NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 How the gold has tarnished, how the fine gold has changed! The sacred stones lie scattered at thecorner of every street.	1 Alef. Como escureceu o ouro, como se alterou o ouro fino! Foram dispersadas as pedras sagradas por todos os cantos da rua?
2 The children of Zion, as precious as finest gold -- to think that they should now be reckoned likecrockery made by a potter!	2 Bet. Os nobres filhos de Sião, tão estimados quanto o ouro fino, ei-los contados como vasos, obra de um oleiro!
3 The very jackals give the breast, and suckle their young: but the daughter of my people is as cruel asthe ostriches of the desert.	3 Guimel. Mesmo chacais dão a mama a fim de aleitar suas crias; mas a filha do meu povo é cruel, qual avestruz do deserto.
4 The tongue of the baby at the breast sticks to its palate for thirst; little children ask for bread, no onegives them any.	4 Dalet. A língua dos bebês, de tanta sede, se lhes prega ao palato! As crianças reclamam pão. E ninguém lho dá.
5 Those who used to eat only the best, now lie dying in the streets; those who were reared in the purpleclaw at the rubbish heaps,	5 He. Aqueles que em comidas finas se compraziam definham pelas ruas. E os que foram educados no fausto têm por leito o esterco.
6 for the wickedness of the daughter of my people exceeded the sins of Sodom, which was overthrown ina moment without a hand being laid on it.	6 Vau. O castigo da filha do meu povo é maior que o pecado de Sodoma, num momento destruída sem que ninguém lhe lançasse a mão.
7 Once her young people were brighter than snow, whiter than milk; rosier than coral their bodies, theirhue like sapphire.	7 Zain. Os príncipes brilhavam mais que a neve, mais brancos do que o leite. Seus corpos eram mais vermelhos que o coral, e era de safira o seu aspecto.
8 Now their faces are blacker than soot, they are not recognised in the streets, the skin has shrunk overtheir bones, as dry as a stick.	8 Het. Agora, seus rostos ficaram mais sombrios do que a fuligem; pelas ruas, são irreconhecíveis. A pele se lhes colou aos ossos, e qual madeira ressecou-se.
9 Happier those killed by the sword than those kil ed by famine: they waste away, sunken for lack of thefruits of the earth.	9 Tet. As vítimas do gládio são mais felizes do que as da fome, que lentamente se esgotam pela falta dos produtos da terra.
10 With their own hands, kindly women cooked their children; this was their food when the daughter ofmy people was ruined.	10 Iod. Mãos de mulheres, cheias de ternura, cozinharam os filhos, a fim de servirem de alimento, quando da ruína da filha de meu povo.
11 Yahweh indulged his fury, he vented his fierce anger, he lit a fire in Zion which devoured herfoundations.	11 Caf. O Senhor saciou o seu furor, e derramou o ardor de sua cólera, acendendo um fogo em Sião que a devorou até os alicerces.
12 The kings of the earth never believed, nor did any of the inhabitants of the world, that foe or enemywould ever penetrate the gates of Jerusalem.	12 Lamed. Não podiam acreditar os reis da terra, e todos os habitantes do mundo, que o inimigo opressor transporia as portas de Jerusalém.
13 Owing to the sins of her prophets and the crimes of her priests, who had shed the blood of the upright,in the heart of the city,	13 Mem. Foi por causa dos pecados de seus profetas e das iniqüidades dos sacerdotes, que derramavam em seus muros o sangue dos justos.
14 they wandered blindly through the streets, polluted with blood, so that no one dared to touch theirclothes.	14 Nun. Quais cegos erravam pelas ruas, vertendo sangue a tal ponto que ninguém ousava tocar em suas vestes.
15 'Keep away! Unclean!' people shouted, 'Keep away! Keep away! Don't touch!' If they left and fled tothe nations, they were not al owed to stay there either.	15 Samec. Para trás! É um impuro! - lhes gritavam. Para trás! Para trás! Não toqueis! E quando fugiam, errantes entre os pagãos, todos diziam: Aqui não ficarão.
16 The face of Yahweh destroyed them, he wil look on them no more. There was no respect for thepriests, no deference for the elders.	16 Pe. A face do Senhor dispersou-os e para eles não olha mais: nenhuma deferência aos sacerdotes, nem piedade com os anciãos.
17 Continual y we were wearing out our eyes, watching for help -- in vain. From our towers we watchedfor a nation which could not save us anyway.	17 Ain. Nossos olhos se consumiam, na esperança de um vão socorro. Espreitávamos do alto das torres a vinda de um povo incapaz de nos livrar.
18 Men dogged our steps, to keep us out of our streets. Our end was near, our days were done, our endhad come.	18 Sade. Espreitavam os nossos passos; nem mais podíamos andar pela rua. Nosso fim se aproxima. Terminam nossos dias. Sim! Chegou o nosso termo.
19 Our pursuers were swifter than eagles in the sky; they hounded our steps through the mountains, theylay in ambush for us in the wilds.	19 Cof. Os que nos perseguiam eram mais velozes que as águias do céu. Seguiram-nos pelos montes e nos armaram ciladas no deserto.
20 The breath of our nostrils, Yahweh's anointed, was caught in their traps, he of whom we said, 'In hisshadow we shall live among the nations.'	20 Res. O sopro de nossa vida o ungido do Senhor, caiu em suas ciladas. De quem dizíamos: À sua sombra viveremos entre as nações.
21 Rejoice, exult, daughter of Edom, you who reside in Uz! To you in turn the cup wil pass; you wil getdrunk and strip yourself naked!	21 Sin. Exulta, alegra-te, filha de Edom, habitante da terra de Hus! A ti também será passado o cálice, e embriagada descobrirás tua nudez.
22 Your wickedness is atoned for, daughter of Zion, he will never banish you again. But your wickedness,daughter of Edom, wil he punish, your sins he will lay bare!	22 Tau. Findou teu castigo, filha de Sião {Deus} não mais te exilará. É a teus crimes que ele vai castigar, filha de Edom, e descobrir os teus pecados.
