NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,	1 Il Signore disse a Mosè:
2 'Tel Eleazar son of Aaron the priest to pick the censers out of the smouldering remains and scatterthe fire from them away from here,	2 "Di' a Eleazaro, figlio del sacerdote Aronne, che levi gl'incensieri dalle fiamme e sparga via il fuoco, perché sono santificati:
3 for these sinful censers have become sanctified at the price of human lives. Since they were broughtbefore Yahweh and thus became consecrated, they must be hammered into sheets to cover the altar. They willbe an object-lesson to the Israelites.'	3 gli incensieri di costoro che hanno peccato a prezzo della loro vita siano fatti lamine battute per ricoprire l'altare, perché li hanno presentati al Signore e li hanno santificati; siano un segno per i figli d'Israele".
4 The priest Eleazar took the bronze censers which had been carried by the men destroyed by the fire.They were hammered into sheets to cover the altar.	4 Il sacerdote Eleazaro prese gli incensieri di bronzo che avevano presentati quelli che erano stati bruciati e li ridusse in lamine per ricoprire l'altare,
5 They are a reminder to the Israelites that no unauthorised person, no one not of Aaron's line, mayapproach and offer incense before Yahweh, on pain of suffering the fate of Korah and his party, as Yahweh hadsaid through Moses.	5 per ricordo ai figli d'Israele, perché non si avvicini nessun estraneo che non sia del seme di Aronne, per offrire incenso davanti al Signore, e non sia come Core e la sua gente, come il Signore gli aveva ordinato per mezzo di Mosè.
6 On the following day, the whole community of Israelites were muttering against Moses and Aaron andsaying, 'You are responsible for killing Yahweh's people!'	6 Il giorno dopo tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele mormorò contro Mosè e Aronne dicendo: "Voi avete fatto morire il popolo del Signore".
7 Now, as the community was banding together against Moses and Aaron, they turned towards theTent of Meeting, and there was the cloud covering it, and the glory of Yahweh appeared.	7 E mentre la comunità si riuniva contro Mosè e Aronne, si volsero verso la tenda del convegno, ed ecco, la nuvola la ricopriva e apparve la gloria del Signore.
8 Moses and Aaron then went to the front of the Tent of Meeting.	8 Mosè ed Aronne vennero davanti alla tenda del convegno.
9 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	9 Il Signore disse a Mosè:
10 'Get away from this community. I am going to destroy them here and now.' They threw themselveson their faces.	10 "Toglietevi dal mezzo di questa comunità e io la divorerò all'istante". Ma essi si prostrarono.
11 Moses then said to Aaron, 'Take a censer, put fire in it from the altar, place incense on it and hurryto the community to perform the rite of expiation for them: for retribution has come from Yahweh, plague hasbroken out.'	11 Mosè disse ad Aronne: "Prendi l'incensiere e mettici fuoco preso dall'altare: poni l'incenso e va' subito dalla comunità ed espia per loro, perché è divampata l'ira del Signore, il flagello è cominciato".
12 Aaron took it as Moses said and ran into the middle of the community, but plague had alreadybroken out among the people. He put in the incense and performed the rite of expiation for the people.	12 Aronne prese l'incensiere come Mosè aveva detto e corse in mezzo all'assemblea: ed ecco il flagello era cominciato sul popolo. Mise l'incenso ed espiò per il popolo.
13 Then he stood between the living and the dead, and the plague stopped.	13 Stette tra i morti e i vivi e il flagello si arrestò.
14 There were fourteen thousand seven hundred victims of the plague, apart from those who diedbecause of Korah.	14 I morti per il flagello furono 14.700, senza i morti per il fatto di Core.
15 Aaron then went back to Moses at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting; the plague had been halted.	15 Aronne tornò da Mosè all'ingresso della tenda del convegno, e il flagello si arrestò.
16 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	16 Il Signore disse a Mosè:
17 'Tel the Israelites to give you a branch for each of their families, one for each leader of each family:twelve branches. Write the name of each on his branch;	17 "Parla ai figli d'Israele e prendi da loro una verga per ogni casa paterna, da ciascuno dei loro capi per case paterne: dodici verghe. Scriverai il nome di ognuno sulla propria verga.
18 and on the branch of Levi write Aaron's name, since the head of the Levite families must have abranch too.	18 Il nome di Aronne lo scriverai sulla verga di Levi, perché ci sarà una verga per ogni capo della loro casa paterna.
19 You wil then put them inside the Tent of Meeting in front of the Testimony, where I make myselfknown to you.	19 Le poserai nella tenda del convegno, davanti alla testimonianza, dove io vi faccio convenire.
20 The man whose branch sprouts will be the one I have chosen; this is how I shal put an end to themutterings of the Israelites about you.'	20 Fiorirà la verga di chi io sceglierò e così metterò a tacere le mormorazioni dei figli d'Israele che hanno mormorato contro di voi".
21 Moses spoke to the Israelites, and al their leaders gave him one branch each, twelve branches in alfor their families; Aaron's branch was among them.	21 Mosè parlò ai figli d'Israele e tutti i loro capi gli diedero una verga, una verga per ciascuno, secondo le loro case paterne, dodici verghe; la verga di Aronne era in mezzo alle loro verghe.
22 Moses placed them before Yahweh in the Tent of the Testimony.	22 Mosè posò le verghe davanti al Signore nella tenda della testimonianza.
23 On the fol owing day Moses went to the Tent of the Testimony and there, already sprouting, wasAaron's branch, representing the House of Levi; buds had formed, flowers had bloomed and almonds hadalready ripened.	23 Il giorno dopo, quando Mosè entrò nella tenda della testimonianza, ecco che la verga di Aronne, della casa di Levi, era fiorita, era uscita la gemma, germogliato il fiore, maturate le mandorle.
24 Moses then brought out all the branches from before Yahweh to al the Israelites; they examinedthem and each one took back his own branch.	24 Mosè fece portare tutte le verghe dalla presenza del Signore davanti a tutti i figli d'Israele: videro e ognuno prese la propria verga.
25 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Put Aaron's branch back in front of the Testimony, where it wil have itsritual place as a warning to the rebel ious; thus you will rid me of their muttering for good, without their incurringdeath.'	25 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Riporta la verga di Aronne davanti alla testimonianza per conservarla come monito per i ribelli e fa' cessare le loro mormorazioni contro di me e non muoiano".
26 Moses did as Yahweh had ordered. That is what he did.	26 Mosè fece come il Signore gli aveva ordinato.
27 The Israelites then said to Moses, 'We are lost! We are dead men! We are al dead men!	27 Poi i figli d'Israele dissero a Mosè: "Ecco, moriamo, siamo perduti, siamo tutti perduti.
28 Anyone who approaches Yahweh's Dwel ing with an offering wil die. Are we to be doomed to thelast man?'	28 Chiunque si avvicina alla dimora del Signore muore: dobbiamo forse morire tutti?".
