Ezekiel 18

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,	1 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:
2 'Why do you keep repeating this proverb in the land of Israel: The parents have eaten unripe grapes;and the children's teeth are set on edge?	2 «Perché andate ripetendo questo proverbio sulla terra d’Israele: “I padri hanno mangiato uva acerba e i denti dei figli si sono allegati”?
3 'As I live -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- you wil have no further cause to repeat this proverb in Israel.	3 Com’è vero che io vivo, oracolo del Signore Dio, voi non ripeterete più questo proverbio in Israele.
4 Look, al life belongs to me; the father's life and the son's life, both alike belong to me. The one whohas sinned is the one to die.	4 Ecco, tutte le vite sono mie: la vita del padre e quella del figlio è mia; chi pecca morirà.
5 'But if a man is upright, his actions law-abiding and upright,	5 Se uno è giusto e osserva il diritto e la giustizia,
6 and he does not eat on the mountains or raise his eyes to the foul idols of the House of Israel, doesnot defile his neighbour's wife or touch a woman during her periods,	6 se non mangia sui monti e non alza gli occhi agli idoli della casa d’Israele, se non disonora la moglie del suo prossimo e non si accosta a una donna durante il suo stato d’impurità,
7 oppresses no one, returns the pledge on a debt, does not rob, gives his own food to the hungry, hisclothes to those who lack clothing,	7 se non opprime alcuno, restituisce il pegno al debitore, non commette rapina, divide il pane con l’affamato e copre di vesti chi è nudo,
8 does not lend for profit, does not charge interest, abstains from evil, gives honest judgement betweenone person and another,	8 se non presta a usura e non esige interesse, desiste dall’iniquità e pronuncia retto giudizio fra un uomo e un altro,
9 keeps my laws and sincerely respects my judgements -- someone like this is truly upright and will live-- declares the Lord Yahweh.	9 se segue le mie leggi e osserva le mie norme agendo con fedeltà, egli è giusto ed egli vivrà, oracolo del Signore Dio.
10 'But if he has a son prone to violence and bloodshed, who commits one of these misdeeds-	10 Ma se uno ha generato un figlio violento e sanguinario che commette azioni inique,
11 even though the father never has -- a son who dares to eat on the mountains, who defiles hisneighbour's wife,	11 mentre egli non le commette, e questo figlio mangia sui monti, disonora la donna del prossimo,
12 who oppresses the poor and needy, robs, fails to return pledges, raises his eyes to foul idols,engages in loathsome practices,	12 opprime il povero e l’indigente, commette rapine, non restituisce il pegno, volge gli occhi agli idoli, compie azioni abominevoli,
13 lends for profit, or charges interest, such a person will by no means live; having committed al theseappal ing crimes he wil die, and his blood be on his own head.	13 presta a usura ed esige gli interessi, questo figlio non vivrà; poiché ha commesso azioni abominevoli, costui morirà e dovrà a se stesso la propria morte.
14 'But if he in turn has a son who, in spite of seeing al the sins that his father has committed, does notimitate him,	14 Ma se uno ha generato un figlio che, vedendo tutti i peccati commessi dal padre, sebbene li veda, non li commette,
15 does not eat on the mountains or raise his eyes to the foul idols of the House of Israel, does notdefile his neighbour's wife,	15 non mangia sui monti, non volge gli occhi agli idoli d’Israele, non disonora la donna del prossimo,
16 oppresses no one, takes no pledges, does not rob, gives his own food to the hungry, his clothes tothose who lack clothing,	16 non opprime alcuno, non trattiene il pegno, non commette rapina, dà il pane all’affamato e copre di vesti chi è nudo,
17 abstains from evil, does not lend for profit or charge interest, respects my judgements and keeps mylaws, he will not die for his father's sins: he wil most certainly live.	17 desiste dall’iniquità, non presta a usura né a interesse, osserva le mie norme, cammina secondo le mie leggi, costui non morirà per l’iniquità di suo padre, ma certo vivrà.
18 But his father, because he was violent, robbed others and never did good among his people, willmost certainly die in his guilt.	18 Suo padre invece, che ha oppresso e derubato il suo prossimo, che non ha agito bene in mezzo al popolo, morirà per la sua iniquità.
