Habakkuk 2

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 I shal stand at my post, I shall station myself on my watch-tower, watching to see what he wil say tome, what answer he wil make to my complaints.	1 Je vais me tenir à mon poste de garde, je vais rester debout sur mon rempart; je guetterai pour voirce qu'il me dira, ce qu'il va répondre à ma doléance.
2 Then Yahweh answered me and said, 'Write the vision down, inscribe it on tablets to be easily read.	2 Alors Yahvé me répondit et dit: "Ecris la vision, grave-la sur les tablettes pour qu'on la lisefacilement.
3 For the vision is for its appointed time, it hastens towards its end and it wil not lie; although it may takesome time, wait for it, for come it certainly will before too long.	3 Car c'est une vision qui n'est que pour son temps: elle aspire à son terme, sans décevoir; si elletarde, attends-la: elle viendra sûrement, sans faillir!
4 'You see, anyone whose heart is not upright wil succumb, but the upright wil live through faithfulness.'	4 "Voici qu'il succombe, celui dont l'âme n'est pas droite, mais le juste vivra par sa fidélité."
5 Now, surely, wealth is treacherous! He is arrogant, for ever on the move, with appetite as large asSheol and as insatiable as Death, gathering in al the nations, and making a harvest of al peoples.	5 Assurément la richesse trahit! Il perd le sens et ne subsiste pas, celui qui dilate sa gorge comme leshéol, celui qui comme la mort est insatiable, qui rassemble pour lui toutes les nations et réunit pour lui tous lespeuples!
6 Are not the peoples al bound to satirise and make up cryptic riddles about him? As for instance:Disaster to anyone who amasses goods not his (for how long?) and to anyone who weighs himself down withgoods taken in pledge!	6 Tous alors n'entonneront-ils pas une satire contre lui? Ne tourneront-ils pas d'épigrammes à sonadresse? Ils diront: Malheur à qui amasse le bien d'autrui (jusques à quand?) et qui se charge d'un fardeau degages!
7 Wil not your creditors suddenly stand up, wil not those who make you shiver wake up, and you wil fala prey to them?	7 Ne surgiront-ils pas soudain, tes créanciers, ne se réveilleront-ils pas, tes exacteurs? Tu vas êtreleur proie!
8 Since you have plundered many nations, al the nations that remain wil plunder you, because of thebloodshed and violence done to the country, to the city and to all who live in it.	8 Parce que tu as pillé de nombreuses nations, tout ce qui reste de peuples te pillera, car tu as verséle sang humain, violenté le pays, la cité et tous ceux qui l'habitent!
9 Disaster to anyone who amasses ill-gotten gains for his house, so as to fix his nest on high and soevade the reach of misfortune!	9 Malheur à qui commet pour sa maison des rapines injustes, afin d'établir bien haut son repaire, afind'esquiver l'étreinte du malheur!
10 You have conspired to bring shame on your house: by overthrowing many peoples you have workedyour own ruin.	10 C'est la honte de ta maison que tu as résolue: en abattant de nombreux peuples tu as travaillécontre toi.
11 For the very stone will protest from the wal , and the beam wil respond from the framework.	11 Car des murailles mêmes la pierre crie, de la charpente la poutre lui répond.
12 Disaster to anyone who builds a town with bloodshed and founds a city on wrong-doing!	12 Malheur à qui bâtit une ville dans le sang et fonde une cité sur l'injustice!
13 Is it not thanks to Yahweh Sabaoth that the peoples' toil is fuel for the fire, and the nations' labourcame to nothing?	13 N'est-ce point la volonté de Yahvé Sabaot que les peuples peinent pour le feu, que les nationss'épuisent pour le néant?
14 But the earth wil be full of the knowledge of the glory of Yahweh as the waters cover the depths of thesea.	14 Car la terre sera remplie de la connaissance de la gloire de Yahvé comme les eaux couvrent lefond de la mer!
15 Disaster to anyone who makes his neighbours drink, pouring out his poison until they are drunk, sothat he can see them naked!	15 Malheur à qui fait boire ses voisins, à qui verse son poison jusqu'à les enivrer, pour regarder leurnudité!
16 You are ful of shame, not glory! Your turn now to drink and show your foreskin. The cup in Yahweh'sright hand comes round to you, and disgrace wil overshadow your glory.	16 Tu t'es saturé d'ignominie, non de gloire! Bois à ton tour et montre ton prépuce! Elle passe pourtoi, la coupe de la droite de Yahvé, et l'infamie va recouvrir ta gloire!
17 For the violence done to the Lebanon wil overwhelm you and the massacre of animals will terrify you,because of the bloodshed and violence done to the country, to the city and to al who live in it. Disaster toanyone who says to the log, 'Wake up!', to the dumb stone, 'On your feet!' (This is the prophecy!) Look, he isencased in gold and silver, -but not a breath of life inside it!	17 Car la violence faite au Liban te submergera, ainsi que le massacre d'animaux frappésd'épouvante, car tu as versé le sang humain, violenté le pays, la cité et tous ceux qui l'habitent!
18 What use is a sculpted image that a sculptor should make it? - a metal image, a lying instructor! Andwhy does the image-maker put his trust in it, that he should make dumb idols?	18 A quoi sert une sculpture pour que la sculpte son artiste? Une image de métal, un oracle menteur,pour qu'en eux se confie celui qui les façonne en vue de fabriquer des idoles muettes?
19	19 Malheur à qui dit au morceau de bois: "Réveille-toi!" à la pierre silencieuse: "Sors de tonsommeil!" (C'est cela l'oracle!) Placage d'or et d'argent, certes, mais sans un souffle de vie qui l'anime!
20 But Yahweh is in his holy Temple: let the whole earth be silent before him.	20 Mais Yahvé réside dans son temple saint: silence devant lui, terre entière!
