NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Now, the Reubenites and Gadites owned very large herds of cattle. Having seen that the territories ofJazer and Gilead formed an ideal region for raising stock,	1 I figli di Ruben e i figli di Gad avevano una quantità grande di bestiame: quando videro che la terra di Iazer e la terra di Galaad era un posto da bestiame,

3 'The territory of Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon,	3 "Atarot, Dibon, Iazer, Nimra, Chesbon, Eleale, Sebam, Nebo e Beon,
4 which Yahweh has conquered before the advancing community of Israel, is ideal land for raisingstock, and your servants are cattle breeders.	4 terre che il Signore ha colpito davanti alla comunità d'Israele, sono terre per bestiame, e i tuoi servi hanno molto bestiame".
5 So', they said, 'if you approve, give your servants this land for us to own; do not make us cross theJordan.'	5 Soggiunsero: "Se abbiamo trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, sia data questa terra ai tuoi servi in possesso: non farci passare il Giordano".
6 Moses said to the Gadites and Reubenites, 'Do you intend your brothers to go into battle while youstay here?	6 Mosè disse ai figli di Gad e ai figli di Ruben: "I vostri fratelli andrebbero forse in guerra e voi stareste qui?
7 Why are you discouraging the Israelites from crossing to the country which Yahweh has given them?	7 Perché distogliete il cuore dei figli d'Israele dal passare alla terra che il Signore vi ha dato?
8 Your fathers behaved in the same way when I sent them from Kadesh-Barnea to see the country,	8 Così fecero i vostri padri, quando li mandai da Kades-Barnea a vedere la terra:
9 for, having gone as far as the Val ey of Eshcol and seen the country, they discouraged the Israelitesfrom entering the country which Yahweh had given them.	9 salirono fino alla valle di Escol, videro la terra e distolsero il cuore dei figli d'Israele dall'entrare nella terra che il Signore aveva dato a loro.
10 Hence Yahweh's anger was aroused that day and he swore this oath,	10 In quel giorno lo sdegno del Signore divampò e giurò dicendo:
11 "No man of twenty years and over, who left Egypt, shal set eyes on the country which I promised onoath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob . . . , for they have not fol owed me absolutely,	11 "Gli uomini che sono saliti dall'Egitto, dai vent'anni in su, non vedranno mai il suolo che ho giurato ad Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe, poiché non mi hanno seguito completamente,