19 'Now, you say, "Why doesn't the son bear his father's guilt?" If the son has been law-abiding andupright, has kept al my laws and fol owed them, most certainly he wil live.	19 Voi dite: “Perché il figlio non sconta l’iniquità del padre?”. Perché il figlio ha agito secondo giustizia e rettitudine, ha osservato tutte le mie leggi e le ha messe in pratica: perciò egli vivrà.
20 The one who has sinned is the one who must die; a son is not to bear his father's guilt, nor a fatherhis son's guilt. The upright wil be credited with his uprightness, and the wicked with his wickedness.	20 Chi pecca morirà; il figlio non sconterà l’iniquità del padre, né il padre l’iniquità del figlio. Sul giusto rimarrà la sua giustizia e sul malvagio la sua malvagità.
21 'If the wicked, however, renounces al the sins he has committed, respects my laws and is law-abiding and upright, he wil most certainly live; he will not die.	21 Ma se il malvagio si allontana da tutti i peccati che ha commesso e osserva tutte le mie leggi e agisce con giustizia e rettitudine, egli vivrà, non morirà.
22 None of the crimes he committed wil be remembered against him from then on; he wil most certainlylive because of his upright actions.	22 Nessuna delle colpe commesse sarà più ricordata, ma vivrà per la giustizia che ha praticato.
23 Would I take pleasure in the death of the wicked -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- and not prefer to seehim renounce his wickedness and live?	23 Forse che io ho piacere della morte del malvagio – oracolo del Signore – o non piuttosto che desista dalla sua condotta e viva?
24 'But if the upright abandons uprightness and does wrong by copying all the loathsome practices ofthe wicked, is he to live? Al his upright actions will be forgotten from then on; for the infidelity of which he isguilty and the sin which he has committed, he wil most certainly die.	24 Ma se il giusto si allontana dalla giustizia e commette il male, imitando tutte le azioni abominevoli che l’empio commette, potrà egli vivere? Tutte le opere giuste da lui fatte saranno dimenticate; a causa della prevaricazione in cui è caduto e del peccato che ha commesso, egli morirà.
25 'Now, you say, "What the Lord does is unjust." Now listen, House of Israel: is what I do unjust? Is itnot what you do that is unjust?	25 Voi dite: “Non è retto il modo di agire del Signore”. Ascolta dunque, casa d’Israele: Non è retta la mia condotta o piuttosto non è retta la vostra?
26 When the upright abandons uprightness and does wrong and dies, he dies because of the wrongwhich he himself has done.	26 Se il giusto si allontana dalla giustizia e commette il male e a causa di questo muore, egli muore appunto per il male che ha commesso.
27 Similarly, when the wicked abandons wickedness to become law-abiding and upright, he saves hisown life.	27 E se il malvagio si converte dalla sua malvagità che ha commesso e compie ciò che è retto e giusto, egli fa vivere se stesso.
28 Having chosen to renounce al his previous crimes, he wil most certainly live: he wil not die.	28 Ha riflettuto, si è allontanato da tutte le colpe commesse: egli certo vivrà e non morirà.
29 And yet the House of Israel says, "What the Lord does is unjust." Is what I do unjust, House of Israel?Is it not what you do that is unjust?	29 Eppure la casa d’Israele va dicendo: “Non è retta la via del Signore”. O casa d’Israele, non sono rette le mie vie o piuttosto non sono rette le vostre?
30 So in future, House of Israel, I shal judge each of you by what that person does -- declares the LordYahweh. Repent, renounce al your crimes, avoid al occasions for guilt.	30 Perciò io giudicherò ognuno di voi secondo la sua condotta, o casa d’Israele. Oracolo del Signore Dio. Convertitevi e desistete da tutte le vostre iniquità, e l’iniquità non sarà più causa della vostra rovina.
31 Shake off all the crimes you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit!Why die, House of Israel?	31 Liberatevi da tutte le iniquità commesse e formatevi un cuore nuovo e uno spirito nuovo. Perché volete morire, o casa d’Israele?
32 I take no pleasure in the death of anyone -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- so repent and live!'	32 Io non godo della morte di chi muore. Oracolo del Signore Dio. Convertitevi e vivrete.
