Matthew 19

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Jesus had now finished what he wanted to say, and he left Galilee and came into the territory ofJudaea on the far side of the Jordan.	1 Et il advint, quand Jésus eut achevé ces discours, qu'il quitta la Galilée et vint dans le territoire dela Judée au-delà du Jourdain.
2 Large crowds fol owed him and he healed them there.	2 Des foules nombreuses le suivirent, et là il les guérit.
3 Some Pharisees approached him, and to put him to the test they said, 'Is it against the Law for a manto divorce his wife on any pretext whatever?'	3 Des Pharisiens s'approchèrent de lui et lui dirent, pour le mettre à l'épreuve: "Est-il permis derépudier sa femme pour n'importe quel motif?"
4 He answered, 'Have you not read that the Creator from the beginning made them male and female	4 Il répondit: "N'avez-vous pas lu que le Créateur, dès l'origine, les fit homme et femme,
5 and that he said: This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife,and the two become one flesh?	5 et qu'il a dit: Ainsi donc l'homme quittera son père et sa mère pour s'attacher à sa femme, et lesdeux ne feront qu'une seule chair?
6 They are no longer two, therefore, but one flesh. So then, what God has united, human beings mustnot divide.'	6 Ainsi ils ne sont plus deux, mais une seule chair. Eh bien! ce que Dieu a uni, l'homme ne doitpoint le séparer" --
7 They said to him, 'Then why did Moses command that a writ of dismissal should be given in cases ofdivorce?'	7 "Pourquoi donc, lui disent-ils, Moïse a-t-il prescrit de donner un acte de divorce quand onrépudie" --
8 He said to them, 'It was because you were so hard-hearted, that Moses al owed you to divorce yourwives, but it was not like this from the beginning.	8 "C'est, leur dit-il, en raison de votre dureté de coeur que Moïse vous a permis de répudier vosfemmes; mais dès l'origine il n'en fut pas ainsi.
9 Now I say this to you: anyone who divorces his wife -- I am not speaking of an il icit marriage -- andmarries another, is guilty of adultery.'	9 Or je vous le dis: quiconque répudie sa femme - pas pour "prostitution" - et en épouse une autre,commet un adultère."
10 The disciples said to him, 'If that is how things are between husband and wife, it is advisable not tomarry.'	10 Les disciples lui disent: "Si telle est la condition de l'homme envers la femme, il n'est pasexpédient de se marier."
11 But he replied, 'It is not everyone who can accept what I have said, but only those to whom it isgranted.	11 Il leur dit: "Tous ne comprennent pas ce langage, mais ceux-là à qui c'est donné.
12 There are eunuchs born so from their mother's womb, there are eunuchs made so by human agencyand there are eunuchs who have made themselves so for the sake of the kingdom of Heaven. Let anyoneaccept this who can.'	12 Il y a, en effet, des eunuques qui sont nés ainsi du sein de leur mère, il y a des eunuques qui lesont devenus par l'action des hommes, et il y a des eunuques qui se sont eux-mêmes rendus tels à cause duRoyaume des Cieux. Qui peut comprendre, qu'il comprenne!"
13 Then people brought little children to him, for him to lay his hands on them and pray. The disciplesscolded them,	13 Alors des petits enfants lui furent présentés, pour qu'il leur imposât les mains en priant; mais lesdisciples les rabrouèrent.
14 but Jesus said, 'Let the little children alone, and do not stop them from coming to me; for it is to suchas these that the kingdom of Heaven belongs.'	14 Jésus dit alors: "Laissez les petits enfants et ne les empêchez pas de venir à moi; car c'est à leurspareils qu'appartient le Royaume des Cieux."
15 Then he laid his hands on them and went on his way.	15 Puis il leur imposa les mains et poursuivit sa route.
16 And now a man came to him and asked, 'Master, what good deed must I do to possess eternal life?'	16 Et voici qu'un homme s'approcha et lui dit: "Maître, que dois-je faire de bon pour obtenir la vieéternelle?"
17 Jesus said to him, 'Why do you ask me about what is good? There is one alone who is good. But ifyou wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.'	17 Il lui dit: "Qu'as-tu à m'interroger sur ce qui est bon? Un seul est le Bon. Que si tu veux entrerdans la vie, observe les commandements" --
18 He said, 'Which ones?' Jesus replied, 'These: You shall not kil . You shall not commit adultery. Youshall not steal. You shal not give false witness.	18 "Lesquels?" Lui dit-il. Jésus reprit: "Tu ne tueras pas, tu ne commettras pas d'adultère, tu nevoleras pas, tu ne porteras pas de faux témoignage,
19 Honour your father and your mother. You shal love your neighbour as yourself.'	19 honore ton père et ta mère, et tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même" --
20 The young man said to him, 'I have kept al these. What more do I need to do?'	20 "Tout cela, lui dit le jeune homme, je l'ai observé; que me manque-t-il encore?"
21 Jesus said, 'If you wish to be perfect, go and sell your possessions and give the money to the poor,and you wil have treasure in heaven; then come, fol ow me.'	21 Jésus lui déclara: "Si tu veux être parfait, va, vends ce que tu possèdes et donne-le aux pauvres,et tu auras un trésor dans les cieux; puis viens, suis-moi."
22 But when the young man heard these words he went away sad, for he was a man of great wealth.	22 Entendant cette parole, le jeune homme s'en alla contristé, car il avait de grands biens.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'In truth I tell you, it is hard for someone rich to enter the kingdom ofHeaven.	23 Jésus dit alors à ses disciples: "En vérité, je vous le dis, il sera difficile à un riche d'entrer dans leRoyaume des Cieux.
24 Yes, I tel you again, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for someonerich to enter the kingdom of Heaven.'	24 Oui, je vous le répète, il est plus facile à un chameau de passer par un trou d'aiguille qu'à unriche d'entrer dans le Royaume des Cieux."
25 When the disciples heard this they were astonished. 'Who can be saved, then?' they said.	25 Entendant cela, les disciples restèrent tout interdits: "Qui donc peut être sauvé?" Disaient-ils.
26 Jesus gazed at them. 'By human resources', he told them, 'this is impossible; for God everything ispossible.'	26 Fixant son regard, Jésus leur dit: "Pour les hommes c'est impossible, mais pour Dieu tout estpossible."
27 Then Peter answered and said, 'Look, we have left everything and fol owed you. What are we tohave, then?'	27 Alors, prenant la parole, Pierre lui dit: "Voici que nous, nous avons tout laissé et nous t'avonssuivi, quelle sera donc notre part?"
28 Jesus said to them, 'In truth I tel you, when everything is made new again and the Son of man isseated on his throne of glory, you yourselves wil sit on twelve thrones to judge the twelve tribes of Israel.	28 Jésus leur dit: "En vérité je vous le dis, à vous qui m'avez suivi: dans la régénération, quand leFils de l'homme siégera sur son trône de gloire, vous siégerez vous aussi sur douze trônes, pour juger les douzetribus d'Israël.
29 And everyone who has left houses, brothers, sisters, father, mother, children or land for the sake ofmy name wil receive a hundred times as much, and also inherit eternal life.	29 Et quiconque aura laissé maisons, frères, soeurs, père, mère, enfants ou champs, à cause de monnom, recevra bien davantage et aura en héritage la vie éternelle.
30 'Many who are first will be last, and the last, first.'	30 "Beaucoup de premiers seront derniers, et de derniers seront premiers."
