Luke 14

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Now it happened that on a Sabbath day he had gone to share a meal in the house of one of theleading Pharisees; and they watched him closely.	1 Or avvenne che, essendo egli entrato in giorno di sabato a prendere cibo in casa di uno dei principali Farisei, questi gli tenevano gli occhi addosso.
2 Now there in front of him was a man with dropsy,	2 Ed ecco stargli davanti un idropico.
3 and Jesus addressed the lawyers and Pharisees with the words, 'Is it against the law to cure someoneon the Sabbath, or not?'	3 E Gesù prese a dire ai dottori in legge ed ai Farisei: E' lecito o no curare di sabato?
4 But they remained silent, so he took the man and cured him and sent him away.	4 Ma quelli tacquero. Allora egli, preso per la mano quell'uomo, lo guarì e lo rimandò.
5 Then he said to them, 'Which of you here, if his son fal s into a wel , or his ox, wil not pul him out on aSabbath day without any hesitation?'	5 Indi soggiunse: Chi di voi, se dì sabato gii cade l'asino o il bove in un pozzo, non lo tira subito fuori?
6 And to this they could find no answer.	6 E a queste sue parole essi non potevano rispondere.
7 He then told the guests a parable, because he had noticed how they picked the places of honour. Hesaid this,	7 Notando poi come gli invitati sceglievano i primi posti, disse loro questa parabola:
8 'When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take your seat in the place of honour. A moredistinguished person than you may have been invited,	8 Quando sei invitato a nozze da qualcuno, non ti mettere al primo posto, chè forse non sia invitato uno più degno di te,
9 and the person who invited you both may come and say, "Give up your place to this man." And then, toyour embarrassment, you wil have to go and take the lowest place.	9 e chi ha invitato te e lui non venga a dirti: Cedigli il posto, e allora tu non cominci a stare con vergogna all'ultimo posto.
10 No; when you are a guest, make your way to the lowest place and sit there, so that, when your hostcomes, he may say, "My friend, move up higher." Then, everyone with you at the table wil see you honoured.	10 Ma,quando sei invitato vatti a mettere nell'ultimo posto, affinchè venendo chi ti ha invitato, ti dica: Amico, sali più in su. E allora ne avrai onore presso tutti i commensali.
11 For everyone who raises himself up wil be humbled, and the one who humbles himself wil be raisedup.'	11 Chi di fatti s'innalza sarà umiliato, e chi s'umilia sarà esaltato.
12 Then he said to his host, 'When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or yourbrothers or your relations or rich neighbours, in case they invite you back and so repay you.	12 E diceva anche a colui che lo aveva invitato: Quando fai un desinare o una cena non invitare i tuoi amici o fratelli, nè parenti, nò i ricchi vicini, affinchè forse non ti rendano essi pure l'invito, e ne abbia il contraccambio.
13 No; when you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;	13 Ma quando fai un convito chiama i poveri, gli storpi, gli zoppi ed i ciechi,
14 then you will be blessed, for they have no means to repay you and so you wil be repaid when theupright rise again.'	14 e sarai fortunato, perchè non han da contraccambiarti; ma tu allora sarai retribuito nella resurrezione dei giusti.
15 On hearing this, one of those gathered round the table said to him, 'Blessed is anyone who wil sharethe meal in the kingdom of God!'	15 Uno dei commensali, udite queste parole, gli disse: Beato chi potrà banchettare nel regno di Dio.
16 But he said to him, 'There was a man who gave a great banquet, and he invited a large number ofpeople.	16 Allora egli soggiunse: Un uomo fece una gran cena e invitò molti.
17 When the time for the banquet came, he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited,"Come along: everything is ready now."	17 E all'ora della cena mando il suo servo a dir ai convitati: Venite, chè tutto è pronto.
18 But al alike started to make excuses. The first said, "I have bought a piece of land and must go andsee it. Please accept my apologies."	18 E cominciarono tutti insieme a scusarsi. Il primo gli disse: Ho comprato un podere e bisogna che vada a vederlo; ti prego, abbimi per iscusato.
19 Another said, "I have bought five yoke of oxen and am on my way to try them out. Please accept myapologies."	19 E un altro gli disse: Ho comprato cinque paia, di buoi e vo a provarli; ti prego, abbimi per iscusato.
20 Yet another said, "I have just got married and so am unable to come."	20 E un altro gli disse: Ho preso moglie, quindi non posso venire.
21 'The servant returned and reported this to his master. Then the householder, in a rage, said to hisservant, "Go out quickly into the streets and al eys of the town and bring in here the poor, the crippled, the blindand the lame."	21 Ed il servo tornò a riferire queste cose al padrone. Allora, sdegnato, il padrone di casa disse al servo: Presto, và per le piazze e per le vie della città, e mena qua poveri, storpi, ciechi e zoppi.
22 "Sir," said the servant, "your orders have been carried out and there is still room."	22 E come il servo tornò a dire: Signore, è stato fatto come hai ordinato, e ancora c'è posto;
23 Then the master said to his servant, "Go to the open roads and the hedgerows and press people tocome in, to make sure my house is ful ;	23 Il padrone gli disse: Va' fuori per le strade e lungo le siepi e forza la gente a venire, affinchè si riempia la mia casa.
24 because, I tel you, not one of those who were invited shal have a taste of my banquet." '	24 E vi assicuro che nessuno dei primi invitati assaggerà la mia cena.
25 Great crowds accompanied him on his way and he turned and spoke to them.	25 Or molte turbe andavano con lui, ed egli, voltosi, disse loro:
26 'Anyone who comes to me without hating father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes and hisown life too, cannot be my disciple.	26 Se uno viene a me e non odia suo padre e sua madre e moglie e figli e fratelli e sorelle, e perfino la sua vita, non può essere mio discepolo.
27 No one who does not carry his cross and come after me can be my disciple.	27 E chi non porta la sua croce e non viene dietro a me, non può esser mio discepolo.
28 'And indeed, which of you here, intending to build a tower, would not first sit down and work out thecost to see if he had enough to complete it?	28 Infatti chi di voi, volendo fabbricare una torre, non calcola prima attentamente la spesa necessaria, e se ha da finirla;
29 Otherwise, if he laid the foundation and then found himself unable to finish the work, anyone who saw it would start making fun of him and saying,	29 onde non avvenga che, gettate le fondamenta, non potendo terminarla, comincino tutti quelli che stanno a vedere a beffarsi di lui
30 "Here is someone who started to build and was unable to finish."	30 e a dire: Costui ha incominciato a fabbricare e non ha potuto finire.
31 Or again, what king marching to war against another king would not first sit down and considerwhether with ten thousand men he could stand up to the other who was advancing against him with twentythousand?	31 E qual re prima di muover guerra ad un altro re, non esamina prima con calma se con diecimila possa andare a combattere uno che viene contro con trentamila?
32 If not, then while the other king was still a long way off, he would send envoys to sue for peace.	32 Altrimenti, mentre l'altro è ancora lontano, gli manda una ambasciata a chiedere di fare la pace.
33 So in the same way, none of you can be my disciple without giving up al that he owns.	33 Così pure chi di voi non rinuncia a tutto quello che possiede, non può essere mio discepolo.
34 'Salt is a good thing. But if salt itself loses its taste, what can make it salty again?	34 Il sale, certo, è buono; ma se anche il sale diventa scipito con che gli si darà il sapore?
35 It is good for neither soil nor manure heap. People throw it away. Anyone who has ears for listeningshould listen!'	35 Non è buono, nè per la terra, nè per fare il concime; si butta via. Chi ha orecchi da intendere, intenda.
