Ezekiel 18

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,	1 Il Signore mi parlò e mi disse:
2 'Why do you keep repeating this proverb in the land of Israel: The parents have eaten unripe grapes;and the children's teeth are set on edge?	2 « Perchè tra voi circola questo proverbio a proposito della terra d'Israele, e dite: — I padri mangiarono l'uva acerba e si sono allegati i denti ai figlioli? —
3 'As I live -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- you wil have no further cause to repeat this proverb in Israel.	3 Io sono il Vivente! — dice il Signore. — Questa parabola non salò più per voi un proverbio in Israele.
4 Look, al life belongs to me; the father's life and the son's life, both alike belong to me. The one whohas sinned is the one to die.	4 Ecco che tutte le anime sono mie, quella del padre, come quelle del figlio, è mia, e morirà l'anima che ha peccato.
5 'But if a man is upright, his actions law-abiding and upright,	5 Se un uomo sarà giusto, e vivrà secondo il diritto e la giustizia:
6 and he does not eat on the mountains or raise his eyes to the foul idols of the House of Israel, doesnot defile his neighbour's wife or touch a woman during her periods,	6 se non mangerà sui monti, non alzerà i suoi occhi agli idoli della casa d'Israele, non peccherà colla moglie del suo prossimo, non s'accosterà a donna immonda,
7 oppresses no one, returns the pledge on a debt, does not rob, gives his own food to the hungry, hisclothes to those who lack clothing,	7 non offenderà nessuno, renderà il pegno al debitore, non commetterà rapine, darà il suo pane all'affamato, rivestirà l'ignudo,
8 does not lend for profit, does not charge interest, abstains from evil, gives honest judgement betweenone person and another,	8 non presterà ad usura, non riceverà più di quanto ha dato, ritrarrà la sua mano dall'iniquità, giudicherà con verità tra uomo e uomo,
9 keeps my laws and sincerely respects my judgements -- someone like this is truly upright and will live-- declares the Lord Yahweh.	9 camminerà nei miei precetti e osserverà le mie leggi, operando con fedeltà, questi è giusto e vivrà di vera vita — dice il Signore Dio.
10 'But if he has a son prone to violence and bloodshed, who commits one of these misdeeds-	10 Or se egli avrà un figliolo assassino omicida, che abbia fatto una di questo cose,
11 even though the father never has -- a son who dares to eat on the mountains, who defiles hisneighbour's wife,	11 anche se non le ha fatte tutte, uno che mangia sui monti, contamina la moglie del suo prossimo;
12 who oppresses the poor and needy, robs, fails to return pledges, raises his eyes to foul idols,engages in loathsome practices,	12 opprime il povero e l'infelice, fa rapine, non rende il pegno, alza gli occhi ai suoi simulacri, commette abominazioni;
13 lends for profit, or charges interest, such a person will by no means live; having committed al theseappal ing crimes he wil die, and his blood be on his own head.	13 dà a usura e riceve più di quanto ha dato, avrà forse la vita? No, non l'avrà la vita: avendo fatte tutte queste cose detestabili, egli certamente morrà, e il suo sangue cadrà sopra di lui.
14 'But if he in turn has a son who, in spite of seeing al the sins that his father has committed, does notimitate him,	14 Se questi poi avrà un figliolo il quale, veduti tutti i peccati commessi dal padre, ne abbia spavento, e non lo imiti in questi,
15 does not eat on the mountains or raise his eyes to the foul idols of the House of Israel, does notdefile his neighbour's wife,	15 e non mangi sui monti, non alzi gli occhi agli idoli della casa d'Israele, non violi la moglie del suo prossimo,
16 oppresses no one, takes no pledges, does not rob, gives his own food to the hungry, his clothes tothose who lack clothing,	16 non offenda alcuno, non ritenga il pegno, non faccia rapine, dia del suo pane affamato, rivesta l'ignudo,
17 abstains from evil, does not lend for profit or charge interest, respects my judgements and keeps mylaws, he will not die for his father's sins: he wil most certainly live.	17 ritenga la sua mano dal fare ingiuria al povero, non prenda ad usura, nè più di quanto ha dato, osservi le mie leggi, cammini nei miei precetti, questi non morrà per l'iniquità del padre suo, ma avrà vera vita.
18 But his father, because he was violent, robbed others and never did good among his people, willmost certainly die in his guilt.	18 Il padre di lui, perchè calunniò, fece violenze al fratello, fece del male in mezzo al popolo, ecco è morto per la sua iniquità.
