NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Now, the Reubenites and Gadites owned very large herds of cattle. Having seen that the territories ofJazer and Gilead formed an ideal region for raising stock,	1 OR i figliuoli di Ruben, e i figliuoli di Gad, aveano del bestiame in grandissimo numero: laonde, veggendo che il paese di Iazer, e il paese di Galaad, era luogo da bestiame;
2 the Gadites and Reubenites went to Moses, the priest Eleazar and the leaders of the community, andsaid to them,	2 vennero, e parlarono a Mosè, e al Sacerdote Eleazaro, e a’ Capi della raunanza, dicendo:
3 'The territory of Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon,	3 Atarot, e Dibon, e Iazer, e Nimra, e Hesbon, ed Eleale, e Sebam, e Nebo, e Beon,
4 which Yahweh has conquered before the advancing community of Israel, is ideal land for raisingstock, and your servants are cattle breeders.	4 che è il paese che il Signore ha percosso davanti alla raunanza d’Israele, è un paese da bestiame, e i tuoi servitori hanno del bestiame.
5 So', they said, 'if you approve, give your servants this land for us to own; do not make us cross theJordan.'	5 Poi dissero: Se abbiamo trovata grazia appo te, sia dato questo paese a possedere ai tuoi servitori, e non farci passare il Giordano.
6 Moses said to the Gadites and Reubenites, 'Do you intend your brothers to go into battle while youstay here?	6 Ma Mosè rispose a’ figliuoli di Gad, e a’ figliuoli di Ruben: Andrebbero i vostri fratelli alla guerra, e voi ve ne stareste qui?
7 Why are you discouraging the Israelites from crossing to the country which Yahweh has given them?	7 E perchè rendete voi fiacco il cuor de’ figliuoli d’Israele, per non passare al paese, che il Signore ha loro donato?
8 Your fathers behaved in the same way when I sent them from Kadesh-Barnea to see the country,	8 Così fecero i vostri padri, quando io li mandai da Cades-barnea, per vedere il paese.
9 for, having gone as far as the Val ey of Eshcol and seen the country, they discouraged the Israelitesfrom entering the country which Yahweh had given them.	9 Perciocchè essi salirono fino alla Valle di Escol, e, dopo ch’ebbero veduto il paese, renderono fiacco il cuor de’ figliuoli d’Israele, per non entrar nel paese che il Signore avea loro donato.
10 Hence Yahweh's anger was aroused that day and he swore this oath,	10 Laonde, l’ira del Signore si accese in quel giorno, ed egli giurò, dicendo:
11 "No man of twenty years and over, who left Egypt, shal set eyes on the country which I promised onoath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob . . . , for they have not fol owed me absolutely,	11 Se gli uomini, che sono usciti fuor di Egitto, dall’età di vent’anni in su, veggono mai la terra, della quale io ho giurato ad Abrahamo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe; conciossiachè non mi abbiano seguitato appieno;
12 except for Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua son of Nun: these indeed havefol owed Yahweh absolutely."	12 salvo Caleb, figliuolo di Gefunne, Chenizzeo, e Giosuè, figliuolo di Nun; perciocchè essi hanno seguitato il Signore appieno.
13 Yahweh's anger being aroused by Israel, he made them wander in the desert for forty years, untilthe generation that offended Yahweh had all disappeared.	13 E l’ira del Signore si accese contro a Israele; ed egli li ha fatti andar vagando per lo deserto, lo spazio di quarant’anni, finchè sia stata consumata tutta quella generazione, che avea fatto quel male nel cospetto del Signore.
14 And now you rise up in your father's place, offshoot of sinful stock, to increase Yahweh's burninganger with Israel even more!	14 Ed ecco, voi siete sorti in luogo de’ vostri padri, schiatta d’uomini peccatori, per accrescere ancora l’ira del Signore contro a Israele.
15 If you turn away from him, he wil prolong the time spent in the desert, and you wil bring about thisentire people's ruin.'	15 Perciocchè, se voi vi stornate di dietro a lui, egli seguiterà a lasciarlo nel deserto; e così farete perir tutto questo popolo
16 They came to Moses and said, 'We should like to build sheepfolds here for our flocks and towns forour little ones.	16 Ma essi si accostarono a lui, e dissero: Noi edificheremo qui delle mandre per lo nostro bestiame, e delle città per le nostre famiglie.
17 We ourselves wil take up arms and lead the Israelites until we have brought them to the placeappointed for them, while our little ones stay in the fortified towns to be safe from the local inhabitants.	17 Ma noi ci metteremo in ordine, pronti per andar davanti a’ figliuoli d’Israele, infino a tanto che li abbiamo condotti al luogo loro; e in questo mezzo le nostre famiglie dimoreranno nelle città forti, per tema degli abitanti del paese.
18 We wil not return to our homes until every one of the Israelites has taken possession of his heritage.	18 Noi non ritorneremo alle case nostre, finchè ciascuno de’ figliuoli d’Israele non sia entrato nella sua eredità.
19 For we shall have no heritage with them on the other bank of the Jordan or beyond, since ourheritage has fal en to us here, east of the Jordan.'	19 Perciocchè, quant’è a noi, noi non possederemo nulla con loro di là dal Giordano; essendoci la nostra eredità scaduta di qua dal Giordano, verso oriente.
