Obadiah 1

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Vision of Obadiah: about Edom. I have received a message from Yahweh, a herald has been sentthroughout the nations: 'Up! Let us march against this people. Into battle!' The Lord Yahweh says this:	1 La visione di Abdia. COSÌ ha detto il Signore Iddio ad Edom: Noi abbiamo udito un grido da parte del Signore, ed un ambasciatore è stato mandato fra le genti, dicendo: Movetevi, e leviamoci i contro a lei in battaglia.
2 Look, I have reduced you to the smal est of nations, you are now beneath contempt.	2 Ecco, io ti ho fatto piccolo fra le genti; tu sei grandemente sprezzato.
3 Your proud heart has misled you, you whose home is in the crannies of the Rock, who make theheights your dwel ing, who think to yourself, 'Who can bring me down to earth?'	3 La superbia del cuor tuo ti ha ingannato, o tu che abiti nelle fessure delle rocce, che son l’alta tua stanza; che dici nel cuor tuo: Chi mi trarrà giù in terra?
4 Though you soar like an eagle, though you set your nest among the stars, I shall bring you down fromthere!-declares Yahweh.	4 Avvegnachè tu avessi innalzato il tuo nido come l’aquila, e l’avessi posto fra le stelle; pur ti trarrò giù di là, dice il Signore.
5 If thieves were to come to you (or robbers during the night) surely they would steal only as much asthey wanted? If grape-pickers were to come to you, surely they would leave a few gleanings? But how you havebeen pil aged!	5 Se quelli che son venuti a te fosser ladri, o ladroni notturni, come saresti stato distrutto? non avrebbero essi rubato quanto fosse lor bastato? se de’ vendemmiatori fosser venuti a te, non ti avrebbero essi lasciati alcuni grappoli?
6 How Esau has been looted, his hidden treasures routed out!	6 Come sono stati investigati, e ricercati i nascondimenti di Esaù!
7 Your al ies al pursued you right to the frontier, your confederates kept you in suspense, then got thebetter of you, your own guests laid a trap for you, 'He has quite lost his wits.'	7 Tutti i tuoi collegati ti hanno accompagnato fino a’ confini; quelli co’ quali tu vivevi in buona pace ti hanno ingannato, e ti hanno vinto; hanno messo il tuo pane per una trappola sotto di te; non vi è in lui alcuno intendimento.
8 When that day comes- declares Yahweh- shall I not eliminate sages from Edom and intel igence fromMount Esau?	8 In quel giorno, dice il Signore, non farò io perir di Edom i savi, e del monte di Esaù l’intendimento?
9 Your warriors, Teman, wil be so demoralised that the people of Mount Esau will be massacred to thelast one. For the slaughter,	9 I tuoi uomini prodi saranno eziandio spaventati, o Teman; acciocchè sia sterminato ogni uomo dal monte di Esaù, per uccisione
10 for the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame wil cover you and you will be annihilated for ever.	10 Per la violenza fatta al tuo fratello Giacobbe, vergogna ti coprirà, e sarai sterminato in perpetuo.
11 On the day, when you stood aloof while strangers carried off his riches, while foreigners passedthrough his gate and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were as bad as the rest of them.	11 Nel giorno, che tu gli stavi dirincontro; nel giorno, che gli stranieri menavano in cattività il suo esercito, e i forestieri entravano dentro alle sue porte, e traevano le sorti sopra Gerusalemme, anche tu eri come l’un di loro.
12 Do not feast your eyes on your brother on the day of his misfortune. Do not gloat over the children ofJudah on the day of their ruin. Do not play the braggart on the day of distress.	12 Or non istare a riguardare, nel giorno del tuo fratello, nel giorno ch’egli è condotto in terra strana; e non rallegrarti de’ figliuoli di Giuda, nel giorno che periscono; e non allargar la bocca, nel giorno della lor distretta.
13 Do not enter my people's gate on their day of calamity. Do not, you especial y, feast your eyes on theirsuffering on their day of calamity. Do not touch their possessions on their day of calamity.	13 Non entrar nella porta del mio popolo, nel giorno della loro calamità; e non istare ancora tu a riguardare il suo male, nel giorno della sua calamità; e non metter le mani sopra i suoi beni, nel giorno della sua calamità.
14 Do not wait at the crossroads to annihilate their fugitives. Do not hand over their survivors on the dayof distress.	14 E non istartene in su le forche delle strade, per ammazzar quelli d’esso che si salvano; e non mettere in mano de’ nemici quelli d’esso che scampano, nel giorno della distretta.
15 For the Day of Yahweh is near for al the nations. As you have done, so wil it be done to you: yourdeeds wil recoil on your own head.	15 Perciocchè il giorno del Signore contro a tutte le nazioni è vicino; come tu hai fatto, così sarà fatto a te; la tua retribuzione ti ritornerà in sul capo.
16 Just as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so will al the nations drink continual y, they wil drink,wil drink greedily, but they wil be as though they had never been!	16 Perciocchè, siccome voi avete bevuto in sul monte mio santo, così berranno tutte le nazioni continuamente; anzi berranno, e inghiottiranno, e saranno come se non fossero state
17 But on Mount Zion wil be those who have escaped -it will be a sanctuary- and the House of Jacob willrecover what is rightful y theirs.	17 Ma nel monte di Sion vi sarà qualche scampo, e quello sarà santo; e la casa di Giacobbe possederà le sue possessioni.
18 Then the House of Jacob wil be a fire, the House of Joseph a flame, and the House of Esau likestubble. They wil set it alight and burn it up, and no one of the House of Esau wil survive. Yahweh has spoken.	18 E la casa di Giacobbe sarà un fuoco, e la casa di Giuseppe una fiamma; e la casa di Esaù sarà come stoppia; essi si apprenderanno in loro, e li consumeranno; e la casa di Esaù non avrà alcuno che resti in vita; perciocchè il Signore ha parlato.
19 People from the Negeb wil occupy the Mount of Esau, people from the lowlands the country of thePhilistines; they wil occupy Ephraim and Samaria, and Benjamin wil occupy Gilead.	19 E possederanno la parte meridionale col monte di Esaù; e il piano col paese de’ Filistei; possederanno ancora il territorio di Efraim, e il territorio di Samaria; e Beniamino con Galaad.
20 The exiles of this army, the sons of Israel, wil have the Canaanites' land as far as Zarephthah, whilethe exiles from Jerusalem now in Sepharad wil have the cities of the Negeb.	20 E questo esercito de’ figliuoli d’Israele, che è stato menato in cattività, possederà quello ch’era de’ Cananei, fino in Sarepta; e que’ di Gerusalemme, che sono stati menati in cattività, che sono in Sefarad, possederanno le città del Mezzodì.
21 Victorious, they wil climb Mount Zion to rule over Mount Esau, and sovereignty wil be Yahweh's!	21 E de’ liberatori saliranno nel monte di Sion, per giudicare il monte di Esaù; e il regno sarà del Signore