13 Yahweh's anger being aroused by Israel, he made them wander in the desert for forty years, untilthe generation that offended Yahweh had all disappeared.	13 Lo sdegno del Signore divampò contro Israele e li fece errare nel deserto per quarant'anni, fino all'estinzione di tutta la generazione che aveva fatto il male agli occhi del Signore.
14 And now you rise up in your father's place, offshoot of sinful stock, to increase Yahweh's burninganger with Israel even more!	14 Ed ecco che insorgete al posto dei vostri padri, genìa di uomini peccatori, per aumentare ancora lo sdegno del Signore contro Israele:
15 If you turn away from him, he wil prolong the time spent in the desert, and you wil bring about thisentire people's ruin.'	15 perché, se vi distogliete da lui, lo farà ancora stare nel deserto e porterete alla perdizione tutto questo popolo".
16 They came to Moses and said, 'We should like to build sheepfolds here for our flocks and towns forour little ones.	16 Quelli si avvicinarono a lui e dissero: "Per il nostro bestiame costruiremo qui recinti e città per i nostri fanciulli,
17 We ourselves wil take up arms and lead the Israelites until we have brought them to the placeappointed for them, while our little ones stay in the fortified towns to be safe from the local inhabitants.	17 ma noi ci terremo armati di fronte ai figli d'Israele, finché non li avremo portati al loro luogo: i nostri figli staranno nelle città fortificate, separati dagli abitanti del paese.
18 We wil not return to our homes until every one of the Israelites has taken possession of his heritage.	18 Non torneremo alle nostre città finché i figli d'Israele non avranno ricevuto la loro eredità,
19 For we shall have no heritage with them on the other bank of the Jordan or beyond, since ourheritage has fal en to us here, east of the Jordan.'	19 perché non erediteremo con loro al di là del Giordano e oltre: poiché la nostra eredità ci è toccata da questa parte del Giordano, a oriente".
20 Moses said to them, 'If you do as you have said, if you are prepared to fight before Yahweh,	20 Mosè disse loro: "Se farete queste cose: vi armerete davanti al Signore per la guerra,
21 and if al those of you who bear arms cross the Jordan before Yahweh, until he has driven all hisenemies out before him,	21 ogni armato tra voi passerà il Giordano davanti al Signore, finché avrà scacciato i suoi nemici davanti a lui
22 then, once the country has become subject to Yahweh, you may go back, and will have dischargedyour obligation to Yahweh and Israel, and Yahweh wil consider this territory yours.	22 e la terra sarà stata soggiogata davanti al Signore, e poi tornerete, sarete innocenti davanti al Signore e a Israele e avrete questa terra, come vostro possesso davanti al Signore.
23 But if you do not, you wil sin against Yahweh, and be sure your sin wil find you out.	23 Se voi non farete così, peccherete contro il Signore, e sappiate che i vostri peccati vi raggiungeranno.
24 Build towns, then, for your little ones and folds for your flocks; but do what you have promised.'	24 Costruite dunque città per i vostri figli e recinti per le vostre pecore, ma fate quello che la vostra bocca ha promesso".
25 The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, 'Your servants will do as my lord directs.	25 I figli di Gad e i figli di Ruben dissero a Mosè: "I tuoi servi faranno come ordina il mio signore.
26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks and al our livestock wil stay in the towns of Gilead,	26 I nostri figli, le nostre donne, i nostri armenti e tutto il nostro bestiame rimarranno nelle città di Galaad,
27 but your servants, each armed for war, will cross in Yahweh's name and fight, as my lord says.'	27 e i tuoi servi, ogni armato dell'esercito, passerà davanti al Signore in guerra, come dice il mio signore".
28 So Moses gave orders about them to the priest Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads offamilies in the Israelite tribes.	28 Mosè diede ordini per loro al sacerdote Eleazaro, a Giosuè, figlio di Nun e ai capifamiglia delle tribù dei figli d'Israele.
29 Moses said to them, 'If the Gadites and Reubenites, al those under arms, cross the Jordan with youto fight in Yahweh's name, then, once the country has become subject to you, you wil give them the territory ofGilead as theirs.	29 Mosè disse loro: "Se i figli di Gad e i figli di Ruben, tutti gli armati per la guerra, passeranno con voi il Giordano davanti al Signore, e la terra sarà soggiogata davanti a voi, darete loro il paese di Galaad in possesso.
30 But if they will not cross with you under arms, they wil receive their domains in Canaan with the restof you.'	30 Ma se non passeranno armati con voi, si prenderanno il possesso in mezzo a voi nella terra di Canaan".
31 To this, the Gadites and Reubenites replied, 'What Yahweh has said to your servants, we shal do.	31 I figli di Gad e i figli di Ruben risposero: "Quello che il Signore ha detto ai tuoi servi noi lo faremo:
32 Under arms, we shall cross in Yahweh's name into Canaan, so that ownership of our heritage onthis side of the Jordan will be ours.'	32 passeremo armati davanti al Signore nella terra di Canaan, ma la proprietà della nostra eredità resti per noi oltre il Giordano".
33 Moses then gave them -- the Gadites, the Reubenites and the half-tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph-- the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the country and the townswithin its territory, and the country's frontier-towns.	33 Mosè diede ai figli di Gad, ai figli di Ruben e a metà tribù di Manasse, figlio di Giuseppe, il regno di Sicon, re amorreo, e il regno di Og, re di Basan, la terra con le sue città comprese entro i confini, le città della terra che si stendeva intorno.
34 The Gadites rebuilt Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,	34 I figli di Gad costruirono Dibon, Atarot, Aroer,

36 Beth-Nimrah and Beth-Haran as fortified towns with folds for the flocks.	36 Bet-Nimra, Bet-Aran, città fortificate e recinti per pecore.
37 The Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,	37 I figli di Ruben costruirono Chesbon, Eleale, Kiriataim,
38 Nebo and Baal-Meon (the names of which were altered), and Sibmah, giving new names to thetowns which they rebuilt.	38 Nebo, Baal-Meon, i cui nomi furono cambiati, e Sibma: e diedero il nome alle città che costruirono.
39 The descendants of Machir son of Manasseh went to Gilead. They conquered it and drove out theAmorites who were there.	39 I figli di Machir, figlio di Manasse, andarono nel Galaad, lo presero scacciando l'Amorrita che vi si trovava.
40 Moses gave Gilead to Machir son of Manasseh, and he settled there.	40 Mosè diede il Galaad a Machir, figlio di Manasse, che vi abitò.
41 Jair son of Manasseh went and seized their encampments, renaming them the Encampments ofJair.	41 Iair, figlio di Manasse, andò, prese i loro villaggi, e li chiamò villaggi di Iair.
