1 This is what Lord Yahweh showed me: there was a swarm of locusts when the second crop wassprouting, full-grown locusts, after the king's hay had been cut.	1 Queste sono le visioni mandate a me dal Signore Dio: Ecco il facitore delle locuste nel principio, in cui la pioggia serotina facea spuntare i germogli, ed ecco la pioggia serotina dopo la segatura del re.

3 Then Yahweh relented; 'It wil not happen,' said Yahweh.	3 Il Signore ebbe pietà di questo, e disse il Signore: Non sarà.
4 This is what Lord Yahweh showed me: Lord Yahweh summoning fire in punishment; it had devouredthe great Abyss and was encroaching on the land,	4 E il Signore Dio mi fece vedere anche questo: Io vedeva il Signore Dio, che chiamava la vendetta a dar di mano al fuoco, e questo asciugò un grande abisso, e consumava insieme una parte;
5 when I said, 'Lord Yahweh, stop, I beg you. How can Jacob survive, being so smal ?'	5 Ed io dissi: Signore Dio, placati, te ne prego: chi rialzerà Giacobbe, che è si stenuato?
6 Then Yahweh relented; 'This wil not happen either,' said the Lord Yahweh.	6 Il Signore ebbe pietà di questo, e disse, il Signore Dio: Neppur questo sarà.

8 'What do you see, Amos?' Yahweh asked me. 'A plumb-line,' I said. Then the Lord said, 'Look, I amgoing to put a plumb-line in among my people Israel; never again will I overlook their offences.	8 E il Signore disse a me: Che è quello, che tu vedi, o Amos? E io dissi: Una mestola da muratore. E il Signore disse: Ecco, che io getterò la mestola in mezzo al mio popolo d'Israele, né più la adoprerò per arricciare le sue mura.
9 The high places of Isaac wil be ruined and the sanctuaries of Israel laid waste, and, sword in hand, Iwil attack the House of Jeroboam.'	9 E i luoghi eccelsi dell'idolo saranno atterrati, e i luoghi santi d'Israel esaran desolati, e darò di mano alla spada contro la casa di Geroboam.
10 Amaziah the priest of Bethel then sent word to Jeroboam king of Israel as fol ows, 'Amos is plottingagainst you in the heart of the House of Israel; the country cannot tolerate his speeches.	10 Ma Amasia sacerdote di Bethel mandò a dire a Geroboam re di Israele: Amos fa ribellione contro di te in mezzo al popolo d'Israele: la gente non può sopportare tutte le cose? ch'ei dice:
11 For this is what Amos says, "Jeroboam is going to die by the sword, and Israel wil go into captivity farfrom its native land." '	11 Perocché Amos dice così: Geroboam perirà di spada, e Israele se n'anderà schiavo dal suo paese.
12 To Amos himself Amaziah said, 'Go away, seer, take yourself off to Judah, earn your living there, andthere you can prophesy!	12 E Amasia disse ad Amos: O veggente, partiti, fuggi nel paese di Giuda, ed ivi mangia il tuo pane, ed ivi profeterai.
13 But never again wil you prophesy at Bethel, for this is a royal sanctuary, a national temple.'	13 Ma non profeterai mai più a Bethel, perchè è il luogo santo del re, e la sede del regno.
14 'I am not a prophet,' Amos replied to Amaziah, 'nor do I belong to a prophetic brotherhood. I ammerely a herdsman and dresser of sycamore-figs.	14 E Amos rispose ad Amasia: Io non sono profeta, né figliuolo di profeta, ma sono custode di armenti, e bruco i sicomori.
15 But Yahweh took me as I fol owed the flock, and Yahweh said to me, "Go and prophesy to my peopleIsrael."	15 E il Signore mi prese mentr'io seguiva l'armento, e il Signore mi disse: Va, profetizza al popol mio d'Israele.
16 So now listen to what Yahweh says: "You say: Do not prophesy against Israel, do not foretel doomon the House of Isaac!"	16 Or ascolta tu adesso la parola del Signore. Tu dici a me: Non profeterai sopra Israele, e non getterai oracoli sulla casa dell'idolo.
17 Very wel , this is what Yahweh says, "Your wife wil become a prostitute in the streets, your sons anddaughters wil fal by the sword, your land wil be parcel ed out by measuring line, and you yourself wil die onpolluted soil and Israel will go into captivity far from its own land!" '	17 Per onesto il Signore dice cosi: La tua moglie sarà disonorata nella città, e i tuoi figliuoli, e le tue figlie periranno di spada, e la tua terra sarà spartita a misura, e tu in una terra profana morrai, e Israele se n'anderà schiavo fuori del suo paese.
