Luke 14

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Now it happened that on a Sabbath day he had gone to share a meal in the house of one of theleading Pharisees; and they watched him closely.	1 Un sabato era entrato in casa di uno dei capi dei farisei per mangiare pane e lo stavano ad osservare.
2 Now there in front of him was a man with dropsy,	2 Di fronte a lui c'era un idropico.
3 and Jesus addressed the lawyers and Pharisees with the words, 'Is it against the law to cure someoneon the Sabbath, or not?'	3 Rivolgendosi ai dottori della legge e ai farisei, Gesù disse: "E' lecito di sabato guarire o no?".
4 But they remained silent, so he took the man and cured him and sent him away.	4 Ma essi restarono in silenzio. Allora egli prese per mano il malato, lo guarì e lo congedò.
5 Then he said to them, 'Which of you here, if his son fal s into a wel , or his ox, wil not pul him out on aSabbath day without any hesitation?'	5 Poi domandò agli altri: "Chi di voi, se gli cade nel pozzo un figlio o un bue, non lo tirerà subito fuori, anche se è di sabato?".
6 And to this they could find no answer.	6 Ma essi non sapevano rispondere.
7 He then told the guests a parable, because he had noticed how they picked the places of honour. Hesaid this,	7 Osservando poi come alcuni invitati sceglievano i primi posti, disse loro una parabola:
8 'When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take your seat in the place of honour. A moredistinguished person than you may have been invited,	8 "Quando sei invitato a nozze da qualcuno, non adagiarti al primo posto, perché potrebbe esserci un invitato più importante di te;
9 and the person who invited you both may come and say, "Give up your place to this man." And then, toyour embarrassment, you wil have to go and take the lowest place.	9 in tal caso colui che ti ha invitato sarà costretto a venirti a dire: "Cedigli il posto!". Allora tu, pieno di vergogna, dovrai prendere l'ultimo posto.
10 No; when you are a guest, make your way to the lowest place and sit there, so that, when your hostcomes, he may say, "My friend, move up higher." Then, everyone with you at the table wil see you honoured.	10 Invece, quando sei invitato a nozze, va' a metterti all'ultimo posto. Quando arriverà colui che ti ha invitato, ti dirà: "Amico, vieni, prendi un posto migliore". Allora ciò sarà per te motivo di onore davanti a tutti gli invitati.
11 For everyone who raises himself up wil be humbled, and the one who humbles himself wil be raisedup.'	11 Infatti, chiunque si innalza sarà abbassato, chi invece si abbassa sarà innalzato".
12 Then he said to his host, 'When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or yourbrothers or your relations or rich neighbours, in case they invite you back and so repay you.	12 Disse poi a colui che lo aveva invitato: "Quando offri un pranzo o una cena, non invitare i tuoi amici o fratelli, né i tuoi parenti, né i ricchi che abitano vicino a te: costoro infatti possono a loro volta invitarti e così tu puoi avere il contraccambio.
13 No; when you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;	13 Invece, quando offri un banchetto, invita poveri, storpi, zoppi, ciechi:
14 then you will be blessed, for they have no means to repay you and so you wil be repaid when theupright rise again.'	14 e sarai beato, perché essi non hanno la possibilità di ricambiarti. Infatti sarai contraccambiato nella risurrezione dei giusti".
15 On hearing this, one of those gathered round the table said to him, 'Blessed is anyone who wil sharethe meal in the kingdom of God!'	15 Uno degli invitati, udite queste parole, esclamò: "Beato chi mangia il pane nel regno di Dio!".
16 But he said to him, 'There was a man who gave a great banquet, and he invited a large number ofpeople.	16 Gesù rispose: "Un uomo fece un grande banchetto e invitò molta gente.
17 When the time for the banquet came, he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited,"Come along: everything is ready now."	17 All'ora del pranzo, mandò un suo servo a dire agl'invitati: "Venite, tutto è pronto".
