NEW JERUSALEMVULGATA
He then took me out into the outer court on the north side and led me to the room facing the court, thatis to say, to the front of the building on the north side.1 Et eduxit me in atrium exterius, per viam ducentem ad aquilonem, et introduxit me in gazophylacium quod erat contra separatum ædificium, et contra ædem vergentem ad aquilonem.
Along the front, it was a hundred cubits long on the north side and fifty cubits wide.2 In facie longitudinis, centum cubitos ostii aquilonis, et latitudinis quinquaginta cubitos,
Facing the gateways of the inner court and facing the paving of the outer court was a gal ery in front ofthe triple gal ery,3 contra viginti cubitos atrii interioris, et contra pavimentum stratum lapide atrii exterioris, ubi erat porticus juncta porticui triplici.
and in front of the rooms was a walk, ten cubits measured inwards and a hundred cubits long; theirdoors looked north.4 Et ante gazophylacia deambulatio decem cubitorum latitudinis, ad interiora respiciens viæ cubiti unius. Et ostia eorum ad aquilonem :
The top-floor rooms were narrow because the gal eries took up part of the width, being narrower thanthose on the ground floor or those on the middle floor of the building;5 ubi erant gazophylacia in superioribus humiliora, quia supportabant porticus quæ ex illis eminebant de inferioribus, et de mediis ædificii.
these were divided into three storeys and had no columns such as the court had. Hence they werenarrower than the ground floor ones or the middle-floor ones (below them).6 Tristega enim erant, et non habebant columnas, sicut erant columnæ atriorum : propterea eminebant de inferioribus, et de mediis a terra cubitis quinquaginta.
The outer wal paral el to the rooms, facing them and giving onto the outer court, was fifty cubits long,7 Et peribolus exterior secundum gazophylacia, quæ erant in via atrii exterioris ante gazophylacia : longitudo ejus quinquaginta cubitorum :
the length of the rooms facing the outer court being fifty cubits, while for those facing the hal of theTemple it was a hundred cubits.8 quia longitudo erat gazophylaciorum atrii exterioris quinquaginta cubitorum, et longitudo ante faciem templi, centum cubitorum.
Beneath the rooms there was an entrance from the east, leading in from the outer court.9 Et erat subter gazophylacia hæc introitus ab oriente, ingredientium in ea de atrio exteriori.
In the thickness of the wal of the court, on the south side fronting the court and the building, wererooms.10 In latitudine periboli atrii quod erat contra viam orientalem, in faciem ædificii separati, et erant ante ædificium gazophylacia.
A walk ran in front of them, as with the rooms built on the north side; they were of the same lengthand breadth, and were of similar design with similar doors in and out.11 Et via ante faciem eorum, juxta similitudinem gazophylaciorum quæ erant in via aquilonis : secundum longitudinem eorum, sic et latitudo eorum, et omnis introitus eorum, et similitudines, et ostia eorum.
Before the rooms on the south side there was an entrance at the end of each walk, opposite thecorresponding wall on the east side, at their entries.12 Secundum ostia gazophylaciorum, quæ erant in via respiciente ad notum : ostium in capite viæ, quæ via erat ante vestibulum separatum per viam orientalem ingredientibus.
He said to me, 'The northern and southern rooms giving onto the court are the rooms of thesanctuary, in which the priests who approach Yahweh will eat the most holy things. In them will be placed themost holy things: the oblation, the sacrifice for sin and the sacrifice of reparation, since this is a holy place.13 Et dixit ad me : Gazophylacia aquilonis, et gazophylacia austri, quæ sunt ante ædificium separatum, hæc sunt gazophylacia sancta, in quibus vescuntur sacerdotes qui appropinquant ad Dominum in Sancta sanctorum : ibi ponent Sancta sanctorum et oblationem pro peccato et pro delicto : locus enim sanctus est.
Once the priests have entered, they wil not go out of the holy place into the outer court withoutleaving their liturgical vestments there, since these vestments are holy; they will put on other clothes beforegoing near places assigned to the people.'14 Cum autem ingressi fuerint sacerdotes, non egredientur de sanctis in atrium exterius : et ibi reponent vestimenta sua in quibus ministrant, quia sancta sunt, vestienturque vestimentis aliis : et sic procedent ad populum.
When he had finished measuring the inside of the Temple, he took me out to the east gate andmeasured it right round the sides.15 Cumque complesset mensuras domus interioris, eduxit me per viam portæ quæ respiciebat ad viam orientalem : et mensus est eam undique per circuitum.
He measured the east side with his measuring rod: a total of five hundred cubits by the measuringrod.16 Mensus est autem contra ventum orientalem calamo mensuræ, quingentos calamos in calamo mensuræ per circuitum.
He then measured the north side: a total of five hundred cubits by the measuring rod.17 Et mensus est contra ventum aquilonis quingentos calamos in calamo mensuræ per gyrum.
He then measured the south side: five hundred cubits by the measuring rod18 Et ad ventum australem mensus est quingentos calamos in calamo mensuræ per circuitum.
was the total. On the west side he measured five hundred cubits by the measuring rod.19 Et ad ventum occidentalem mensus est quingentos calamos in calamo mensuræ.
He measured the entire enclosing wall on al four sides: length five hundred, breadth five hundred, separating the sacred from the profane.20 Per quatuor ventos mensus est murum ejus undique per circuitum, longitudinem quingentorum cubitorum, et latitudinem quingentorum cubitorum, dividentem inter sanctuarium et vulgi locum.
