Daniel 4

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 'I, Nebuchadnezzar, was living comfortably in my house, prosperously in my palace.	1 Io, Nabucodònosor, ero tranquillo nella mia casa e felice nel mio palazzo,
2 I had a dream; it appal ed me. Dread assailed me as I lay in bed; the visions that passed through myhead tormented me.	2 quando ebbi un sogno che mi spaventò. Mentre ero nel mio letto, le immaginazioni e le visioni della mia mente mi turbarono.
3 So I decreed that all the sages of Babylon be summoned to explain to me what the dream meant.	3 Feci un decreto con cui ordinavo che tutti i saggi di Babilonia fossero condotti davanti a me, per farmi conoscere la spiegazione del sogno.
4 Magicians, soothsayers, Chaldaeans and exorcists came, and I told them what I had dreamt, but theycould not interpret it for me.	4 Allora vennero i maghi, gli indovini, i Caldei e gli astrologi, ai quali esposi il sogno, ma non me ne potevano dare la spiegazione.
5 Daniel, renamed Belteshazzar after my own god, and in whom the spirit of the holy gods resides, thencame into my presence. I told him my dream:	5 Infine mi si presentò Daniele, chiamato Baltassàr dal nome del mio dio, un uomo in cui è lo spirito degli dèi santi, e gli raccontai il sogno
6 ' "Belteshazzar, chief of magicians," I said, "I know that the spirit of the holy gods resides in you and that no mystery puts you at a loss. This is the dream I have had; tel me what it means.	6 dicendo: «Baltassàr, principe dei maghi, poiché io so che lo spirito degli dèi santi è in te e che nessun mistero ti è difficile, ecco le visioni che ho avuto in sogno: tu dammene la spiegazione.
7 ' "The visions that passed through my head as I lay in bed were these: I saw a tree in the middle of theworld; it was very tal .	7 Le visioni che mi passarono per la mente, mentre stavo a letto, erano queste: Io stavo guardando, ed ecco un albero di grande altezza in mezzo alla terra.
8 The tree grew tal er and stronger, until its top reached the sky and it could be seen from the very endsof the earth.	8 Quell’albero divenne alto, robusto, la sua cima giungeva al cielo ed era visibile fino all’estremità della terra.
9 Its foliage was beautiful, its fruit abundant, in it was food for al . For the wild animals it provided shade,the birds of heaven nested in its branches, al living creatures found their food on it.	9 Le sue foglie erano belle e i suoi frutti abbondanti e vi era in esso da mangiare per tutti. Le bestie del campo si riparavano alla sua ombra e gli uccelli del cielo dimoravano fra i suoi rami; di esso si nutriva ogni vivente.
10 ' "I watched the visions passing through my head as I lay in bed: Next, a Watchful One, a holy one,came down from heaven.	10 Mentre nel mio letto stavo osservando le visioni che mi passavano per la mente, ecco un vigilante, un santo, scese dal cielo
11 At the top of his voice he shouted: Cut the tree down, lop off its branches, strip off its leaves, throwaway its fruit; let the animals flee from its shelter and the birds from its branches.	11 e gridò a voce alta: “Tagliate l’albero e troncate i suoi rami: scuotete le foglie, disperdetene i frutti: fuggano le bestie di sotto e gli uccelli dai suoi rami.
12 But leave the stump with its roots in the ground, bound with hoops of iron and bronze, in the grass ofthe countryside. Let it be drenched by the dew of heaven and have its lot with the animals, eating grass!	12 Lasciate però nella terra il ceppo con le radici, legato con catene di ferro e di bronzo sull’erba fresca del campo; sia bagnato dalla rugiada del cielo e abbia sorte comune con le bestie sull’erba della terra.
13 Let it cease to have a human heart, and be given the heart of a beast, and seven times shal passover him!	13 Si muti il suo cuore e invece di un cuore umano gli sia dato un cuore di bestia; sette tempi passino su di lui.
