NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 'I, Nebuchadnezzar, was living comfortably in my house, prosperously in my palace.	1 - Io, Nabucodonosor, mentre stava nella quiete in casa mia, e nella floridezza della mia reggia,
2 I had a dream; it appal ed me. Dread assailed me as I lay in bed; the visions that passed through myhead tormented me.	2 vidi un sogno che mi atterrì e i pensieri nel mio letto e le visioni che aveva in capo mi conturbarono.
3 So I decreed that all the sages of Babylon be summoned to explain to me what the dream meant.	3 E da me fu emanato un decreto, che tutti i sapienti di Babilonia venissero introdotti alla mia presenza, affinchè mi indicassero la spiegazione del mio sogno.
4 Magicians, soothsayers, Chaldaeans and exorcists came, and I told them what I had dreamt, but theycould not interpret it for me.	4 Allora entrarono gl'indovini, i magi, i Caldei, gli aruspici e io raccontava in loro presenza il sogno, ma non seppero indicarmi la spiegazione.
5 Daniel, renamed Belteshazzar after my own god, and in whom the spirit of the holy gods resides, thencame into my presence. I told him my dream:	5 Fin tanto che entrò alla mia presenza un loro collega, Daniele, che dal nome del mio dio si appella Baltassar e che possiede dentro di sè lo spirito degli dèi santi: e io esposi il mio sogno davanti a lui.
6 ' "Belteshazzar, chief of magicians," I said, "I know that the spirit of the holy gods resides in you and that no mystery puts you at a loss. This is the dream I have had; tel me what it means.	6 - O Baltassar, principe degli indovini; siccome conosco che hai in te lo spirito degli dèi santi e nessun arcano a te è impenetrabile, esponimi le visioni dei sogni che ho vedute e la loro spiegazione.
7 ' "The visions that passed through my head as I lay in bed were these: I saw a tree in the middle of theworld; it was very tal .	7 La visione che mi passò pel capo nel mio letto eccola: "Io vedeva un albero in mezzo alla terra ed era di un'altezza smisurata;
8 The tree grew tal er and stronger, until its top reached the sky and it could be seen from the very endsof the earth.	8 un albero enorme robusto la cui elevatezza toccava il cielo e la sua vista appariva dalle estremità di tutta la terra.
9 Its foliage was beautiful, its fruit abundant, in it was food for al . For the wild animals it provided shade,the birds of heaven nested in its branches, al living creatures found their food on it.	9 Il suo fogliame era magnifico, i suoi frutti copiosissimi: vi era pasto in esso per tutti; sotto abitavano animali e bestie e sopra i rami s'intrattenevano gli uccelli, e da esso avevano cibo tutti questi viventi.
10 ' "I watched the visions passing through my head as I lay in bed: Next, a Watchful One, a holy one,came down from heaven.	10 Io stava assorto nella visione del mio capo sopra il mio letto, quand'ecco un vigile, un santo discese dal cielo,
11 At the top of his voice he shouted: Cut the tree down, lop off its branches, strip off its leaves, throwaway its fruit; let the animals flee from its shelter and the birds from its branches.	11 e a voce alta gridò e disse così: Tagliate l'albero, troncate i suoi rami, scotetene le foglie e disperdetene i frutti; fuggano le bestie dal di sotto e gli uccelli da' suoi rami.
12 But leave the stump with its roots in the ground, bound with hoops of iron and bronze, in the grass ofthe countryside. Let it be drenched by the dew of heaven and have its lot with the animals, eating grass!	12 Tuttavia lasciate il ceppo delle sue radici nel suolo e stia legato con una catena di ferro e di bronzo tra le erbe che crescono all'aperto, sia bagnato dalla rugiada del cielo e divida colle fiere l'erba del suolo.
13 Let it cease to have a human heart, and be given the heart of a beast, and seven times shal passover him!	13 Il suo cuore di uomo si cangi e gli si dia un cuore di fiera, e sette tempi si succedano sopra di lui.