20 Moses said to them, 'If you do as you have said, if you are prepared to fight before Yahweh,	20 E Mosè disse loro: Se voi fate questa cosa, e siete in ordine per andare alla guerra, davanti al Signore;
21 and if al those of you who bear arms cross the Jordan before Yahweh, until he has driven all hisenemies out before him,	21 e qualunque di voi è atto alla guerra, passa il Giordano davanti al Signore, finchè egli abbia cacciati i suoi nemici dal suo cospetto;
22 then, once the country has become subject to Yahweh, you may go back, and will have dischargedyour obligation to Yahweh and Israel, and Yahweh wil consider this territory yours.	22 dopo che il paese sarà stato soggiogato al Signore, voi potrete ritornarvene, e sarete fuor di colpa appo il Signore, e appo Israele; e questo paese sarà vostro, per possederlo nel cospetto del Signore.
23 But if you do not, you wil sin against Yahweh, and be sure your sin wil find you out.	23 Ma, se non fate così, ecco, voi avrete peccato contro al Signore; e sappiate che il vostro peccato vi ritroverà.
24 Build towns, then, for your little ones and folds for your flocks; but do what you have promised.'	24 Edificatevi delle città per le vostre famiglie, e delle mandre per le vostre gregge, e fate ciò che vi è uscito della bocca.
25 The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, 'Your servants will do as my lord directs.	25 E i figliuoli di Gad, e i figliuoli di Ruben, risposero a Mosè, dicendo: I tuoi servitori faranno come il mio signore comanda.
26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks and al our livestock wil stay in the towns of Gilead,	26 I nostri piccoli fanciulli, le nostre mogli, le nostre gregge, e tutto il nostro bestiame dimoreranno colà nelle città di Galaad.
27 but your servants, each armed for war, will cross in Yahweh's name and fight, as my lord says.'	27 Ma quant’è a’ tuoi servitori chiunque sarà atto alla guerra passerà alla guerra, davanti al Signore, come dice il mio signore
28 So Moses gave orders about them to the priest Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads offamilies in the Israelite tribes.	28 E Mosè diede ordine intorno a loro al Sacerdote Eleazaro, e a Giosuè, figliuolo di Nun, e a’ Capi delle nazioni paterne delle tribù de’ figliuoli d’Israele;
29 Moses said to them, 'If the Gadites and Reubenites, al those under arms, cross the Jordan with youto fight in Yahweh's name, then, once the country has become subject to you, you wil give them the territory ofGilead as theirs.	29 e disse loro: Se tutti coloro d’infra i figliuoli di Gad, e i figliuoli di Ruben, che sono atti alla guerra, passano con voi il Giordano davanti al Signore, quando il paese vi sarà soggiogato, date loro a possedere il paese di Galaad.
30 But if they will not cross with you under arms, they wil receive their domains in Canaan with the restof you.'	30 Ma, se non passano con voi in arme, abbiano la lor possessione fra voi nel paese di Canaan.
31 To this, the Gadites and Reubenites replied, 'What Yahweh has said to your servants, we shal do.	31 E i figliuoli di Gad, e i figliuoli di Ruben, risposero, dicendo: Noi faremo interamente come il Signore ha detto ai tuoi servitori.
32 Under arms, we shall cross in Yahweh's name into Canaan, so that ownership of our heritage onthis side of the Jordan will be ours.'	32 Noi passeremo in arme nel paese di Canaan, davanti al Signore; sol restici la possessione della nostra eredità di qua dal Giordano.
33 Moses then gave them -- the Gadites, the Reubenites and the half-tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph-- the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the country and the townswithin its territory, and the country's frontier-towns.	33 Mosè adunque diede loro, a’ figliuoli di Gad, a’ figliuoli di Ruben, e alla metà della tribù di Manasse, figliuolo di Giuseppe, il regno di Sihon, re degli Amorrei, e il regno di Og, re di Basan, il paese diviso per le sue città, co’ lor confini, le città del paese d’ogni intorno.
34 The Gadites rebuilt Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,	34 E i figliuoli di Gad riedificarono Dibon, e Atarot, e Aroer;
35 Atroth-Shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,	35 e Atrotsofan, e Iazer, e Iogbeha;
36 Beth-Nimrah and Beth-Haran as fortified towns with folds for the flocks.	36 e Betnimra, e Bet-haran, città forti, e fecero ancora delle mandre per le gregge.
37 The Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,	37 E i figliuoli di Ruben riedificarono Hesbon, ed Eleale, e Chiriataim;
38 Nebo and Baal-Meon (the names of which were altered), and Sibmah, giving new names to thetowns which they rebuilt.	38 e Nebo, e Baal-meon, mutati i nomi, e Sibma; e posero altri nomi alle città che riedificarono.
39 The descendants of Machir son of Manasseh went to Gilead. They conquered it and drove out theAmorites who were there.	39 E i figliuoli di Machir, figliuolo di Manasse, andarono in Galaad, e lo presero, e cacciarono gli Amorrei che vi erano.
40 Moses gave Gilead to Machir son of Manasseh, and he settled there.	40 Mosè adunque diede Galaad a Machir, figliuolo di Manasse; ed egli abitò quivi.
41 Jair son of Manasseh went and seized their encampments, renaming them the Encampments ofJair.	41 Iair anch’egli, figliuolo di Manasse, andò, e prese le villate di quelli, e pose loro nome: Le villate di Iair.
42 Nobah went and seized Kenat with its dependent townships, and cal ed it Nobah after himself.	42 Noba parimente andò, e prese Chenat, e le terre del suo territorio; e chiamò quella Noba, del suo nome
