NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 How the gold has tarnished, how the fine gold has changed! The sacred stones lie scattered at thecorner of every street.	1 [Alef] ¡Cómo se ha oscurecido el oro, se ha empañado el oro más puro! Las piedras sagradas están tiradas en todas las esquinas.
2 The children of Zion, as precious as finest gold -- to think that they should now be reckoned likecrockery made by a potter!	2 [Bet] Los hijos de Sión, tan preciados, valuados a precio de oro fino, ¡cómo son tenidos por vasos de arcilla, obra de las manos de un alfarero!
3 The very jackals give the breast, and suckle their young: but the daughter of my people is as cruel asthe ostriches of the desert.	3 [Guímel] Hasta los chacales presentan las ubres para amamantar a sus cachorros; pero la hija de mi pueblo se ha vuelto cruel como los avestruces del desierto.
4 The tongue of the baby at the breast sticks to its palate for thirst; little children ask for bread, no onegives them any.	4 [Dálet] La lengua de las criaturas se pega al paladar a causa de la sed; los niños pequeños piden pan, y nadie se lo reparte.
5 Those who used to eat only the best, now lie dying in the streets; those who were reared in the purpleclaw at the rubbish heaps,	5 [He] Los que comían manjares exquisitos desfallecen por las calles; los que se habían criado entre púrpura se abrazan a los residuos.
6 for the wickedness of the daughter of my people exceeded the sins of Sodom, which was overthrown ina moment without a hand being laid on it.	6 [Vau] La iniquidad de la hija de mi pueblo ha superado el pecado de Sodoma, que fue destruida en un instante sin que se moviera una mano contra ella.
7 Once her young people were brighter than snow, whiter than milk; rosier than coral their bodies, theirhue like sapphire.	7 [Zain] Sus jóvenes eran más puros que la nieve, más blancos que la leche; sus cuerpos, más rojizos que el coral, su figura, un zafiro.
8 Now their faces are blacker than soot, they are not recognised in the streets, the skin has shrunk overtheir bones, as dry as a stick.	8 [Jet] Su semblante se ha vuelto más oscuro que el hollín, no se los reconoce por las calles; tienen la piel pegada a los huesos, reseca como madera.
9 Happier those killed by the sword than those kil ed by famine: they waste away, sunken for lack of thefruits of the earth.	9 [Tet] Fueron más dichosos los muertos por la espada, que los muertos por el hambre: aquellos se desangraron, traspasados; estos, por falta de frutos en los campos.
10 With their own hands, kindly women cooked their children; this was their food when the daughter ofmy people was ruined.	10 [Iod] Las mismas manos de tiernas mujeres cocinaron a sus hijos: ellos les sirvieron de alimento en el desastre de la hija de mi pueblo.
11 Yahweh indulged his fury, he vented his fierce anger, he lit a fire in Zion which devoured herfoundations.	11 [Caf] El Señor desahogó su furor, derramó el ardor de su ira; encendió un fuego en Sión que devoró hasta sus cimientos.
12 The kings of the earth never believed, nor did any of the inhabitants of the world, that foe or enemywould ever penetrate the gates of Jerusalem.	12 [Lámed] Nunca hubieran creído los reyes de la tierra ni todos los habitantes del mundo, que entrarían el adversario y el enemigo por las puertas de Jerusalén.
13 Owing to the sins of her prophets and the crimes of her priests, who had shed the blood of the upright,in the heart of the city,	13 [Mem] Esto sucedió por los pecados de sus profetas, por las iniquidades de sus sacerdotes, que derramaron en medio de ella la sangre de los justos.
14 they wandered blindly through the streets, polluted with blood, so that no one dared to touch theirclothes.	14 [Nun] Vagaban como ciegos por las calles, manchados de sangre, de manera que no se podía tocar sus vestiduras.
15 'Keep away! Unclean!' people shouted, 'Keep away! Keep away! Don't touch!' If they left and fled tothe nations, they were not al owed to stay there either.	15 [Sámec] «¡Apártense! ¡Un impuro! –les gritaban– ¡Apártense, apártense! ¡No toquen!». Si huían y vagaban entre las naciones, se decía: «¡No pueden quedarse más aquí!».
16 The face of Yahweh destroyed them, he wil look on them no more. There was no respect for thepriests, no deference for the elders.	16 [Pe] El rostro del Señor los dispersó, no volverá a mirarlos. Ya no se respeta a los sacerdotes ni se tiene piedad de los ancianos.
17 Continual y we were wearing out our eyes, watching for help -- in vain. From our towers we watchedfor a nation which could not save us anyway.	17 [Ain] Aún se consumían nuestros ojos, aguardando en vano una ayuda; en nuestros puestos de guardia, mirábamos hacia una nación que no puede salvar.
18 Men dogged our steps, to keep us out of our streets. Our end was near, our days were done, our endhad come.	18 [Sade] Se acechaban nuestros pasos, no podíamos andar por las calles. Se acercaba nuestro fin, se habían cumplido nuestros días: ¡sí, había llegado nuestro fin!
19 Our pursuers were swifter than eagles in the sky; they hounded our steps through the mountains, theylay in ambush for us in the wilds.	19 [Qof] Nuestros perseguidores eran más veloces que las águilas del cielo: nos hostigaban en las montañas, nos tendían emboscadas en el desierto.
20 The breath of our nostrils, Yahweh's anointed, was caught in their traps, he of whom we said, 'In hisshadow we shall live among the nations.'	20 [Res] El Ungido del Señor, nuestro aliento vital, quedó atrapado en sus fosas: aquel de quien decíamos: «¡A su sombra viviremos entre las naciones!».
21 Rejoice, exult, daughter of Edom, you who reside in Uz! To you in turn the cup wil pass; you wil getdrunk and strip yourself naked!	21 [Sin] ¡Regocíjate y alégrate, hija de Edom, tú que habitas en el país de Us! También tú recibirás la copa: te embriagarás y te desnudarás.
22 Your wickedness is atoned for, daughter of Zion, he will never banish you again. But your wickedness,daughter of Edom, wil he punish, your sins he will lay bare!	22 [Tau] Tu iniquidad se ha borrado, hija de Sión: ¡él no volverá a desterrarte! El castigará tu culpa, hija de Edom, ¡pondrá al descubierto tus pecados!
