NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
He then took me out into the outer court on the north side and led me to the room facing the court, thatis to say, to the front of the building on the north side.1 Et eduxit me in atrium ex terius per viam ducentem ad aquilonem; etduxit me ad exedram, quae erat contra aream separatam, et contra aedem adaquilonem.
Along the front, it was a hundred cubits long on the north side and fifty cubits wide.2 Longitudo erat centum cubitorum in latere aquilonis et latitudoquinquaginta cubitorum.
Facing the gateways of the inner court and facing the paving of the outer court was a gal ery in front ofthe triple gal ery,3 Contra viginti cubitos atrii interioris et contrapavimentum stratum lapide atrii exterioris elevabatur pars iuxta partem intribus gradibus.
and in front of the rooms was a walk, ten cubits measured inwards and a hundred cubits long; theirdoors looked north.4 Et ante exedras deambulatio decem cubitorum latitudinis, adinteriora respiciens, longitudinis centum cubitorum; et ostia eorum adaquilonem.
The top-floor rooms were narrow because the gal eries took up part of the width, being narrower thanthose on the ground floor or those on the middle floor of the building;5 Exedrae superiores angustiores erant, quia gradus auferebant eisspatium, prae inferioribus et mediis aedificii.
these were divided into three storeys and had no columns such as the court had. Hence they werenarrower than the ground floor ones or the middle-floor ones (below them).6 Tristega enim erant et nonhabebant columnas, sicut erant columnae exteriorum; sic ergo in gradibus deinferioribus, et de mediis a terra surgebat aedificium.
The outer wal paral el to the rooms, facing them and giving onto the outer court, was fifty cubits long,7 Et murus exteriorsecundum exedras erat in via atrii exterioris ante exedras, longitudo eiusquinquaginta cubitorum,
the length of the rooms facing the outer court being fifty cubits, while for those facing the hal of theTemple it was a hundred cubits.8 quia longitudo erat exedrarum atrii exteriorisquinquaginta cubitorum, quae erant ante faciem illarum, totum erat centumcubitorum.
Beneath the rooms there was an entrance from the east, leading in from the outer court.9 Et erat subter exedras has introitus ab oriente ingredientibus inea de atrio exteriori
In the thickness of the wal of the court, on the south side fronting the court and the building, wererooms.10 in capite muri atrii. Contra viam meridianam in facieareae separatae, et erant exedrae ante aedificium,
A walk ran in front of them, as with the rooms built on the north side; they were of the same lengthand breadth, and were of similar design with similar doors in and out.11 et via ante faciem earumiuxta similitudinem exedrarum, quae erant in via aquilonis; secundumlongitudinem earum et latitudinem earum, sic et omnes exitus earum etdispositiones et ostia earum.
Before the rooms on the south side there was an entrance at the end of each walk, opposite thecorresponding wall on the east side, at their entries.12 Et ad ostia exedrarum, quae erant in viarespiciente ad notum, ostium in capite viae, quae via erat ante murumprotegentem per viam orientalem ingredientibus.
He said to me, 'The northern and southern rooms giving onto the court are the rooms of thesanctuary, in which the priests who approach Yahweh will eat the most holy things. In them will be placed themost holy things: the oblation, the sacrifice for sin and the sacrifice of reparation, since this is a holy place.13 Et dixit ad me: “Exedraeaquilonis et exedrae austri, quae sunt ante aream separatam, hae sunt exedraesanctae, in quibus vescuntur sacerdotes, qui appropinquant ad Dominum sanctasanctorum: ibi ponent sancta sanctorum et oblationem et pro peccato et prodelicto, locus enim sanctus est.
Once the priests have entered, they wil not go out of the holy place into the outer court withoutleaving their liturgical vestments there, since these vestments are holy; they will put on other clothes beforegoing near places assigned to the people.'14 Cum autem ingressi fuerint sacerdotes, nonegredientur de sanctis in atrium exterius, sed ibi reponent vestimenta sua, inquibus ministrant, quia sancta sunt; vestienturque vestimentis aliis et sicprocedent ad locum populi ”.
When he had finished measuring the inside of the Temple, he took me out to the east gate andmeasured it right round the sides.15 Cumque complesset mensuras interioris areae domus, eduxit me per viam portae, quae respiciebat ad viam orientalem, et mensus est ibi undique per circuitum.
He measured the east side with his measuring rod: a total of five hundred cubits by the measuringrod.16 Mensus est autem contra ventum orientalem calamo mensurae quingentos calamos incalamo mensurae per circuitum.
He then measured the north side: a total of five hundred cubits by the measuring rod.17 Et mensus est contra ventum aquilonisquingentos calamos in calamo mensurae per gyrum.
He then measured the south side: five hundred cubits by the measuring rod18 Et ad ventum australemmensus est quingentos calamos in calamo mensurae per circuitum.
was the total. On the west side he measured five hundred cubits by the measuring rod.19 Et conversusad ventum occidentalem mensus est quingentos calamos in calamo mensurae.
He measured the entire enclosing wall on al four sides: length five hundred, breadth five hundred, separating the sacred from the profane.20 Perquattuor ventos mensus est illud; murus ei erat undique per circuitumlongitudine quingentorum cubitorum et latitudine quingentorum cubitorum, dividens inter sanctuarium et locum profanum.