14 Such is the sentence proclaimed by the Watchers, the verdict announced by the holy ones- so thatevery living thing may learn that the Most High rules over human sovereignty; he confers it on whom he pleases,and raises the lowest of humankind.	14 Così è deciso per sentenza dei vigilanti e secondo la parola dei santi. Così i viventi sappiano che l’Altissimo domina sul regno degli uomini e che egli lo può dare a chi vuole e insediarvi anche il più piccolo degli uomini”.
15 ' "This was the dream I had-I, Nebuchadnezzar the king. Now it is for you, Belteshazzar, to pronounceon its meaning, since not one of the sages in my kingdom has been able to interpret it for me; you, however, cando so, since the spirit of the holy gods resides in you." '	15 Questo è il sogno, che io, re Nabucodònosor, ho fatto. Ora tu, Baltassàr, dammene la spiegazione. Tu puoi darmela, perché, mentre fra tutti i saggi del mio regno nessuno me ne spiega il significato, in te è lo spirito degli dèi santi».
16 Daniel, known as Belteshazzar, was confused for a time and upset. The king said, 'Belteshazzar, donot be upset at the dream and its meaning.' Belteshazzar answered, 'My lord, may the dream apply to those whohate you, and its meaning to your foes!	16 Allora Daniele, chiamato Baltassàr, rimase per qualche tempo confuso e turbato dai suoi pensieri. Ma il re gli disse: «Baltassàr, il sogno non ti turbi e neppure la sua spiegazione». Rispose Baltassàr: «Signore mio, valga il sogno per i tuoi nemici e la sua spiegazione per i tuoi avversari.
17 The tree you saw, so large and strong and tal that it reached the sky and could be seen throughoutthe world,	17 L’albero che tu hai visto, alto e robusto, la cui cima giungeva fino al cielo ed era visibile per tutta la terra
18 the tree with beautiful foliage and abundant fruit, with food for al in it, providing shade for the wildanimals, with the birds of heaven nesting in its branches:	18 e le cui foglie erano belle e i frutti abbondanti e in cui c’era da mangiare per tutti e sotto il quale dimoravano le bestie della terra e sui cui rami abitavano gli uccelli del cielo,
19 that tree is yourself, Your Majesty, for you have grown great and strong; your stature is now so greatthat it reaches the sky, and your empire extends to the ends of the earth.	19 sei tu, o re, che sei diventato grande e forte; la tua grandezza è cresciuta, è giunta al cielo e il tuo dominio si è esteso fino all’estremità della terra.
20 'And the Watchful One seen by the king, the holy one coming down from heaven and saying, "Cut thetree down and destroy it, but leave stump and roots in the ground, bound with hoops of iron and bronze in thegrass of the countryside; let it be drenched by the dew and have its lot with the wild animals until seven timeshave passed over it":	20 Che il re abbia visto un vigilante, un santo che discendeva dal cielo e diceva: “Tagliate l’albero, spezzatelo, però lasciate nella terra il ceppo con le sue radici, legato con catene di ferro e di bronzo sull’erba fresca del campo; sia bagnato dalla rugiada del cielo e abbia sorte comune con le bestie del campo, finché sette tempi siano passati su di lui”,
21 the meaning of this, Your Majesty, the verdict of the Most High passed on my lord the king, is this:	21 questa, o re, ne è la spiegazione e questo è il decreto dell’Altissimo, che deve essere eseguito sopra il re, mio signore:
22 You wil be driven from human society and wil make your home with the wild animals, you will feed ongrass, as oxen do, you wil be drenched by the dew of heaven; seven times will pass over you until you havelearnt that the Most High rules over human sovereignty and confers it on whom he pleases.	22 Tu sarai cacciato dal consorzio umano e la tua dimora sarà con le bestie del campo; ti pascerai di erba come i buoi e sarai bagnato dalla rugiada del cielo; sette tempi passeranno su di te, finché tu riconosca che l’Altissimo domina sul regno degli uomini e che egli lo dà a chi vuole.
23 'And the order, "Leave the stump and roots of the tree", means that your kingdom wil be kept for youuntil you come to understand that Heaven rules all.	23 L’ordine che è stato dato di lasciare il ceppo con le radici dell’albero significa che il tuo regno ti sarà ristabilito, quando avrai riconosciuto che al Cielo appartiene il dominio.
