep nothing back, so that Yahwehmay turn from the ferocity of his anger and show you mercy, and have pity on you and increase your numbers,as he swore he would to your ancestors,	18 De este anatema no se te quedará nada en la mano, para que Yahveh aplaque el ardor de su ira y sea misericordioso contigo, tenga piedad de ti y te multiplique como prometió bajo juramento a tus padres,
19 on condition that you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God by keeping al his commandmentswhich I am enjoining on you today, and by doing what is right in the eyes of Yahweh your God.'	19 a condición de que escuches la voz de Yahveh tu Dios guardando todos sus mandamientos que yo te prescribo hoy y haciendo lo que es justo a los ojos de Yahveh tu Dios.