14 Such is the sentence proclaimed by the Watchers, the verdict announced by the holy ones- so thatevery living thing may learn that the Most High rules over human sovereignty; he confers it on whom he pleases,and raises the lowest of humankind.	14 Così fu decretato per sentenza dei vigili; tale fu la determinazione dei santi e la domanda, affinchè riconoscano i viventi che l'Altissimo impera sopra il regno degli uomini e lo dà a chiunque vuole e su di esso può costituire il più umile degli uomini".
15 ' "This was the dream I had-I, Nebuchadnezzar the king. Now it is for you, Belteshazzar, to pronounceon its meaning, since not one of the sages in my kingdom has been able to interpret it for me; you, however, cando so, since the spirit of the holy gods resides in you." '	15 Questo sogno, io, il re Nabucodonosor, ho veduto: tu dunque, o Baltassar, esponi sollecito la spiegazione, perchè tutti i sapienti del mio regno non hanno potuto trarmene fuori la spiegazione: ma tu lo puoi perchè lo spirito degli dèi santi è in te -».
16 Daniel, known as Belteshazzar, was confused for a time and upset. The king said, 'Belteshazzar, donot be upset at the dream and its meaning.' Belteshazzar answered, 'My lord, may the dream apply to those whohate you, and its meaning to your foes!	16 Allora Daniele, soprannominato Baltassar, incominciò dentro se stesso a pensare in silenzio quasi un'ora e i suoi pensieri lo conturbavano. Onde il re riprendendo a parlare disse: «O Baltassar, il sogno e la sua interpretazione non ti conturbino!». Baltassar rispose e disse: «Signore mio, fosse pur per quei che t'odiano il sogno, e la sua interpretazione pei tuoi nemici!
17 The tree you saw, so large and strong and tal that it reached the sky and could be seen throughoutthe world,	17 L'albero che hai veduto eccelso e robusto, la cui altezza giunge al cielo ed è in vista da tutta la terra,
18 the tree with beautiful foliage and abundant fruit, with food for al in it, providing shade for the wildanimals, with the birds of heaven nesting in its branches:	18 che ha rami magnifici e frutti copiosi e pasto per tutti, sotto di cui le bestie della campagna abitano e sui rami gli uccelli del cielo fanno dimora,
19 that tree is yourself, Your Majesty, for you have grown great and strong; your stature is now so greatthat it reaches the sky, and your empire extends to the ends of the earth.	19 sei tu, o re, che ti sei ingrandito e irrobustito e la tua grandezza crebbe e giunse fino al cielo e la tua potestà fino all'estremità di tutta la terra.
20 'And the Watchful One seen by the king, the holy one coming down from heaven and saying, "Cut thetree down and destroy it, but leave stump and roots in the ground, bound with hoops of iron and bronze in thegrass of the countryside; let it be drenched by the dew and have its lot with the wild animals until seven timeshave passed over it":	20 Quanto poi a ciò che il re ha veduto, discendere un vigile, un santo del cielo e dire: - Tagliate l'albero e disperdetelo, solo il ceppo delle sue radici lasciatelo nel suolo, sia legato con ferro e bronzo tra le erbe all'aperto, sia bagnato dalla rugiada del cielo e cerchi il suo pasto colle fiere, finchè siano trascorsi sopra di lui sette tempi -;
21 the meaning of this, Your Majesty, the verdict of the Most High passed on my lord the king, is this:	21 ha questa interpretazione sentenziata dall'Altissimo che verrà a raggiungere il signore mio, il re.
22 You wil be driven from human society and wil make your home with the wild animals, you will feed ongrass, as oxen do, you wil be drenched by the dew of heaven; seven times will pass over you until you havelearnt that the Most High rules over human sovereignty and confers it on whom he pleases.	22 Ti scacceranno dal consorzio degli uomini e colle bestie e le fiere sarà la tua abitazione, e come un bue mangerai fieno e sarai cosparso dalla rugiada del cielo; di più, sette tempi trascorreranno sopra di te, finchè riconosca che l'Altissimo impera sopra il regno degli uomini e lo affida a chiunque vuole.
23 'And the order, "Leave the stump and roots of the tree", means that your kingdom wil be kept for youuntil you come to understand that Heaven rules all.	23 Quanto poi all'aver ordinato di risparmiare il ceppo delle radici sue, cioè dell'albero, significa che il regno tuo resterà a te, dopo che avrai conosciuto esservi una potestà celeste.
