Ezekiel 18

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,	1 - E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:
2 'Why do you keep repeating this proverb in the land of Israel: The parents have eaten unripe grapes;and the children's teeth are set on edge?	2 «Che vuol dire che tra voi andate applicando alla terra d'Israele quel proverbio che dice: " I padri mangiarono l'uva acerba e i denti dei figli si sono allegati? "
3 'As I live -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- you wil have no further cause to repeat this proverb in Israel.	3 Vivo io, dice il Signore Dio, che questo detto non applicherete più oltre in proverbio a Israele.
4 Look, al life belongs to me; the father's life and the son's life, both alike belong to me. The one whohas sinned is the one to die.	4 Ecco che tutte le anime sono mie, come l'anima del padre così l'anima del figlio è mia; l'anima che avrà peccato, quella morirà.
5 'But if a man is upright, his actions law-abiding and upright,	5 E l'uomo, se si manterrà giusto e praticherà i doveri di giustizia,
6 and he does not eat on the mountains or raise his eyes to the foul idols of the House of Israel, doesnot defile his neighbour's wife or touch a woman during her periods,	6 se non mangerà sui monti e non alzerà gli occhi agl'idoli della casa d'Israele; se non violenterà la moglie del suo prossimo e non si accosterà alla donna nelle sue ricorrenze;
7 oppresses no one, returns the pledge on a debt, does not rob, gives his own food to the hungry, hisclothes to those who lack clothing,	7 se non farà torto ad alcuno; se restituirà il pegno al debitore e nulla rapirà per forza; se dividerà il suo pane con chi ha fame e darà da vestire all'ignudo;
8 does not lend for profit, does not charge interest, abstains from evil, gives honest judgement betweenone person and another,	8 e se non presterà a usura e non esigerà più del dovuto; se si ritrarrà dall'accettare di sotto mano a scopo iniquo; se farà giudizio secondo verità tra uomo e uomo;
9 keeps my laws and sincerely respects my judgements -- someone like this is truly upright and will live-- declares the Lord Yahweh.	9 se camminerà nei miei precetti e osserverà le mie leggi per operar coscienziosamente; questi è giusto, vivrà, dice il Signore Dio.
10 'But if he has a son prone to violence and bloodshed, who commits one of these misdeeds-	10 Che se costui avrà generato un figlio, ladrone, spargitore di sangue; che commetta qualcuno dei sopraddetti delitti;
11 even though the father never has -- a son who dares to eat on the mountains, who defiles hisneighbour's wife,	11 e mentre il padre non ne commette alcuno, questo figlio intervenga a mangiare sui monti; contamini la moglie del suo prossimo;
12 who oppresses the poor and needy, robs, fails to return pledges, raises his eyes to foul idols,engages in loathsome practices,	12 maltratti il povero e il bisognoso; compia delle rapine; si rifiuti di rendere il pegno; alzi i suoi occhi agl'idoli e faccia cose abominevoli,
13 lends for profit, or charges interest, such a person will by no means live; having committed al theseappal ing crimes he wil die, and his blood be on his own head.	13 esercitando le usure ed esigendo più del debito: vivrà costui? No, non vivrà, avendo egli compiuto tutte queste cose detestabili: morirà, morirà; porterà con sè le conseguenze della sua colpa.
14 'But if he in turn has a son who, in spite of seeing al the sins that his father has committed, does notimitate him,	14 Che se uno avrà generato un figlio il quale, vedendo tutti i peccati che suo padre ha commesso, concepirà timore e non farà il somigliante;
15 does not eat on the mountains or raise his eyes to the foul idols of the House of Israel, does notdefile his neighbour's wife,	15 non mangerà sui monti, non alzerà i suoi occhi agl'idoli della casa d'Israele; e non violerà la moglie del suo prossimo;
16 oppresses no one, takes no pledges, does not rob, gives his own food to the hungry, his clothes tothose who lack clothing,	16 non maltratterà alcuno, non riterrà il pegno, non farà rapine; darà il suo pane all'affamato e da vestire all'ignudo;
17 abstains from evil, does not lend for profit or charge interest, respects my judgements and keeps mylaws, he will not die for his father's sins: he wil most certainly live.	17 ritirerà la sua mano dal prendere per far torto al povero; non esigerà usura e interessi; osserverà le mie leggi e camminerà nei miei precetti: questi non morrà nell'iniquità del padre suo, ma vivrà.
18 But his father, because he was violent, robbed others and never did good among his people, willmost certainly die in his guilt.	18 Quel padre che ha fatto torto e violenza al fratello e ha operato malamente in mezzo al suo popolo, ecco, è morto nella sua iniquità.