24 May it please the king to accept my advice: by upright actions break with your sins, break with yourcrimes by showing mercy to the poor, and so live long and peacefully.'	24 Perciò, o re, accetta il mio consiglio: sconta i tuoi peccati con l’elemosina e le tue iniquità con atti di misericordia verso gli afflitti, perché tu possa godere lunga prosperità».
25 This al happened to King Nebuchadnezzar.	25 Tutto questo accadde al re Nabucodònosor.
26 At the end of twelve months, while strol ing on the roof of the royal palace in Babylon,	26 Dodici mesi dopo, passeggiando sopra la terrazza del palazzo reale di Babilonia,
27 the king was saying, 'Great Babylon! Was it not built by me as a royal residence, by the force of mymight and for the majesty of my glory?'	27 il re prese a dire: «Non è questa la grande Babilonia che io ho costruito come reggia con la forza della mia potenza e per la gloria della mia maestà?».
28 The words were not out of his mouth when a voice came down from heaven: 'Of you, KingNebuchadnezzar, it is decreed: the empire has been taken from you,	28 Queste parole erano ancora sulle labbra del re, quando una voce venne dal cielo: «A te io parlo, o re Nabucodònosor: il regno ti è tolto!
29 you wil be driven from human society and wil make your home with the wild animals; you wil feed ongrass, as oxen do, and seven times wil pass over you until you have learnt that the Most High rules over humansovereignty and gives it to whom he pleases.'	29 Sarai cacciato dal consorzio umano e la tua dimora sarà con le bestie del campo; ti pascerai di erba come i buoi e passeranno sette tempi su di te, finché tu riconosca che l’Altissimo domina sul regno degli uomini e che egli lo dà a chi vuole».
30 The words were immediately fulfilled: Nebuchadnezzar was driven from human society and ate grassas oxen do; he was drenched by the dew of heaven; his hair grew like an eagle's feathers, and his nails becamelike a bird's talons.	30 In quel momento stesso si adempì la parola sopra Nabucodònosor. Egli fu cacciato dal consorzio umano, mangiò l’erba come i buoi e il suo corpo fu bagnato dalla rugiada del cielo, i capelli gli crebbero come le penne alle aquile e le unghie come agli uccelli.
31 'When the time was over, I, Nebuchad- nezzar, raised my eyes to heaven: my reason returned. And Iblessed the Most High, praising and glorifying him who lives for ever, for his empire is an everlasting empire, hiskingship endures, age after age.	31 «Ma finito quel tempo io, Nabucodònosor, alzai gli occhi al cielo e la ragione tornò in me e benedissi l’Altissimo; lodai e glorificai colui che vive in eterno, il cui potere è potere eterno e il cui regno è di generazione in generazione.
32 Al who dwel on earth count for nothing; as he thinks fit, he disposes the army of heaven and thosewho dwel on earth. No one can arrest his hand or ask him, "What have you done?"	32 Tutti gli abitanti della terra sono, davanti a lui, come un nulla; egli tratta come vuole le schiere del cielo e gli abitanti della terra. Nessuno può fermargli la mano e dirgli: “Che cosa fai?”.
33 'At that moment my reason returned and, for the honour of my royal state, my glory and splendourreturned too. My counsel ors and noblemen acclaimed me; I was restored to my throne, and to my pastgreatness even more was added.	33 In quel tempo tornò in me la conoscenza e, con la gloria del regno, mi fu restituita la mia maestà e il mio splendore: i miei ministri e i miei dignitari mi ricercarono e io fui ristabilito nel mio regno e mi fu concesso un potere anche più grande.
34 And now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, extol and glorify the King of heaven, al of whose deeds are true,al of whose ways are right, and who can humble those who walk in pride.'	34 Ora io, Nabucodònosor, lodo, esalto e glorifico il Re del cielo: tutte le sue opere sono vere e le sue vie sono giuste; egli ha il potere di umiliare coloro che camminano nella superbia».