24 May it please the king to accept my advice: by upright actions break with your sins, break with yourcrimes by showing mercy to the poor, and so live long and peacefully.'	24 Per cui, o re, ti sia accetto il mio consiglio: riscattati con elemosine dai tuoi peccati, e dalle tue iniquità con beneficenze ai poveri; forse avrai remissione dalle tue colpe».
25 This al happened to King Nebuchadnezzar.	25 Tutte queste cose sopravvennero al re Nabucodonosor.
26 At the end of twelve months, while strol ing on the roof of the royal palace in Babylon,	26 Sul finire di dodici mesi, egli passeggiava nella reggia di Babilonia.
27 the king was saying, 'Great Babylon! Was it not built by me as a royal residence, by the force of mymight and for the majesty of my glory?'	27 Il re stava dicendo: «Non è questa la grande Babilonia che io ho edificata a sede del regno, col vigore della mia potenza, a gloria della mia maestà?».
28 The words were not out of his mouth when a voice came down from heaven: 'Of you, KingNebuchadnezzar, it is decreed: the empire has been taken from you,	28 Mentre il re aveva ancora sulle labbra queste parole, piombò dal cielo una voce: «A te, o re Nabucodonosor, io dico: - Il tuo regno passerà da te ad altri,
29 you wil be driven from human society and wil make your home with the wild animals; you wil feed ongrass, as oxen do, and seven times wil pass over you until you have learnt that the Most High rules over humansovereignty and gives it to whom he pleases.'	29 ti scacceranno di fra gli uomini e la tua abitazione sarà colle bestie e colle fiere, mangerai erba a guisa del bue, e sette tempi si avvicenderanno sopra di te, fin tanto che riconosca che l'Altissimo impera sul regno degli uomini e a chiunque vuole lo dà! -».
30 The words were immediately fulfilled: Nebuchadnezzar was driven from human society and ate grassas oxen do; he was drenched by the dew of heaven; his hair grew like an eagle's feathers, and his nails becamelike a bird's talons.	30 Nel momento stesso la parola si compì sopra Nabucodonosor; fu scacciato d'in fra gli uomini e si cibò di fieno come un bue, e dalla rugiada del cielo fu cosperso il suo corpo, tanto che i suoi capelli crebbero come le penne delle aquile, e le sue unghie, come gli artigli degli uccelli.
31 'When the time was over, I, Nebuchad- nezzar, raised my eyes to heaven: my reason returned. And Iblessed the Most High, praising and glorifying him who lives for ever, for his empire is an everlasting empire, hiskingship endures, age after age.	31 «Ora in sul finire dei giorni, io Nabucodonosor, alzai gli occhi miei al cielo e la mia mente mi fu restituita e benedissi l'Altissimo e lodai e glorificai Colui che in eterno è vivente, perchè la sua potestà è per sempre e il suo regno pel volgere di tutte le generazioni.
32 Al who dwel on earth count for nothing; as he thinks fit, he disposes the army of heaven and thosewho dwel on earth. No one can arrest his hand or ask him, "What have you done?"	32 E tutti gli abitanti della terra rispetto a lui non contano nulla, perchè a grado della sua volontà opera tanto nelle potestà del cielo, quanto negli abitanti della terra e non c'è alcuno che resista alla sua mano e che gli dica: - Perchè hai fatto questo? -
33 'At that moment my reason returned and, for the honour of my royal state, my glory and splendourreturned too. My counsel ors and noblemen acclaimed me; I was restored to my throne, and to my pastgreatness even more was added.	33 Da quel tempo ebbi ricuperata la mia mente e rientrai all'onore e alla magnificenza del mio regno, e anche il mio aspetto mi fu restituito, e i nobili miei e i miei magistrati mi ricercarono e fui restituito nel mio regno; anzi una più cospicua magnificenza venne ad aggiungersi a me.
34 And now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, extol and glorify the King of heaven, al of whose deeds are true,al of whose ways are right, and who can humble those who walk in pride.'	34 Or dunque io, Nabucodonosor, lodo, magnifico e glorifico il Re del cielo; perchè tutte le opere sue sono vere e i suoi procedimenti giusti e coloro che incedono con superbia li può umiliare».