19 'Now, you say, "Why doesn't the son bear his father's guilt?" If the son has been law-abiding andupright, has kept al my laws and fol owed them, most certainly he wil live.	19 E voi a dire: — Perchè il figliolo non ha portato l'iniquità di suo padre? — Certamente, perchè il figliolo ha agito secondo la legge e la giustizia, ha custoditi e osservati tutti i miei precetti, avrà vita.
20 The one who has sinned is the one who must die; a son is not to bear his father's guilt, nor a fatherhis son's guilt. The upright wil be credited with his uprightness, and the wicked with his wickedness.	20 L'anima che ha peccato, quella morrà; e il figlio non porterà l'iniquità del padre, nè il padre, quella del figlio: sul capo del giusto sarà la giustizia e su quello dell'empio l'empietà.
21 'If the wicked, however, renounces al the sins he has committed, respects my laws and is law-abiding and upright, he wil most certainly live; he will not die.	21 Ma se l'empio fa penitenza di tutti i suoi peccati che ha fatti, e osserva i miei precetti, e agisce secondo equità e giustizia, avrà la vera vita e non morrà.
22 None of the crimes he committed wil be remembered against him from then on; he wil most certainlylive because of his upright actions.	22 Non ricorderò più nulla di tutte le iniquità da lui commesse; avrà vita per la giustizia da lui praticata.
23 Would I take pleasure in the death of the wicked -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- and not prefer to seehim renounce his wickedness and live?	23 Voglio forse la morte del peccatore — dice il Signore Dio — o non piuttosto che egli si converta dal suo malfare e viva?
24 'But if the upright abandons uprightness and does wrong by copying all the loathsome practices ofthe wicked, is he to live? Al his upright actions will be forgotten from then on; for the infidelity of which he isguilty and the sin which he has committed, he wil most certainly die.	24 Ma se il giusto si allontanerà dalla sua giustizia e commetterà l'iniquità, secondo le abominazioni proprie dell'empio, potrà aver la vita? Tutte le opere buone da lui fatte saran dimenticate, a causa della trasgressione di cui s'è reso colpevole, e del peccato da lui commesso, a causa di questo morrà.
25 'Now, you say, "What the Lord does is unjust." Now listen, House of Israel: is what I do unjust? Is itnot what you do that is unjust?	25 Voi avete detto: — il modo di fare del Signore non è giusto. — Udite dunque, o casa d'Israele: è il mio modo di fare che non è giusto, o è piuttosto perverso il vostro?
26 When the upright abandons uprightness and does wrong and dies, he dies because of the wrongwhich he himself has done.	26 Infatti, quando il giusto, allontanandosi dalla sua giustizia, peccherà e morrà nel peccato, morrà a causa dell'ingiustizia da lui commessa.
27 Similarly, when the wicked abandons wickedness to become law-abiding and upright, he saves hisown life.	27 Così, quando l'empio, allontanandosi dall'empietà e dal peccato da lui commesso, praticherà l'equità e la giustizia, egli renderà la vita all'anima sua;
28 Having chosen to renounce al his previous crimes, he wil most certainly live: he wil not die.	28 quando, tornato in se stesso, si allontanerà da tutte le iniquità che ha fatte, avrà vita e non morrà.
29 And yet the House of Israel says, "What the Lord does is unjust." Is what I do unjust, House of Israel?Is it not what you do that is unjust?	29 E i figli d'Israele a dire: — Il modo d'agire del Signore non è giusto! — Son le mie vie che non son diritte, o casa d'Israele, o son piuttosto storte le vostre?
30 So in future, House of Israel, I shal judge each of you by what that person does -- declares the LordYahweh. Repent, renounce al your crimes, avoid al occasions for guilt.	30 Per questo, o casa d'Israele, io giudicherò ciascuno secondo il suo modo di agire, — dice il Signore Dio. Convertitevi, fate penitenza di tutte le vostre iniquità, e l'iniquità non sarà più la vostra rovina.
31 Shake off all the crimes you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit!Why die, House of Israel?	31 Gettate lungi da voi tutte le trasgressioni da voi commesse, e fatevi un cuor nuovo ed uno spirito nuovo. E perchè andrete a morire, o casa di Israele?
32 I take no pleasure in the death of anyone -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- so repent and live!'	32 Giacchè io non voglio la morte di colui che muore, — dice il Signore — convertitevi, tornate alla vita ».