18 But al alike started to make excuses. The first said, "I have bought a piece of land and must go andsee it. Please accept my apologies."	18 Ma tutti, uno dopo l'altro, cominciarono a scusarsi. Uno disse: "Ho comprato un campo e devo andare a vederlo. Ti prego di scusarmi".
19 Another said, "I have bought five yoke of oxen and am on my way to try them out. Please accept myapologies."	19 Un altro disse: "Ho comprato cinque paia di buoi e sto andando a provarli. Ti prego di scusarmi".
20 Yet another said, "I have just got married and so am unable to come."	20 Un altro ancora disse: "Ho preso moglie e perciò non posso venire".
21 'The servant returned and reported this to his master. Then the householder, in a rage, said to hisservant, "Go out quickly into the streets and al eys of the town and bring in here the poor, the crippled, the blindand the lame."	21 Ritornato dal suo padrone, il servo gli riferì tutto questo. Allora il padrone di casa, pieno di sdegno, disse al servo: "Esci presto per le piazze e per le vie della città e conduci qui poveri, storpi, ciechi e zoppi".
22 "Sir," said the servant, "your orders have been carried out and there is still room."	22 Il servo poi disse al padrone: "Signore, il tuo ordine è stato eseguito, ma c'è ancora posto".
23 Then the master said to his servant, "Go to the open roads and the hedgerows and press people tocome in, to make sure my house is ful ;	23 Allora il padrone disse al servo: "Esci per le strade e lungo le siepi e forzali a venire, perché la mia casa sia piena di gente".
24 because, I tel you, not one of those who were invited shal have a taste of my banquet." '	24 Vi dico infatti: nessuno di quegli uomini che erano stati invitati gusterà la mia cena".
25 Great crowds accompanied him on his way and he turned and spoke to them.	25 Grandi folle andavano con lui. Egli si rivolse a loro e disse:
26 'Anyone who comes to me without hating father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes and hisown life too, cannot be my disciple.	26 "Se uno viene a me e non odia suo padre, sua madre, la moglie, i figli, i fratelli, le sorelle ed anche la propria vita, non può essere mio discepolo.
27 No one who does not carry his cross and come after me can be my disciple.	27 Chi non porta la propria croce e non viene dietro di me, non può essere mio discepolo.
28 'And indeed, which of you here, intending to build a tower, would not first sit down and work out thecost to see if he had enough to complete it?	28 Chi di voi, volendo costruire una torre, non siede prima a calcolare la spesa, per vedere se possiede abbastanza denaro per portarla a termine?
29 Otherwise, if he laid the foundation and then found himself unable to finish the work, anyone who saw it would start making fun of him and saying,	29 Perché non càpiti che, se getta le fondamenta e non è in grado di finire i lavori, la gente che vede cominci a schernirlo e a dire:
30 "Here is someone who started to build and was unable to finish."	30 "Costui ha cominciato a costruire e non è stato capace di portare a termine i lavori".
31 Or again, what king marching to war against another king would not first sit down and considerwhether with ten thousand men he could stand up to the other who was advancing against him with twentythousand?	31 Oppure, quale re, andando in guerra contro un altro re, non siede prima a calcolare se con diecimila soldati può affrontare il nemico che avanza con ventimila?
32 If not, then while the other king was still a long way off, he would send envoys to sue for peace.	32 Se vede che non è possibile, mentre il nemico è ancora lontano, gli manda messaggeri a chiedere quali sono le condizioni per la pace.
33 So in the same way, none of you can be my disciple without giving up al that he owns.	33 Così, dunque, chiunque di voi non rinuncia a tutti i propri beni, non può essere mio discepolo".
34 'Salt is a good thing. But if salt itself loses its taste, what can make it salty again?	34 "Il sale è buono, ma se perde il suo sapore, con che cosa gli si renderà il sapore?
35 It is good for neither soil nor manure heap. People throw it away. Anyone who has ears for listeningshould listen!'	35 Non serve né per la terra, né per il concime; perciò lo si butta via. Chi ha orecchi, cerchi di capire!".