19 'Now, you say, "Why doesn't the son bear his father's guilt?" If the son has been law-abiding andupright, has kept al my laws and fol owed them, most certainly he wil live.	19 Voi direte: - Perchè il figlio non portò la pena dell'iniquità del padre? - È chiaro, giacchè il figlio ha compiuto i suoi doveri e la giustizia e ha osservato tutti i miei precetti mettendoli in pratica, vivrà.
20 The one who has sinned is the one who must die; a son is not to bear his father's guilt, nor a fatherhis son's guilt. The upright wil be credited with his uprightness, and the wicked with his wickedness.	20 L'anima che avrà peccato, quella morrà, il figlio non porterà l'iniquità del padre e il padre non porterà l'iniquità del figlio; la giustizia del giusto sarà a carico suo e così l'empietà dell'empio sarà a carico suo.
21 'If the wicked, however, renounces al the sins he has committed, respects my laws and is law-abiding and upright, he wil most certainly live; he will not die.	21 Se poi l'empio farà penitenza di tutti i peccati che ha commessi e osserverà tutti i miei precetti e compirà i suoi doveri e la giustizia, vivrà e non morrà.
22 None of the crimes he committed wil be remembered against him from then on; he wil most certainlylive because of his upright actions.	22 Di tutti i mancamenti che ha commessi io più nulla ricorderò; nella pratica della sua giustizia egli vivrà.
23 Would I take pleasure in the death of the wicked -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- and not prefer to seehim renounce his wickedness and live?	23 Potrei io volere la morte dell'empio, dice il Signore Dio, e non piuttosto che si converta dalla sua mala condotta e viva?
24 'But if the upright abandons uprightness and does wrong by copying all the loathsome practices ofthe wicked, is he to live? Al his upright actions will be forgotten from then on; for the infidelity of which he isguilty and the sin which he has committed, he wil most certainly die.	24 Ma se il giusto avrà traviato dalla sua giustizia e avrà iniquamente operato secondo tutte le abominazioni che l'empio commetter suole, potrà vivere? Tutte le sue opere giuste che avrà compiute non saranno più ricordate; nella prevaricazione in cui ha traviato e nel suo peccato che ha commesso, in questi morrà.
25 'Now, you say, "What the Lord does is unjust." Now listen, House of Israel: is what I do unjust? Is itnot what you do that is unjust?	25 E voi avete detto: - No, la maniera di proceder del Signore non è giusta! - Ascoltatemi allora, o casa d'Israele: sarà il modo mio di procedere che non è giusto o non piuttosto saranno i vostri modi che non son giusti?
26 When the upright abandons uprightness and does wrong and dies, he dies because of the wrongwhich he himself has done.	26 Ogni qual volta il giusto avrà traviato dalla sua giustizia e avrà commesso cose inique, in quelle morrà, nell'ingiustizia che ha operato morirà.
27 Similarly, when the wicked abandons wickedness to become law-abiding and upright, he saves hisown life.	27 E ogni qual volta l'empio si sarà ritratto dall'empietà che aveva commesso e compirà i suoi doveri e la giustizia, farà vivere l'anima sua.
28 Having chosen to renounce al his previous crimes, he wil most certainly live: he wil not die.	28 Coll'aver riflettuto ed essersi ritratto da tutte le iniquità che aveva operato, vivrà e non morrà.
29 And yet the House of Israel says, "What the Lord does is unjust." Is what I do unjust, House of Israel?Is it not what you do that is unjust?	29 Ma i figli d'Israele dicono: - La maniera di procedere del Signore non è giusta. - Come! le mie maniere non sono giuste, o casa di Israele, o non sarebbero le vostre piuttosto che non sono giuste?
30 So in future, House of Israel, I shal judge each of you by what that person does -- declares the LordYahweh. Repent, renounce al your crimes, avoid al occasions for guilt.	30 Sicuro, io vi giudicherò uno per uno secondo le vostre azioni, o casa d'Israele, dice il Signore Dio. Convertitevi e fate penitenza di tutte le vostre iniquità e l'iniquità non sarà a vostra ruina.
31 Shake off all the crimes you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit!Why die, House of Israel?	31 Rigettate da voi tutte le prevaricazioni vostre nelle quali avete traviato e formatevi un cuor nuovo e uno spirito nuovo; perchè dovreste perire, o casa d'Israele?
32 I take no pleasure in the death of anyone -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- so repent and live!'	32 Io non ho piacere di veder perire uno, dice il Signore Dio, ritornate indietro e vivrete.
