Obadiah 1

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 Vision of Obadiah: about Edom. I have received a message from Yahweh, a herald has been sentthroughout the nations: 'Up! Let us march against this people. Into battle!' The Lord Yahweh says this:	1 Visione di Abdia. Queste cose dice il Signore Dio ad Edom: (Noi udimmo già dal Signore, com'ei mandò ambasciadore a dire alle genti: Venite, andiamo a fargli guerra.)
2 Look, I have reduced you to the smal est of nations, you are now beneath contempt.	2 Tu vedi, com'io ti ho fatto piccolino tralle nazioni, e che tu se' assai dispregevole.
3 Your proud heart has misled you, you whose home is in the crannies of the Rock, who make theheights your dwel ing, who think to yourself, 'Who can bring me down to earth?'	3 La superbia del tuo cuore ti ha levato in altura, perchè tu abiti nelle buche de' massi, e in luoghi alti hai collocato il tuo trono, e dici in cuor tuo: Chi di quassù tirerammi al basso?
4 Though you soar like an eagle, though you set your nest among the stars, I shall bring you down fromthere!-declares Yahweh.	4 Quando tu t'innalzassi com' aquila, e tralle stelle ponessi il tuo nido, di lassù io ti caverei, dice il Signore.
5 If thieves were to come to you (or robbers during the night) surely they would steal only as much asthey wanted? If grape-pickers were to come to you, surely they would leave a few gleanings? But how you havebeen pil aged!	5 Se i ladri, e gli assassini fossero entrati di nottetempo in tua casa, come saresti tu stato cheto? Non è egli vero, che avrebber rubato quanto loro bastasse? Se fossero entrati nella tua vigna a vendemmiare, non avrebber almeno lasciato per te qualche grappolo?
6 How Esau has been looted, his hidden treasures routed out!	6 Ma in qual modo costoro han frugata la casa di Esaù, e son'iti cercando ne' luoghi più riposti?
7 Your al ies al pursued you right to the frontier, your confederates kept you in suspense, then got thebetter of you, your own guests laid a trap for you, 'He has quite lost his wits.'	7 Ti hanno cacciato sino ai confini; tutti i tuoi confederati si son burlati di te: i tuoi amici si sono alzati contro di te, quelli, che mangiavano alla tua mensa, ti tesero insidie. Non è in Edom prudenza.
8 When that day comes- declares Yahweh- shall I not eliminate sages from Edom and intel igence fromMount Esau?	8 Non tonò io in quel giorno i saggi all'Idumea, dice il Signore, e i prudenti al monte di Esaù?
9 Your warriors, Teman, wil be so demoralised that the people of Mount Esau will be massacred to thelast one. For the slaughter,	9 E i tuoi campioni di mezzogiorno saranno paurosi, onde non resterà uomo forte del monte di Esaù.
10 for the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame wil cover you and you will be annihilated for ever.	10 Per le uccisioni, e per le ingiustizie commesse contro Giacobbe tuo fratello, tu sarai coperto di confusione, e perirai in eterno.
11 On the day, when you stood aloof while strangers carried off his riches, while foreigners passedthrough his gate and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were as bad as the rest of them.	11 In quel giorno, in cui tu portasti le armi contro di lui, quando gli stranieri facevano prigioni i suoi soldati, ed entravano nelle sue porte, e sopra Gerusalemme gettavan le sorti, tu pur eri come uno di loro.
12 Do not feast your eyes on your brother on the day of his misfortune. Do not gloat over the children ofJudah on the day of their ruin. Do not play the braggart on the day of distress.	12 Or tu non guarderai d'alto in basso il tuo fratello, quand'ei sarà in afflizione, quando se n'anderà pellegrino; e non ti allegrerai della sorte de' figliuoli di Giuda nel dì della lor perdizione; e non insulterai superbamente ad essi nel giorno di angoscia.
13 Do not enter my people's gate on their day of calamity. Do not, you especial y, feast your eyes on theirsuffering on their day of calamity. Do not touch their possessions on their day of calamity.	13 E non entrerai nella porta del popol mio nel giorno di sua rovina; e non ti farai beffe de' suoi mali anche tu nel giorno di sua desolazione; e non sarai spedito contro le sue schiere nel giorno di loro sconfitta,
14 Do not wait at the crossroads to annihilate their fugitives. Do not hand over their survivors on the dayof distress.	14 E non istanti ai posti per uccidere i fuggitivi, e non chiuderai i suoi avanzi nel dì dell'afflizione:
15 For the Day of Yahweh is near for al the nations. As you have done, so wil it be done to you: yourdeeds wil recoil on your own head.	15 Perocché vicino egli è il dì del Signore per tutte le genti: quello, che tu facesti, sarà fatto a te: sulla tua testa farà Dio cadere la tua mercede;
16 Just as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so will al the nations drink continual y, they wil drink,wil drink greedily, but they wil be as though they had never been!	16 Perocché come beveste voi, che state sul mio monte santo, cosi beranno tutte costantemente le genti: beranno, e tracanneranno, e saranno come se non fossero.
17 But on Mount Zion wil be those who have escaped -it will be a sanctuary- and the House of Jacob willrecover what is rightful y theirs.	17 E sul monte di Sion sarà salvazione, ed ei sarà santo; e la casa di Giacobbe sarà signora di quei, che la signoreggiarono.
18 Then the House of Jacob wil be a fire, the House of Joseph a flame, and the House of Esau likestubble. They wil set it alight and burn it up, and no one of the House of Esau wil survive. Yahweh has spoken.	18 La casa di Giacobbe sarà fuoco, e la casa di Giuseppe sarà fiamma, e la casa di Esaù sarà paglia, e questa sarà bruciata da quelle, e divorata, e avanzo non resterà della casa di Esaù, perchè il Signore l'ha detto.
19 People from the Negeb wil occupy the Mount of Esau, people from the lowlands the country of thePhilistines; they wil occupy Ephraim and Samaria, and Benjamin wil occupy Gilead.	19 E quelli, che stanno da mezzodì, occuperanno il monte di Esaù, e quelli della pianura si faranno signori de' Filistei; e possederanno il paese di Ephraim, e fa provincia di Samaria; e Beniamin sarà padrone di Galaad.
20 The exiles of this army, the sons of Israel, wil have the Canaanites' land as far as Zarephthah, whilethe exiles from Jerusalem now in Sepharad wil have the cities of the Negeb.	20 E l'esercito de' figliuoli d'Israele, che fu menato in ischiavitù, avrà tutti luoghi de' Chananei fino a Sarepta: e quelli di Gerusalemme menati schiavi nel Bosphoro, possederanno le città di mezzogiorno.
21 Victorious, they wil climb Mount Zion to rule over Mount Esau, and sovereignty wil be Yahweh's!	21 E saliranno al monte di Sion i salvatori a giudicare il monte di Esaù. E il regno sarà del Signore.
