NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 How the gold has tarnished, how the fine gold has changed! The sacred stones lie scattered at thecorner of every street.	1 Come mai s'è annerito l'oro, s'è offuscato l'oro più puro, disperse le pietre sacre all'imbocco di tutte le strade?
2 The children of Zion, as precious as finest gold -- to think that they should now be reckoned likecrockery made by a potter!	2 I figli di Sion, i preziosi, i valutati a prezzo d'oro fino, come mai sono stimati vasi d'argilla, lavoro di mani di vasaio?
3 The very jackals give the breast, and suckle their young: but the daughter of my people is as cruel asthe ostriches of the desert.	3 Pure gli sciacalli porgono la mammella e allattano i loro piccoli; la figlia del mio popolo s'è fatta crudele come gli struzzi nel deserto!
4 The tongue of the baby at the breast sticks to its palate for thirst; little children ask for bread, no onegives them any.	4 S'è incollata la lingua del lattante al suo palato per la sete; i bambini domandavano pane e non v'era chi lo spezzasse loro.
5 Those who used to eat only the best, now lie dying in the streets; those who were reared in the purpleclaw at the rubbish heaps,	5 Quelli che mangiavano cibi deliziosi languivano per le strade; quelli ch'erano allevati sulla porpora abbracciavano letame!
6 for the wickedness of the daughter of my people exceeded the sins of Sodom, which was overthrown ina moment without a hand being laid on it.	6 Oh, fu grande la colpa della figlia del mio popolo, più del peccato di Sodoma, che fu sconvolta in un momento senza che mani le si avventassero contro!
7 Once her young people were brighter than snow, whiter than milk; rosier than coral their bodies, theirhue like sapphire.	7 I suoi giovani erano più puri della neve, erano più candidi del latte, più rossa dei coralli la loro carne, la loro figura era zaffiro.
8 Now their faces are blacker than soot, they are not recognised in the streets, the skin has shrunk overtheir bones, as dry as a stick.	8 S'è oscurato più della notte il loro aspetto, non si riconoscono più nelle strade; s'è aggrinzita la loro pelle sulle loro ossa, è diventata secca come legno.
9 Happier those killed by the sword than those kil ed by famine: they waste away, sunken for lack of thefruits of the earth.	9 Più fortunati sono gli uccisi di spada che i martiri per la fame, che svenivano, estenuati, per mancanza di frutti del campo.
10 With their own hands, kindly women cooked their children; this was their food when the daughter ofmy people was ruined.	10 Mani di donne pur tenerissime hanno cotto i loro nati, fàttisi cibo per loro nella rovina della figlia del mio popolo.
11 Yahweh indulged his fury, he vented his fierce anger, he lit a fire in Zion which devoured herfoundations.	11 Ha sfogato il Signore il suo furore, versato l'ardore della sua ira; ha acceso un fuoco contro Sion, che ha divorato le sue fondamenta.
12 The kings of the earth never believed, nor did any of the inhabitants of the world, that foe or enemywould ever penetrate the gates of Jerusalem.	12 Non credevano i re della terra e tutti gli abitanti del mondo che sarebbero entrati avversario e nemico per le porte di Gerusalemme.
13 Owing to the sins of her prophets and the crimes of her priests, who had shed the blood of the upright,in the heart of the city,	13 E' stato per i peccati dei suoi profeti e per le iniquità dei suoi sacerdoti, che avevano versato in mezzo ad essa il sangue dei giusti.
14 they wandered blindly through the streets, polluted with blood, so that no one dared to touch theirclothes.	14 Barcollavano come ciechi per le strade sporchi di sangue; no, non si poteva neppure toccare le loro vesti.
15 'Keep away! Unclean!' people shouted, 'Keep away! Keep away! Don't touch!' If they left and fled tothe nations, they were not al owed to stay there either.	15 "Scostatevi! Immondi!" si gridava loro: "Scostatevi, scostatevi! Non toccate!". Fuggivano e andavano errando fra le genti, senza tenere fissa dimora.
16 The face of Yahweh destroyed them, he wil look on them no more. There was no respect for thepriests, no deference for the elders.	16 Il volto del Signore li ha dispersi, non continuerà più a guardarli! Non si è avuto riguardo per i sacerdoti, non si è avuto pietà degli anziani.
17 Continual y we were wearing out our eyes, watching for help -- in vain. From our towers we watchedfor a nation which could not save us anyway.	17 Si consumavano i nostri occhi nell'attesa di un vano soccorso. Dalle nostre vedette scrutavamo una gente che non può salvare.
18 Men dogged our steps, to keep us out of our streets. Our end was near, our days were done, our endhad come.	18 Osservavano i nostri passi, perché non ci recassimo sulle nostre piazze; prossima è la nostra fine, compiuti i nostri giorni, sì, è giunta la nostra fine.
19 Our pursuers were swifter than eagles in the sky; they hounded our steps through the mountains, theylay in ambush for us in the wilds.	19 Più veloci sono stati i nostri persecutori che le aquile del cielo; ci hanno inseguito sui monti e teso inganni nel deserto.
20 The breath of our nostrils, Yahweh's anointed, was caught in their traps, he of whom we said, 'In hisshadow we shall live among the nations.'	20 Il soffio delle nostre narici, l'Unto del Signore, è stato catturato nelle loro fosse, lui del quale dicevamo: "Alla sua ombra noi vivremo fra le genti".
21 Rejoice, exult, daughter of Edom, you who reside in Uz! To you in turn the cup wil pass; you wil getdrunk and strip yourself naked!	21 Rallégrati ed esulta, figlia di Edom, tu che siedi nella terra di Uz! Anche a te passerà il calice: ti ubriacherai e ti denuderai!
22 Your wickedness is atoned for, daughter of Zion, he will never banish you again. But your wickedness,daughter of Edom, wil he punish, your sins he will lay bare!	22 E' stata espiata la tua colpa, figlia di Sion: non continuerà più a mandarti in esilio; ha visitato la tua iniquità, o figlia di Edom: ha svelato i tuoi peccati!
