Jeremiah 11

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh,	1 Parola che fu rivolta dal Signore a Geremia in questi termini:
2 'Hear the terms of this covenant; tel them to the people of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	2 « Ascoltate le parole di questa alleanza, e ditele agli uomini di Giuda e agli abitanti di Gerusalemme.
3 Tel them, "Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Cursed be anyone who will not listen to the terms of thiscovenant	3 E tu dirai loro: Così parla il Signore Dio d'Israele: Maledetto l'uomo che non ascolterà le parole di questa alleanza,
4 which I ordained for your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt, out of that iron-foundry. Listen tomy voice, I told them, carry out al my orders, then you wil be my people and I shal be your God,	4 che io imposi ai vostri padri nel giorno in cui li trassi dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla fornace di ferro, dicendo: Ascoltate la mia voce e fate tutte le cose che io vi comando, e voi sarete il mio popolo, ed io sarò il vostro Dio.
5 so that I may fulfil the oath I swore to your ancestors, that I may give them a country flowing with milkand honey, as is the case today." ' I replied, 'So be it, Yahweh!'	5 Così farò rivivere il giuramento da me fatto ai vostri padri, di dar loro una terra ove scorre latte e miele com'è di fatto al presente ». E io risposi e dissi: « Così sia, Signore! ».
6 Then Yahweh said to me, 'Proclaim al these terms in the towns of Judah and in the streets ofJerusalem, saying, "Listen to the terms of this covenant and obey them.	6 E il Signore mi disse: « Grida tutte queste parole per le città di Giuda e per le piazze di Gerusalemme, dicendo: — Ascoltate le parole di quest'alleanza e mettetele in pratica.
7 For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt, I solemnly warned them, and have persistently warnedthem until today, saying: Listen to my voice.	7 Perchè io con tutte le forze ho esortati i vostri padri dal giorno in cui li trassi dalla terra d'Egitto fino ad oggi, con ogni premura li ho esortati, dicendo: — Ascoltate la mia voce. —
8 But they did not listen, did not pay attention; instead, each followed his own stubborn and wickedinclinations. And against them, in consequence, I put into action the words of this covenant which I had orderedthem to obey and which they had not obeyed." '	8 E non diedero ascolto, non posero il loro orecchio, ma ciascuno d'essi andò dietro alla perversità del suo cattivo cuore, ed io mandai sopra di loro tutto ciò che è scritto in questa alleanza, che ordinai loro di osservare, e non osservarono ».
9 Yahweh said to me, 'Plainly there is conspiracy among the people of Judah and the citizens ofJerusalem.	9 E il Signore mi disse: « S'è scoperta una congiura tra gli uomini di Giuda e tra gli uomini di Gerusalemme:
10 They have reverted to the sins of their ancestors who refused to listen to my words: they too arefol owing other gods and serving them. The House of Israel and the House of Judah have broken my covenantwhich I made with their ancestors.	10 essi son tornati alle antiche iniquità dei loro padri, che non vollero dar retta alle mie parole. Ed anche questi sono andati dietro a dèi stranieri per adorarli. La casa d'Israele e la casa di Giuda han violata la mia alleanza da me contratta coi loro padri.
11 And so, Yahweh says this, "I shal now bring a disaster on them which they cannot escape; they willcal to me for help, but I shal not listen to them.	11 Per questo, così dice il Signore: Ecco io manderò sopra di loro dei mali da cui non potranno uscire: essi grideranno verso di me, ma io non li esaudirò.
12 The towns of Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem wil then go and cal for help to the gods to whomthey burn incense, but these will be no help at al to them in their time of distress!	12 E le città di Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme andranno a gridare agli dèi ai quali fanno libazioni, ma essi non li potran salvare nel tempo della loro afflizione.
13 "For you have as many gods as you have towns, Judah! You have built as many altars to Shame, asmany incense altars to Baal, as Jerusalem has streets!	13 Numerosi come le tue città sono i tuoi dèi, o Giuda, e secondo il numero delle vie di Gerusalemme alzasti gli altari dell'infamia, gli altari per le libazioni a Baal.
14 "You, for your part, must not intercede for this people, nor raise either plea or prayer on their behalf, for I wil not listen when their distress forces them to cal to me for help."	14 Tu dunque non intercedere in favore di questo popolo, non inalzare per essi nè gridi, nè preghiere, perchè io non starò a sentire quando grideranno verso di me, nel tempo della loro afflizione.
15 'What is my beloved doing in my house? She has achieved her wicked plans. Can vows andconsecrated meat turn disaster from you for you to be so happy?	15 Come mai il mio diletto ha commesse nella mia casa molte scelleratezze? Forse le carni sante potran toglierti le tue malvagità delle quali ti sei gloriata?
16 "Green olive-tree covered in fine fruit", was Yahweh's name for you. With a shattering noise he hasset fire to it, its branches are broken.'	16 Olivo fecondo, bello, fruttifero, di vago aspetto, ecco il nome che t'aveva dato il Signore: al suon d'una parola vi divampò un gran fuoco, e ne furon bruciati i rami.
17 And Yahweh Sabaoth, who planted you, has decreed disaster for you because of the evil the Houseof Israel and the House of Judah have done, provoking me by burning incense to Baal.	17 Il Signore degli eserciti che ti piantò ha decretato contro di te delle sventure a causa dei mali che la casa d'Israele e la casa di Giuda fecero a se stesse, per irritarmi, col far libazioni a Baal.
18 Yahweh informed me and I knew it; you then revealed their scheming to me.	18 Tu, o Signore, me lo facesti conoscere, ed io compresi, allora mi facesti vedere le loro intenzioni.
19 I for my part was like a trustful lamb being led to the slaughterhouse, not knowing the schemes theywere plotting against me, 'Let us destroy the tree in its strength, let us cut him off from the land of the living, sothat his name may no longer be remembered!'	19 Io, come agnello mansueto che è portato ad essere sacrificato, non aveva compreso che essi facevano dei cattivi disegni contro di me, dicendo: « Diamogli del legno invece di pane, facciamolo sparire dalla terra dei viventi, chè non si rammenti più il suo nome! »
20 Yahweh Sabaoth, whose judgement is upright, tester of motives and thoughts, I shal see yourvengeance on them, for I have revealed my cause to you.	20 Ma tu, o Signore degli eserciti, che giudichi con giustizia, e scruti gli affetti e i cuori, fammi vedere la tua vendetta contro di essi; perchè è a te che ho affidata la mia causa.
21 Against the people of Anathoth who are determined to kil me and say to me, 'Do not prophesy in thename of Yahweh or you will die at our hands!'	21 Per questo, così parla il Signore riguardo agli uomini di Anatot, che tendono insidie alla tua vita, e dicono: — Non profetare nel nome del Signore e non morrai di nostra mano. —
22 Yahweh says this, 'I am about to punish them. Their young people will die by the sword, their sonsand daughters by famine.	22 Perciò, così parla il Signore degli eserciti: « Ecco io li punirò: i giovani morranno di spada, i loro figli e le loro figlie morranno di fame.
23 Not one wil be left when I bring disaster on the people of Anathoth, when the year for punishing themcomes.'	23 E di essi non resterà nessuno: manderò la sventura sopra gli uomini di Anatot, l'anno del loro castigo ».
